The Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site is well worth exploring locally and the Peak District is an easy drive away.
  • Jennie’s annexe was absolutely wonderful with outstanding hospitality right from the start. The communication from Jennie was excellent, and she was so welcoming when we arrived. The annexe is absolutely amazing - so clean, warm and deceptively spacious! The thoughtful touches didn’t go unnoticed, and the breakfast was a wonderful extra which started our days off brilliantly. I will definitely be returning in the future, as the location was ideal. I would highly recommend.

  • Staying at the Annexe was a treat from the moment we arrived. Jennie was a wonderful host who really had gone the extra mile. The place was well presented, clean and had all the facilities one would need. A bottle of wine was left for us in the fridge alongside some breakfast items which we were very grateful for. We were in town for a wedding and it met our expecatations and more. We would definitely consider staying here again.

A delightful grade II listed cottage situated on the A6 in the village of Milford. The cottage is perfect for a get-away, The village has good pubs and restaurants and is only a short drive in to the Town of Belper and Derby City or why not make use of the fantastic public transport links to explore the Peak District.
Our Cottage is Grade II listed and retains many of the original features but also has the benefit of modern comfy furniture and smart TV and WiF.
With-in the Neighbourhood there a 2 good pubs the King William in Milford and the famous Holly Bush just 10 mins walk away in Makeney. There is also a 2 restaurants The New Inn serving traditional pub food and some more A-Le-Cart style dishes and the SOI on the wirer an International buffet style restaurant. There are plenty of walks through the countryside to explore.
  • Beautifully decorated house but great shame that the wood burning stove does not work. The extremely low door frames and stairs caused considerable inconvenience and we were unaware of this as there was no mention of them in the description. Lots of road noise and the bus stop directly outside the house were a disappointment and inconvenience. The bathroom leaks into the kitchen.

    Christophe2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage which would suit one or two people visiting this area. A local bus service stops outside and there are lots of places nearby to visit- we particularly enjoyed Matlock Bath and Keddleston Hall. The cottage looked like it has been recently renovated, but retains its low doorways, beams and exposed stonework- you have to watch your head but it gives it character! We parked our car just down the road near the church, a mere couple of minutes walk away. The two charming pubs nearby were great for evening drinks and we ate at the White Hart in Duffield, which was really nice.

Chapel Mews is one half of a Grade II listed former chapel with great views over the surrounding countryside. It has a large open plan living/dining room and kitchen with antique table and comfortable sofas. 2 good sized double/twin bedrooms. Belper town centre with shops, restaurants, pubs and a cinema is within walking distance. Easy access to all areas of Derbyshire/Peaks. Very good WI-FI.
Our 2 double bedroomed, grade 2 listed former chapel makes for a lovely stay in the historic Derbyshire mill town of Belper which has great amenities and transport links to The Derbyshire Peak District. We have furnished with a mix of vintage and modern pieces and a few cosy touches to make you feel at home. The ground floor is a spacious, open plan space with tall 3m high ceilings that you might expect from an old chapel. The kitchen is very well equipped with a range cooker, microwave and dishwasher and plenty of crockery and utensils. There is also a coffee machine and we provide free tea and coffee. There are plenty of books, a few games and a smart TV to entertain you during your stay. We also have Wi-Fi with a very good signal. The open staircase that leads from the rear of the ground floor has a big window that offers great views and there is a galleried landing at the top. Upstairs the large master bedroom has a super king size bed that can be split into 2 singles (just let us know if you need it making up as single beds). The second bedroom has a comfortable standard size double bed and benefits from views over the surrounding countryside. Both bedrooms are big enough to accommodate an infants travel cot which we can provide on request. There is a double sofa bed in the living room for which we provide bed linen on request or for bookings of 5 or more. There is one family bathroom with the shower over the bath. The shower has good pressure and is on a hose so can be lowered for those who don't want to wash their hair every day! Outside, there is a small decking area at the front of the house with garden furniture so you will be able to sit outside with your morning coffee or a nice cup of tea and maybe a old beer or glass of wine in the evening. Free on-road parking is directly outside the front of the chapel and there is space for more than one vehicle within a few metres with no parking restrictions. If you travel by public transport Belper train Station and the main bus depot are less than a mile away. We send out further information on local restaurants and places of interest when your booking is confirmed and are always happy to help with any special requests. There are books and maps with plenty of Derbyshire walks in the chapel when you arrive. The Wi-Fi signal s also very good for you to research the area further.
Belper is a lovely historic Derbyshire mill town and the chapel is only a 10-15 minute (uphill) walk from the town centre which offers independent shops, restaurants, pubs and the art deco style Ritz cinema. The river gardens with play area is also popular with all ages. There are lots of places of interest and things to do locally which makes this a great base to explore Derbyshire from.

  • Lovely place very well prepared with everything needed for a nice, relaxing stay. It is in a quiet road up a hill with a lovely view and a few minutes walk away from the town centre of Belper, which is definitely worth visiting, and only a short distance drive to Peak district. Would definitely stay here again.

