  • Great accommodations, comfortable beds, great knowledge of the area, quiet area. All around wonderful experience.

  • What a treat to spend time at DeAnna’s AirBnB! Whenever we travel, we like learning about the area we’re visiting, and DeAnna and Gordon shared so much about Amana history and culture with us. I’m sure it was a mere drop in the bucket of their collective knowledge, but it greatly enhanced our visit and left us wanting to know more. The lodging itself was clean, attractive, and comfortable! We loved staying in High Amana which had some fun history within walking distance! So happy we stayed at DeAnna’s AirBnB!

  • DeAnna and Gordon are sweet, genuine people who will welcome you and ensure your stay is comfortable. They both have in-depth knowledge of the area and its history, which is great when you’re looking for good meals or things to do. DeAnna seems born to the hospitality business with her flair for beautiful yet comfortable decor. And she can talk with you about any subject so easily you’ll feel like you’re with a close friend. She made me feel like I was visiting a favorite family member because she was so welcoming and warm. Gordon is an artist (you can see some of his amazing work in the pics for this listing) and he even lets you wander into his studio to watch him at work. He’s a quiet, kind man who patiently answered all of our (MANY!) questions about the local architecture, flora and fauna, building materials and methods, etc. DeAnna left us two printed pages of every store and restaurant and the open hours (things close early in Amana!), as well as a list of all the local activities happening during our stay. We used it every day. The furnishings, beds, pillows, linens, towels, soaps, shampoos, etc. were all top quality. Seriously, better than I have at home. They have a beautiful outdoor space full of flowers and a lush green lawn with beautiful trees dotted around. And there’s also a large well house they have converted into another comfortable place to sit and relax. Have you ever been in the backyard of an established, talented gardener who has been working that space for years? Where it’s just a lush riot of color all over the place and it seems like a secret garden? It’s like that. They were not at all intrusive but were available immediately when we called out greetings as we came and went, and when we had a question or needed guidance/direction. My only disappointment is there are no longer any Amish people in the Amana Colonies. Didn’t see a single buggy or bonnet, and that’s the only reason I wanted to go to Amana. BUT, I so thoroughly enjoyed DeAnna and Gordon, and felt so comfortable and at home there, I plan to go back JUST to visit them again and have a peaceful, relaxing weekend away. I can’t recommend this listing, and this couple, enough. If you’re worried they aren’t close enough to the shops, don’t be. Amana is a 7 minute drive and parking is plentiful. They are situated perfectly between the towns which make up the colonies, which are all close together. This is a wonderful place to call home at the end of your busy day and I highly, highly recommend!

  • Huge home with lower guest suite that includes a bathroom and ante-room with TV and an extra twin bed. Tons of art work and decorations to look at. Enter through a large kitchen. There is a table set up with cereal, coffee, glasses for water, etc. Outside is well kept, pretty garden, patio to hang out. Hosts are super nice. Look for the rabbit statue to find the driveway.

  • This is a great find for a sweet little getaway! The house and gardens are beautiful and DeAnna is a fantastic host. Super welcoming, super clean and close to lovely things to do in the area. Highly recommend!

  • DeAnna and Gordon are wonderful hosts, top notch. The house is very clean and well decorated. There is so much history in their house alone and of course in the whole Amana area. They are both extremely knowledgeable about the area and are so willing to share anything you want to know. I can not say enough about it stay here. Everything is to quality. Fresh flowers in every room, anything you could ever need. We definitely plan to come back. what a blessing this stay was. Thank you so much

  • Deanana and Gordon's home built during the beginning of Amana's history is lovely. The rugs, art, and original walnut and cherry furniture pieces could be featured in a "this old house" magazine. Our two bedroom suite was clean and A perfect space for two women on a 48 hour outing in the amanas colonies. Gordon is 4th generation, and knows everything about the amana story. Plus the rhubarb wine he makes is exceptional.

