Canarians will tell you they have the best climate in the world and it’s hard to disagree: the temperature average is 23ºc year-round, and the archipelago enjoys the most hours of sunshine per year in Europe. If you’re craving nature, you won’t be disappointed: expect sea views, natural parks and spectacular beaches where you can take relaxing post-work strolls or hone your surfing skills. For active visitors, there’s a great culture of hiking, cycling, running and climbing.

Tenerife

The largest island, Tenerife is fantastic for outdoor activities from beach trips and watersports on the Atlantic beaches, to breathtaking hikes and trails in the mountains, including Teide, the third highest volcano in the world. On top of this, there’s a growing international community of remote workers and a lively social scene with plenty of food and drink options, festivals and art venues.

Gran Canaria

This island is known as the ‘mini continent’ thanks to its fabulous geographical contrasts, from sand dunes to beautiful pine forest and dramatic cliffs and ravines. As well as spellbinding nature, there’s also plenty on offer for culture-lovers too, from the buzzy larger towns on the coast, like Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to tranquil fishing villages that model a slower way of living.

Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura’s kilometer-long beaches with turquoise waters and white sand are known as some of the best in Europe. This island is a paradise for lovers of water sports like surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. There has been a big push to create remote-work-friendly spaces and you’ll find plenty in particular in the northern part, with a cluster of co-working spaces in La Oliva.