Though the location is a bit far from the city but we liked it and as soon as we get to the house, the driving just paid off. Thanks, Sarah :)

  • Lovely place, light, bright. Thank you

    Mary2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for our travels. It's close to the Derby train station and Belper had all the amenities we needed to make the stay comfortable. You really can't beat the view in the mornings and it makes for a great space to sit at night with a drink and talk. I liked the pull out bed just fine because I like a firmer mattress. But, others in our group found it uncomfortable even with the added mattress padding that's included in the linen closet. So just be prepared if that's going to be an issue for your group. Otherwise, very accommodating and clear instructions with good recommendations in the area.

  • Lovely space (cute beams on the ceiling, sweet wooden doors, gorgeously done kitchen and bathroom, great sense of design), convenient for Peak District walks, with nearby free car parking. Alison was quick to respond to inquiries and met me to check in. The heart of town is on your doorstep. Recommend Fresh Basil (just off the high street), Birds bakery, the two micro pubs, George's fish and chips and the Devonshire pub.

I loved the stairs being hidden behind a door, and the candles that switch on by twisting. The venue was amazing, and all the advice given by the host was perfect. Simply wonderful. 5 stars

This is a small, modern, detached house with a conservatory and small garden. It takes 10-15 mins to walk into the centre of town where there is a railway station with trains to Derby and Matlock. Buses connect to Derby, Manchester, the Peak District and Nottingham. It is a quiet residential area but the town centre has pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and local businesses. The leisure centre is 10 mins walk. The town is World Heritage listed, being famous during the Industrial Revolution.
Small comfortable modern house with pleasant garden and conservatory for relaxing in. Single bedroom with additional bed stored under when not in use. Desk and chair for work - great views over Belper to distract you though! Tea and coffee making facilities, and access to kitchen for snacks. TV and DVD player in the living room and you are welcome to join us in the evenings.
Quiet residential area with occasional traffic. Great views over the outskirts of town, and everywhere in town is hilly! 5 mins by car or 10-15 mins walk to the town (using shortcuts!). Nearby pubs and leisure centre, parks and places to walk.
  • I had a relaxing and comfortable stay at Jan and Fred’s. They were helpful and inclusive. Would highly recommend.

No18 is a unique, welcoming home-from-home nestled in the heart of historic Belper with views of Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The house is ideally situated, only five minutes from the train station and the town centre with its popular high street. No 18 has been carefully renovated, using second-hand furniture and materials wherever possible and featuring work by local artists. All items in the house are for sale, so guests can take a souvenir home with them should they wish to!
In case it's not clear from the listing, we are committed to fair pricing and we charge a fixed nightly rate, which remains the same all year round. This means there is no confusing price structure to understand and those wanting to go away during the school holidays are not unfairly penalised. We're also committed to using second hand/repaired items wherever possible. This has created what we hope is a unique, contemporary & homely environment, with a strong design element. We support local artists by featuring their work on the walls and we believe in giving things a second chance that others might throw away. For example we fitted the kitchen units with old car door handles from the 1950s and the king-size bed in the loft was made by Tony from an old pine door and some timber left over from the loft conversion.
Our neighbourhhood is called 'The Clusters' and was built by Jedidiah Strutt for workers in the historic mills that still remain in Belper and form part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. George Street is one of three streets named after the Strutt sons and still retains a strong sense of community & historic charm. Our neighbours are friendly and always take the time to say hello. We kindly ask that guests respect our neighbours and that noise is kept to an acceptable level at night.
  • Fantastic house with everything you could ever need. Fantastic hosts!

    Kristina2019-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say, I don't think I could make any suggestions to make it any better. Beautiful place, very well equipped, lovely surroundings, great hosts. I just want to come back!

  • Some friends and I stayed for a wedding at Makeney Hall Hotel. Rowen's place is incredible and they are wonderful hosts. We hope to come back and stay again so we can do some more exploring! Thanks again for a great stay!

  • This house was very clean, cosy and comfortable. We enjoyed watching films on the projector next to the log fire. The owners are very friendly and only a few doors away if you need anything. Would highly recommend this lovely place.

    Juliet2019-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Rowen & Tony’s place is a lovely, homely, stylishly decorated little gem. Within minutes walk of Belper High Street shops as well as a couple of local pubs and surrounded by the gorgeous Derbyshire countryside we had a brilliant family weekend. Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We were me met on arrival by Tony who gave us a quick tour and made sure we had everything we needed and as he only lives next door but one he was always on hand if we needed anything more. This is a lovely house and we really enjoyed our stay.

    Jennie2019-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Rowen and Tony were amazing hosts and were very accommodating in regards to our check in time and providing a cot for our 11 month old. Nice little touches like milk and eggs were provided on arrival. The house and location are perfect for groups wanting to explore the area. The projector was a great setup with a fantastic selection of dvds (if you can't find anything there's plenty of charity shops in Belper to choose one) it also means you aren't just sat in front of the TV watching rubbish. Great selection of books too. The only negative (and I am really nit picking here) is the road to the property is very rough but just drive very slowly to not damage your car. We're very grateful for everything they did for us and we had a fantastic stay. Thanks guys.

    Stuart2018-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous cottage within easy walking distance of Belper village (and Shottle Hall if you are going to an wedding there!) Wonderful boasts getting back to us promptly when we had a question. Great space inside the house with comfy beds.