We love our country retreat, and want to share it with you! Perfect for both small or large groups with plenty of space, indoors & out! Enjoy the beautiful countryside along with farm fresh eggs from our own hens. Local, fresh produce from Northern Ridge Farm & Market is just across the road. We are located on a prime bicycle route, and close to the historic Amana Colonies, historic Kalona Village, Coralvile/Iowa City. We're a 25 minute drive to Kinnick Stadium & the University of Iowa/UIHC.
Beautifully restored and renovated early 1900's home, which once served as a coach house.
We live in a rural setting with a couple of visible neighboring homes and a farm & market across the road. There is a farm and a pasture close by where cows are kept on and off throughout the year. We sit on a semi-busy, paved road, and are 3 miles from the closest small town (Oxford).
  • We had An amazing time at the Roost this weekend. The kids loved the board games and toys in the house. The adults enjoyed the huge and very clean hot tub. We also used the gym and sauna which were awesome too. Everything was very clean and exceeded our expectations. Lots of pantry staples for cooking, dishes and glasses, well stocked fridge, and amazing homemade banana bread!

    Kellie2019-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Terri runs an absolutely lovely and homey "roost" where guests experience the beauty of the Iowa countryside in close proximity to the Amana colonies and many colleges. Expect charming chickens, fresh eggs, and an attentive and friendly host.

  • The Roost was perfect for our family over the Thanksgiving Holidays! Terri was the perfect host - and went above and beyond with her special touches to make it so nice for us - breakfast supplies (fresh eggs!), fridge with bottled water, seasonings to use for cooking, and more. The home was so clean and comfortable - lots of space! Terri was very welcoming! I highly recommend the Roost to anyone or any family - thank you Terri!

  • This was my first bed and breakfast experience and I wasn't disappointed! Lisa greeted us at the door and was so friendly. Our room was very nice and the breakfasts she served were amazing! It is located only a few miles from the Amana Colonies, so very convenient! Would definitely recommend.

  • We truly enjoyed your B & B, and the time you took to explain some of the history of Amana. The rooms worked perfect for us. Loved the way they were decorated. We didn't want for anything. Our host was very considerate of all our needs. Had the feel of a true B & B. Very nice and cozy. Thanks again.

    Coralee2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa is top notch, and provided us with an amazing stay. The house itself is a beautiful, old home that fits perfectly with the Amana Colonies classic theme. However, it was updated nicely, and our room had its own thermostat, as well as a tv, DVD player, and plenty of electrical outlets. Lisa kept cookies, brownies, fruits and other snacks available in a communal guest kitchen, and her breakfast in the morning was to die for. Lastly, Lisa provided us valuable tips on where to go in town for eating, shopping, etc. it was a great stay, and I would highly recommend giving Lisa a shot if you’re visiting the Amana Colonies.

  • Excellent! My friend and I met up for a girls weekend in Iowa and stayed here. The homemade breakfasts (French toast one day and cinnamon rolls + quiche the second day) were WONDERFUL. The room was so cute and the surrounding area provided lots of activity. The dining area was beautifully decorated in a fall theme as well. I would highly recommend a stay here. The room quality and breakfast was WAY worth the value we paid.

    Sarah2018-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful authentic Amish house. Lisa was always available and the room was perfectly described and photos were accurate. Food was amazing and filled us up to dinner

    Kathy2016-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa worked so hard to make my visit a wonderful relaxing time. Her breakfasts are a visual and culinary delight. And she and her Husband, Jeff, have worked hard bringing the house back to it's peak of splendor in the 1800s with modern amenities such as heat, air conditioning and perfect water temperatures. They added a gazebo out back and hosted a wedding this year. Plus, I can imagine how comfortable their in ground pool is in the summer. It's beautiful to look at now. I will say, I'll be back. Thank you, Lisa and Jeff. ♡♡♡

We have multiple restaurants, wineries, a chocolate shoppe, bakery, & a local brewery. Set back off of the main street our B&B is quiet, spacious & has a ton of usable outdoor space. Reserved parking on site. Pets welcome upon approval. Room One/Iowa Rose Room features a queen bed with an en suite bath.
Our B&B, built in the 1890's, is one of the last communal residences built by those living in the Amana Colonies. It boasts 5 bedrooms, 4 baths and two kitchens. The upper levels provide the perfect space for our B&B guests to stay, with large bedrooms, bathrooms, a full kitchen and gathering spaces. We have multiple flower gardens for your enjoyment over or half acre of land and are within walking distance of all events in Main Amana.
Our neighborhood is generally quiet. We are located on a 1/2 acre lot. Festival weekends are a little more hopping as we have the Festhall Barn down the street and the Market Barn across from us, these are both primary venues for food games and activities during the festivals.
  • Megan was an amazing host. She was very receptive to all my emails and texts. The continental breakfast was great. The best breakfast was on Saturday morning. She is good cook. The location could not be more perfect. Close to all the restaurants and activities of the little town of Amana.