Situated in the beautiful Derbyshire town of Belper this is an historic house dating from the 1750s, set in a quiet lane by the river and a short flat walk into Belper town centre where there are many pubs, restaurants and amenities. There is easy access - by car, train and bus - to the Derwent Valley UNESCO World Heritage area and the Peak District, and the local cities of Derby and Nottingham, nearby towns/villages and there are many walks from the house door into the glorious countryside.
I live in a big house full of character but with modern facilities, big rooms and lots of light. The bedroom is within the main home and uses a shared entrance. The window looks out over the tiled patio and private garden. The bedroom has a double bed, tea & coffee making facilities, a wardrobe, shelving and bedside tables. If required, there is use of a desk and chair for working and using a laptop in the sitting room, for which there is plenty of space and light. The large contemporary bathroom is next to your bedroom - it includes a fabulous big shower and large separate bath. Breakfast includes tea, coffee, cereal, toast, preserves, milk, fruit, etc. I am pleased to cater for any dietary requirements. Guests can have breakfast in the sitting room (where there is also a television) or garden. The garden is in three parts with a tiled patio (a sun trap for the evenings after a day out or a day at work), a lawned area and a gravelled area leading to the water's edge. There is a summerhouse, trees, and the garden is full of plants and flowers. The house has free off street parking. This home is suitable for the B&B-er coming for a short stay but also for business people wanting short or long term accommodation as it has very easy links north to surrounding smaller towns, and south to Derby. For regular or long term stays I am open to discuss terms and prices - please message me.
Belper is a thriving, attractive and interesting ex-mill town. Throughout the year there are many festivals, and a monthly farmer's market. The industrial heritage of the town centres around the mills and workers houses of the Strutt family who developed the first iron-framed 'fire-proof' building in the world - the North Mill, which is one of the oldest surviving examples. The River Gardens are opposite my home on the other side of the river and full of plants and colour. This is a lovely place for a quiet, flat walk. There are also free concerts here every Sunday afternoon in the band-stand during summer. There are 68 places to eat and drink in Belper! This includes many pubs and bars which also serve food, many cafes which open from breakfast to late afternoon, many restaurants, delicatessens, a Co-op grocery store, and big stores of Aldi, Morrisons and B&M. There are many shops - from charity shops and well-known high street names, to a factory outlet in an old mill, an antiques centre in another mill, to individual boutiques selling clothes and speciality food. The Ritz cinema is a privately owned cinema showing current films in cosy seating, with mugs of tea/coffee, bottles of wine and cake on offer. There are also hairdressers, pharmacies, banks. I have lived in this area on and off all my life. I know the area well and would be delighted to advise on things to do in the local area and further afield into the Peak District and Derbyshire.
  • Friendly and informal hosts. Comfortable house. Delightful sitting area by river.

    Adrian2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Just how you would expect an Airbnb / B&B to be: clean, comfortable, friendly and easy going host. The added bonus here is the location which was just out of town along a quiet lane by the river. Would certainly stay again when visiting.

  • Lovely stay, Jackie had source of local knowledge & very accommodating.

    Jane2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Jackie's beautiful home was perfect, she is a very attentive host and clearly genuinely cares about her guests, the house is gorgeous in a beautiful location. The spot at the bottom of the garden by the river is so picturesque and we spent most of the evening down there. Hugely reccomend staying here, Jackie will make you feel so at home!

''Long barn'' is a ground floor apartment, forming part of a 17th century converted barn in the courtyard of Court House Farm. Court House is situated in the centre of Chevin Golf course, affording peace and tranquillity with spectacular views. It is ideally suited to couples, golfers, families with teenage children, commuters and walkers. Long barn is quiet hideaway within walking distance of the upmarket village of Duffield. Duffield has pubs, restaurants, shops, parks and transport links.
The Long Barn, is an idyllic private rural retreat in the middle of a golf course yet close to all the amenities afforded by the upmarket country villages of Duffield and the market town of Belper.
The views, the peace ,the quiet and the privacy create a unique property.

  • Anita was one of the best hostess I have ever came across. The lodge was very lovely and exceeded all expectations, would highly recommend it . The lodge is within the beautiful setting and full of character.

  • We had the warmest welcome from Anita and loved this snug barn. It was a quiet, relaxing stay. There was a problem with the heating one day but Anita was easy to communicate with, sorted it out as quickly as she could and made sure we were comfortable. We're looking forward to staying there again.

  • My wife and I spent a couple of days staying at Alton Towers with our two young children and decided to spend a couple more days exploring the local countryside and National Trust Houses, as we are members. We are so glad we chose to stay at Long Barn, firstly Anita is an excellent host and the property is idyllic, just what you need to get away from it all in order to relax and unwind!! Secondly, the local area is stunning and there are lots of great country houses to visit. We could not have wished for a better place to stay :)

    Mark2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Anita's barn. Great base, very peaceful and lovely location. We had everything we needed for a comfy stay. Great space for our boys. Anita made our stay wonderful and answered any questions we had. Thank you. You can expect peace and quiet. Lovely village feel and beautiful walks. Wear comfy shoes.

    Natalie2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place in beautiful countryside. It's spacious (there were 3 of us), clean and has everything you need. It was so cozy for a rather rainy weekend. Anita was super friendly and easy to communicate with. I would absolutely return if I was in the area again.

Mill cottage built in 1795 in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. Pubs, restaurants, country walks and the train station within walking distance. A perfect place to have a relaxing break. Feel like you've stepped back in time. No need for a car due to its easy accessibility. Great individual shops. Easy access to Chatsworth,Matlock, Bakewell,Gullivers World and Alton Towers.
This beautiful cottage has 3 floors and really is a home from home. There are traditional fireplaces and wooden beams so you really feel like you have stepped back in time. The lounge has a wood burner making it a cosy place to relax. There is a TV, DVD player, iPod player and a selection of DVD's and boardgames. There is a separate dining area and a fully equipped kitchen containing a gas hob and electric oven, microwave, toaster, toasted sandwich maker, bread maker and plenty of pans, cutlery and local Denby crockery. There are also flasks available to take on your country walks. Tea , coffee and biscuits are available and a carton of longlife milk so you can get the kettle on as soon as you arrive. The large bathroom on the first floor has a long bath with an overhead shower. There is an electric macerator toilet and therefore care must be taken to only put toilet paper in it otherwise it will break and there will be a charge to repair it. There is also a toilet downstairs in the out house area. The bedrooms are large situated on the first and second floors. Both have a double bed and there are 2 additional full size double Aerobeds available that can be put in each room on request and at an additional cost. There is also a travel cot available however bedding is not provided. Both bedrooms have a radio and one bedroom has a small TV. Information leaflets are available to plan your activities and make the most of all that there is to do in the local area. There are reading books as well as walking books and maps so you can fully explore the area. A washing machine is also available should need to wash any muddy clothes after a country ramble. There is full use of the garden and plenty of garden furniture so that alfresco dining can be enjoyed. WiFi is available.
Belper is a beautiful, friendly town with many independent shops such as an artisian bakery and a fabulous deli / cafe called Fresh Basil that I recommend for breakfast. There are a number of pubs within walking distance including the George and Dragon that has live music on a Friday and Saturday night. There are a great range of restaurants - Chinese, Thai, Italian, Indian, Tapas, carvery and numerous tea rooms. Belper also has the lovely independent Ritz cinema ( I recommend booking this in advance if you want to go - its worth it). There is local park with a childrens play area and row boat hire is available in the summer. The Peak district is on your doorstep, close to Chatsworth, Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell and Castleton where the famous Blue John Caves are making it a good base for walkers cyclists caving and rock climbing or if you are visiting Alton Towers. The Matlock Light Show in the Autumn is a short train journey from Belper. It may also be of interest if you have a business trip in Derby but don't want to stay in the city or working at Glowworm/Valliant or D S Smith that are close by.
  • Kirstine’s place is lovely. She rescued us from a weather-aborted camping trip and couldn’t have been more accommodating as we gave about 30mins notice of our arrival! The cottage is very cosy with 2 big double bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen. Would definitely stay again. Thanks Kirstine!

    Jayce2019-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay in a lovely cottage. The wooden stairs are a great feature and although parking on the cobbled street took some manoeuvring it was worth it for the experience.

    Alison2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable house in a great location.

    Anne2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely one night stay in this beautiful, cosy cottage full of natural charm and period features. Kirstine was a pleasure to deal with throughout, the cottage was easy to find and it was a nice touch that the heating was on a timer so it was toasty for our arrival. Parking is at a premium on the narrow cobbled street directly outside, but there is plenty of on-street parking within a very short walk. It is ideally situated within walking distance of Belper's town centre, and with the help of the handy takeaway folder we found excellent Thai food and a hearty brunch the following morning. Would recommend to anyone looking to explore this lovely part of the country.

A quirky newly refurbished property set in the heart of Belper in Derbyshire, this is a great base for anyone wishing to stay on the edge of the peak district. "The Loft" is close to all local amenities such as shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants all within walking distance. we are situated within a 5 minute walk to the local train station and are on the main route for public transport.
  • Stayed here for a second time as it's really close to central Belper, great restaurants and lovely country walks. Was just as spotlessly clean as I remember the first time and the beds really comfy too. Definitely recommend staying here!

    Jenny2018-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Enter into an adorable and cosy stay at the Loft. Relax in front of a log fire whilst watching TV and drinking the complimentary wine! All equipment from radiators to kettles were clean ans top of the range! An ideal get away for a couple seeking a stay near the country side.

    Samuel2019-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Front door leads to bedroom which leads to kitchenette, not kitchen, which leads to shower room and WC. Adequate space for 1 - 2 at most. Quarter of a window for whole space which opens to roof of another building, not sky. Very claustrophobic.

    Michelle2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah was very quick at responding to my booking and messages. She even told me she was getting me a bottle of wine for my arrival and a food basket. I was overwhelmed with her kindness from her messages alone. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the trip but she was very understanding about the whole matter. I would stay at this place again if I get the chance!

    Alexander2019-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn’t have had a better stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Sarah’s lovely apartment. The appartment was spotlessly clean and had all the facilities we needed for a great weekend. Sarah couldn’t have been more helpful, and shared some great tips for local restaurants. We would be back in a heartbeat.

    Sam2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's place was fabulous we had a great time there and she was a fabulous host. Would highly recommend to all. Thank you Sarah

  • Excellent place, beautifully decorated and well located for my dog and I. Lots of great walks nearby. Gutted to have to leave!

    Rick2017-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve just arrived back from our stay at ‘The loft’. Sarah is a great host and we would recommend this lovely apartment. Small but not claustrophobic and has everything you need. I would bare in mind that there is stairs too and from the bedroom so if you have a ‘crawler’ like our little one, it does make it more difficult to relax however Sarah did offer to provide something to help with the staircase. Would definitely stay again and Belper is such a nice town and our children were made to feel very welcome everywhere we went. Thankyou.

This spacious cottage is a great place to hang out, explore historic Belper on foot and visit Derbyshire's many attractions.
The cottage overlooks the river gardens and is very close to the 18c water mill and river walks. Within 200 m there are two excellent restaurants (17 & 18c) and many more beyond. The cottage has 2 large living rooms (4m x 4m) one with a log burner adjacent to the kitchen and a lounge/dining room with the TV/DVD. There are two large double bedrooms tastefully furnished with 2 double beds and an additional single bed if required.
Just a short walk away is the river gardens and the 18c water mill, part of the Derwent valley world heritage region.
  • We were picked up from the station (a lovely gesture) as it gave us the opportunity to meet Roy, have a chat and show us round the cottage. The neighbourhood is quiet even though on a main road. The views both from the front and back of the cottage is a photographer's delight. Make sure to take a walk to the River and the cottages down the back lane (public footpath).

  • Really good communication from host. Great location and cottage . Easy to get in with key box outside . Comfortable beds and cosy living rooms. Great find!! Great location to go to local restaurant and take aways. Thanks Roy and we hope to visit again in the future.

  • Just back from a lovely weekend in Belper. Roy's cottage was everything and more. It had a real home from home feel. We could have stayed so much longer. We had booked to go to Thomas Land about 30 miles away and the only thing we couldn't arrange was the weather - it poured - which means we will just have to come back again and would definitely book the cottage again. We had a party of 5 - 3 adults and 2 young boys. There was toys and books for all ages - we enjoyed a few board games by the log fire on Saturday night. Roy was in touch throughout our booking and stay. Thank you again. It was worth the long drive :)

  • The Airbnb was amazing. Me and my girlfriend stayed at Anna’s place as a surprise birthday gift. Anna helped by making it more special and decorated the place so balloons were up saying happy birthday along with two big birthday banners. She even prepared s tray with champagne bottles along with chocolates and a birthday card which my girlfriend was over the moon over. Truly exceptional service and we were both really pleased with the overall experience. Highly recommend! ❤️

  • This charming cottage is a perfect base to explore Derbyshire and the Peak District - it's comfortable, stylish and has everything you need. It was immaculately clean and well equipped, with an excellent kitchen and two great bathrooms. We really appreciated the little basket of goodies on arrival, and check-in was really easy. We had a really lovely weekend staying at the cottage and exploring a little of Belper and the surrounding area. It's easy to recommend Michael's cottage!

  • We were visiting friends and this was an ideal base. Michael was really quick to respond to questions and checking in was really easy. The addition of the treat basket and breakfast items was really appreciated - thank you! The cottage is really cosy and clean. The kitchen is very well stocked and there’s a lovely dining room so that if we’d been eating at the house that would have been very easy. Thank you very much, Michael!

This charming, 2 bedroomed Grade II listed stone cottage was built around 1815 by the owner of the local mills to house his workers. Enjoying a quiet, elevated position with fabulous views overlooking the Derwent Valley, this characterful cottage with many original features is located within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site and a local conservation area. Milford is an ideal base for walking and touring the Peak District and other local attractions.
A cosy cottage with stunning views and a home from home feel.
Milford was once a quiet hamlet in a part of the large deer forest that spread from Duffield to Wirksworth, until Jedediah Strutt set up a water powered cotton mill here and built housing for his workforce. Some of the housing still remains in Hopping Hill but much of the mill building was demolished between 1952 and 1964, including the cruciform warehouse of 1793, the second of Strutt's fire proof buildings with brick arch floors, timber beams and iron pillars. The bridge, with its two segmental arches was built around 1790 but widened in 1906 and is still carrying heavy traffic. The area is part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The village is situated in the Derwent Valley between Duffield and Belper with the A6 running through its centre. There are a few local public houses within walking distance and an Italian restaurant in Milford plus a village store/coffee shop. Local information can also be found at www.milford-makeney.org/

Milford historic village is a great destination choice! The Garden Apartment is a cosy retreat in a country cottage with private garden and scenic views across the valley. Perfect for visiting Derbyshire's Peak District National Park, our many National Trust and historic houses, and handy too for the city of Derby. Good pubs, restaurants and shops in the area. Longer stays are discounted... Please enquire for more information as we'd like to welcome you!
The Apartment is part of our 18th century cottage and enjoys panoramic views across the river valley and historic Milford village. Our stone-built cottage in Derbyshire's Peak District is Grade II listed and situated midway along the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site - the Valley that changed the World! [Its nomination by UNESCO was in recognition of the area's particular architecture and its distinctive landscape.]
The village is well provided with pubs and restaurants. The town of Belper [1 mile away] won the Nation's 'Best High Street' for its variety of shops and facilities. Country walks start from your door, with good public transport links for travelling further afield in the Peak District. Local buses run every 15 minutes and the Trans Peak service from Derby to Buxton is hourly. Ashbourne and Dovedale are a short drive and worth a trip to see the famous sights there. Chatsworth House - home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire is a great place to visit along with many other National Trust and English Heritage properties nearby for great days out. Kedleston Hall, Hardwick Hall and Haddon Hall to name just a few! And Derbyshire has provided picturesque settings for many films recent years.
  • Great little place to stay. Will definitely be staying again when we come back to see the family.

    Rachel2015-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at the garden apartment for three weeks because I hat a work experience in a village close to Milford. Rosemary was very nice and tried to make my stay as comfortable as possible for me. She even helped me to get to know the area around Milford so that I could fine my way to work. The Apartment was very clean and really sweet. Everything important were there and Rosemary even put something to eat in the kitchen so that I didn't have to find a shop on a Sunday evening. All in all I really enjoyed my time there and would absolutly recommend it to everyone who wants to spend some time in this area.

  • The apartment was very comfortable and well equipped. We loved the small holding in which it was situated and found the hosts very friendly.

  • Fantastic accommodation - exceptionally clean and tidy, with all the amenities you could need. The views are amazing and the location is peaceful and quiet, with the Peak District on your doorstep. Rosemary was an excellent host and communication was always quick. On arrival she had also left my partner, whose birthday it was, a little cake with a candle in it, which was very kind and thoughtful. Overall, a great place and a great host! Highly recommended!

  • We had a great time at Rosemary's. The flat was as described, very welcoming, perfect for a weekend getaway in the Peak District. Location is nice, very quiet among the rolling hills, just at the end of the village. The apartment is cleverly separated from the main household, interaction is kept to an agreeable level. Definitely recommend.

  • We had a lovely stay in this garden cottage. Rosemary was very welcoming, providing some essentials, like Milk, coffee, chocolate biscuits, and fresh flowers. The cottage is very well kept and clean, and also very private and quiet. Lovely views over the valley, and pretty gardens to look out over.

3 story cottage built in 1770. In a World heritage site to preserve the legacy of it's ties to the industrial revolution. Stunning scenery with views from the house and patio. Great local walks including the Chevin, an old Roman road, which can be seen from the house itself. A 20 minute drive to Cromford, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, and 45 minute drive to Chatsworth a House and Gardens. The Peak District can easy be accessed from the house via the A6 which runs nearby. One of our local pubs, The Holly Bush, is a 16th century hostelry which serves a range of real ales from jugs. If you are a city person, Derby is a 20 minute bus ride away and Nottingham 45 minutes. There are 2 local train stations which can take you via Nottingham and Derby to anywhere in the UK. My home is ideally suited to anyone who would like to explore the Peak District, a beautiful National Park, with something for everyone. Whilst I am happy to host, I would also be happy to let out the whole house for a family. I am a social media junkie, so communication is not going to be a problem! I will be happy to give any advice or tips where needed but equally recognise that this is your break so I will keep a respectful distance. Should you wish to rent the whole house, I will be here to welcome you. I have travelled the world independently and have friends in many countries. I look forward to meeting you! Milford is a beautiful place to live with something for everyone. See guest access section for more information.

200 year old, three-storey mill-worker's cottage, an easy 5 minute walk from Belper town centre and the train station, with links to the Peak District, Derby and beyond one double bedroom, a sofa in the living room and a couple of inflatable mattresses which can be made up as a double in the attic room. Max group size 4 adults
A three-storey terraced cottage. This is my home, which is mostly available when the wanderlust takes me elsewhere. Just to be clear, this is my home, where I live. If staying in someone else's home makes you feel uncomfortable, then this isn't the place for you. There's a double bedroom, a sofa in the living room and floor space with inflatable mattresses available in another two rooms (normally made up as a double bed in the attic), with bedding and towels for everyone. (Although it's certainly not a big house by any means, and there's only the one bathroom.) Maximum group size is 4 adults (insurance restrictions). Downstairs is the living room, with sofa (sofa bed if needed) and the all important wood burner: in the winter there will be a basket full of wood, with firelighters and kindling. A step up takes you into the kitchen, with electric hob and fan oven, fridge and washing machine in the galley area towards the back door and a freezer under the stairs. The back garden (more of a yard really, as it's mosly paved) is up steps out of the back door, a real suntrap during the day in the summer. Feel free to use the herbs from the garden or to take chairs out there to sit in the sun. The 'bathroom' is off the kitchen: a bit of a misnomer, as there is no bath tub, but the shower is hot and has great pressure. Stairs take you up to the first floor, where there is a west-facing double bedroom and a small office, from where more stairs take you up to the attic room. The attic gets the morning light, as it faces east, and makes for a great place to sit with a book and a glass of wine in the evening. If needed, there are a couple of inflatable single mattresses, with plenty of floor space for them up here (can be made up as a double) or there's space for a single in the office (if you really need it). The office also makes a good place to put a travel cot, if you have tiny people but don't want them in the same bedroom as you... If you're travelling with kids, there's a great park just down the road, literally 50 metres away, which keeps nephews and nieces occupied for ages. What I don't have is any dining space: it's an eat off your lap house, I'm afraid. On-street parking.
Belper is a great little town, far enough out of Derby to have a life of its own, not too far from the Peak District National Park. Belper has a thriving town centre (Britain's Best High Street 2014, no less!), with a good deli (Fresh Basil) that also does a great cooked breakfast, small cinema (Ritz), a couple of supermarkets, excellent off-licence (Liquid Treasure), old fashioned sweet shop, plenty of the usual eateries (curry houses, chinese takeaways, a thai and bistro-type dining at 'Nourish at No. 44'), greengrocers, butchers, bakers (no candlestick maker that I know of, I'm afraid). There's a monthly farmers' market a 5 minute walk from the house on the 2nd Saturday of each month (go for the ostrich burgers and cinnamon donuts), an annual arts festival in May, food festival in July and visiting fun fair. The town is in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, with East Mill down on the river home to a nesting pair of Peregrines, who often fly over the house! And for those who need their fix of the big city, Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leicester are all an easy train ride away, and the Trans Peak bus service takes you to Manchester (although it takes its time...).
  • Le rez de chaussée était vraiment juste mais les chambres dans les étages très correctes. Belper est une petite ville très sympathique bien située pour rayonner sur les sites touristiques environnants. Les campagnes superbes donc séjour réussi

A beautiful renovated chapel on the edge of the Peak District with a huge, light open plan living space upstairs and four good sized bedrooms including one en suite and a family bathroom downstairs (we call it an 'upside down' house!) Ideally set up for families and groups of friends, it is nestled within the pretty village of Milford within walking distance to local pubs and parks and a 5 minute drive from the shops and amenities of Belper.
A unique converted chapel with three bedrooms and a playroom / kids bedroom downstairs, huge open plan kitchen / living space upstairs, one en suite shower room, one family bathroom with bath and shower, small back garden and decking area and desk area in open plan space upstairs.
We’re nestled within a small, close-knit community close to Belper and on the edge of the beautiful Peak District. The nearest city is Derby.
  • Sally is a great host. Excellent communications prior to our arrival to pass on information and ask about the required bedroom layouts. Once at the home the information sheet provided gave us all the details we needed. House is an amazing space, everything you would need is provided. I'll definitely stay again in future.

  • I booked the Chapel on behalf of my mum and my aunt and her family, as a base for their trip to the midlands and beyond. Sal was absolutely brilliant in communicating with us throughout and my family had a wonderful experience staying at the Chapel. The house was very comfortable, with lots of local information provided and many thoughtful touches to make one feel welcome. It was a pleasure to spend time in such a picturesque location and the very well-equipped kitchen was a real delight. We would love to return to the Chapel someday.

High quality Bed & Breakfast accommodation in a 1828 period, stone-built, Grade II Listed, Nailmaster's Residence set in half-acre secluded formal gardens in Belper's historic Conservation Area. The three bedrooms, 2 x D, 1 Twin (all en-suite)
About the Cedars... In the late 18th century, Belper was the nailmaking centre of Britain, with over 500 nailers working around the town. The ‘Nailmaster’ of Belper, Abram Harrison, built himself a grand house on a small farm between Jedediah Strutt’s mill village and the town of Belper, and this house, originally called ‘Field House’, is now known as The Cedars. The parkland, walled gardens, and cedar trees once surrounding the house were long ago reduced to the present half an acre of mature formal gardens and terracing - a peaceful retreat of trees and lawns in the historic heart of Belper. The Cedars has a colourful history: A Silversmith lived here at the turn of the century; a judge owned the house before the First World war; it was strafed by enemy planes in WWII; the house became Belper Clinic after the war, and after a period in the 1980s as the HQ of a local building firm, The Cedars became the Headquarters of Deb Chemicals PLC. In 1996, Neil and Ann Wayne took on the task of turning this last of the great town-houses of Belper back into a family home. There were no bathrooms, no kitchen, all fireplaces were long gone, the cellars lay unopened since 1921, and much of the original Regency character and detailing had been lost from the interiors.
Belper’s famed River Gardens, Visitor Centre and Heritage Centre are a short stroll and the fine scenery and attractions of the “White Peak” and Peak National Park are but a short drive; why not visit Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, Kedleston Hall, The Tramway Museum, Alton Towers, the spa town of Buxton or the caves of Castleton during your stay?
  • Very welcoming. Nothing too much trouble

    David2017-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time. Our host was very welcoming and helpful for all local information, we felt quite at home. So quiet and peaceful despite being so close to everything in Belper. Belper and the b&b both exceeded expectation. I think the photographers don't do the place justice.

    Catherine2015-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Neil is a very welcoming host who couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was good. The room at the top of the house was spacious and had everything we needed. Even though the house is near town it is very quiet.

    Jane2015-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Neil was exceptionally welcoming and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. Airbnb had booked the site as "entire place", when it's actually a B&B, but it turned out to be a fortuitous error, and we enjoyed the stay more than we would have in a self-catered place. We found out that Neil has been a musician most of his life and has an extensive collection of concertinas. If you ask, he will tell you a lot about concertinas and play for you, but you would never know about this if you didn't ask. The bedrooms are large, quiet, and comfortable. An added bonus to the traditional B&B breakfast fare was pain au chocolat! The B&B is about a block away from the main street with several shops and restaurants, in a quiet neighborhood.

Magnolia Cottage is a Grade II listed 240 year old cottage located on the cobbled street of Long Row in the historical town of Belper. We absolutely love our cottage, and look forward to sharing it with anyone interested in having a relaxing break in the countryside, Less than 10 minutes walk from Belper bus and train stations
There are 2 sets of stairs leading to the 2nd floor bedroom. The 2nd floor bedroom has a king sized bed and the 1st floor has a double sized bed. We also have a large selection of DVD's for you to enjoy. The smart TV is available for you to watch Netflix if you have an account. Very good wifi from every room. The bedrooms both have lovely views of the countryside and the 2nd floor bedroom overlooks the East Mill. This cottage is perfect for hikers and walkers. We are located at the gateway to the Peak District, and in less than 5 minutes you can pick up a footpath leading to Cromford and Matlock If you are planning to stay for a longer visit we can arrange for our local cleaner to visit for an extra charge.
Belper is a historic town, with small shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The Ritz is a lovely independent movie theatre, all are a 5-10 minute walk away. There are many hikes and walks nearby. What makes it so special here are the friendly neighbors and their sense of pride about the area. If you are looking for a place to have a party and make a lot of noise please look elsewhere! The beauty of this cottage is the quietness and peacefulness that surrounds it.
  • Thank you Heidi for a lovely two night stay. It was probably the coldest weather of this winter so far so we really did appreciate having the log burner to defrost in front of in the evenings. It’s a spacious house for two guests and it was equipped with everything we needed. It would have been lovely to read some history of the cottage in the welcome folder :) The cottage is stunning and on the prettiest street in Belper. Very special! Would highly recommend. Hope to visit again soon! X (Many thanks for all of your speedy replies too, especially with the time difference!)

  • Heidi's cottage is in a great location, just a short walk to the town centre and the river gardens. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has a lovely garden. There is a train line just a few doors away that does spoil the peace and quiet for a few seconds throughout the day. It would have been slightly better if there was comfortable seating for 4 adults in the lounge. The rocking chair is not a great place to relax! We had a lovely stay and would definitely return if we were to visit the area again.

  • This is a sweet little cottage in a quaint, cobbled street in Belper. Such an interesting place full of history. Heidi ensured everything needed was there on arrival.

  • Okay place , walking distance from town centre , I didn’t enjoy it much myself as building isn’t very functional as per its age but it’s an okay place to stay , bit pricey for what it is in my view but it did the job .

    Luke2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • My wife, daughter and I were so happy with the house. It’s located walking distance for a number of pubs and restaurants as well as the Belper high street. The house had everything we could need and was spotlessly clean and so comfortable.

  • Heidi's place was the perfect base for exploring the Peak District. Belper is a charming little town and Heidi's place is comfortable and cosy with plenty of space for our party of three.

  • Heidi's place is a lovely, charming cottage in the heart of historic Belper on a cobbled lane. We had a very comfortable and relaxing time.

    Trudi2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very cosy cottage - loved the history and character. The spacious master bedroom with the exposed brick chimney was particularly lovely! Great location - walking distance to the high street in Belper with shops and amenities, and also close to the Peak District which we accessed by car.

  • Perfect for an affordable gathering of friends but the house could do with some updating and extra amenities.

  • Good place for a large family gathering. Children loved it.

  • We had a fun stay overall. Perfect for exploring the peaks and the lovely countryside of Derbyshire. House is the very lovely market town of Belper. Belper has everything you could possibly need. The house is hidden by a road of shops, pubs and takeaways - well hidden away but incredibly central Layout is quirky to say the least but it’s actually perfect for large groups who want a huge communal area yet private space too. Plenty of space to sit and relax as well as private sleeping areas. If you are traveling with young children- be aware there are stairs everywhere. It’s hard to block them all off. Good facilities- but be aware you need many many £1 coins for the electricity meter and the car park. The house was clean and tidy. The decor is tired (but accurately described) but everything was comfortable and in working condition We would happily stay here again.

  • A very spacious property which is good for a big group. Large lounge upstairs with plenty of sofas and comfortable chairs. Front garden with table and chairs and a bbq. Good location in Belper near to the local shops and restaurants, and a nearby lake where you can hire boats. However the owners did ask for my address which was bizarre (and against air bnb policy and air bnb advise against giving this) and the letting agency that act on behalf of the owner replied when I asked why: ‘All guests at all the properties are asked for their address whether AirB&B or from whatever source. As owners who are renting out their properties to strangers I do not think that having an address is out of order’ Also to note the information pack says 5 cars could be parked but this was not possible as would entail blocking the neighbour’s car.

  • This is a cheap and cheerful place, really well located in Belper, the suspended ceilings and grouting in the showers could use some updating. We had a big family holiday and loved the central common area. The kitchen is really well equipped, there's not much outdoor space, but enough for a b and Neil and Ann are very responsive and helpful hosts.

    Mike2018-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • The garden is beautiful and the main common room light and spacious. The venue recently added having towels available as a service and they were a nice size and felt nice to use. It took us a while to figure out how to use the heating system, but once we did, plenty of hot water was available. One thing that could make this venue even better is if they were able to upgrade from a coin system for paying for light and heat. I felt anxious the whole time about running out and was constantly watching the machine! Overall, a good visit with ample time to cook, eat, do yoga and meditate.