  • Megan and her husband and their home are delightful. They could use a few more kitchen items, but the place was clean and comfortable and ideally located. A second set of towels and another pillow option would be grand, but I'm not complaining.

    Rebecca2019-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Megan's place was very nice. It was close to the festival area and an easy walk to several restaurants too. We stayed in room 1 and it had a bathroom inside the room; which was nice. It was very quiet and a great place to stay for a trip to the Amanas.

  • I had a great stay, Megan was extremely friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable!

    Zeke2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Megan was an excellent communicator. She asked ahead of time if we would like a hot breakfast, and an egg bake, fresh fruit (really delicious) and bacon was left in the kitchen, which was adjacent to our room. The home was very clean, and well-appointed. This is a very lovely community and Megan's place ideally located. It was well-situated for taking breaks from walking the town. I can't imagine why anyone would choose different lodging!

Upstairs Two Bedroom Suite with antique Amana-German Parlor in quiet historic district of High Amana. Three single beds, and ROKU TV. Share upstairs bathroom in hallway with one other guest. Home of resident artist, surrounded by farm fields and timber. Share kitchen, dining area, and coffee maker downstairs. Sit and relax inside our newly remodeled antique wash house in the courtyard! Also available downstairs: Two-Bedroom Spacious Suite/sleeps 2-3: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/24021568
The home was built by a communal Christian society in 1863, led by prophetic leader Christian Metz. It has retained most of its original floor plan, which was fashioned for multi-family living. This included a common hallway with two-room dwellings for single people. Communal kitchens closed in 1932. A kitchen was then added to this home, and the attached harness and leather shoe repair shop is now our living room. Relive the atmosphere of a colorful German Oma's Haus, featuring antique furnishings made in the Amana Colonies and resident artist paintings. The home overlooks a spacious yard with old lilacs and the sandstone Arts Guild (Open May 1-October 1) with exhibits and handcrafted gift shop, which was a former church building in the communal era.
It is a short walk around the entire village of High Amana, up to the cemetery and back. The Amana Arts Guild Center with gift shop is next door (Open May-October). Also visit the Visitors Center in Main Amana (about 5 miles east) concerning museums, shopping, van driven tours, theater and seasonal events.
  • DaAnna and Gordon are wonderful hosts. The artwork in the hallway is quite wonderful. The apartment is decorated with antiques, and the beds are authentic Amana colony style. The parlor room is great for reading or playing games.

  • If you’re looking to experience Amana, but you like a bit more of your own space and a kitchen to prepare your own food in, as opposed to a BnB, this is a great find. Deanna and her whole family are friendly fonts of local knowledge, and there are lots of lovely personal touches and antiques to puzzle over. Worth a stay!

    Rebecca2018-09-02T00:00:00Z

  • We loved our stay. Amana is a charming town with lots of character and friendly people. The house is tucked away from the main street and very quiet. The house was clean and very spacious with great care to maintain the vintage character. The kitchen was nicely stocked for us to make breakfast and we were able to come and go as we pleased. We definitely will be back. Thank you Megan!

  • We had a fantastic time at the Rawson's B&B. Lisa was exceptionally accommodating, greeting us at the door at night, when we arrived late and (Hidden by Airbnb) maps led us astray. The room was gorgeous and precisely as described. And the breakfast was phenomenal, along with all the other amenities at the house -- hot tub, board game closet, cozy sitting rooms, an all-day array of snacks. It was a great, restful weekend -- much more peaceful and preferable to the typical hotel experience.

    Jessica2016-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • The place is charming, well decorated and comfortable. It is very peaceful as well. Lisa is available and makes the logistics very simple. She did a great job at preparing a dairy-free, grain-free breakfast for me :-)

  • Great spot off the beaten path for a quick getaway.

    Matt2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a historic, unique bed and breakfast located near the Amanas, which are fun to shop and eat at. The bed and breakfast itself was decorated very cute with unique pieces and was itself an old, historic home that was beautiful to experience. The owners had lots of places for us to sit and things to do such as a sitting room with various reading material, a DVD closet with diverse selections, a game closet in the communal dining room area, an outdoor patio with outdoor games such as large checkers and Jenga, and outdoor pool. The room itself was cute and comfortable. We appreciated the exposed brick and beams as well as modern amenities such as a large TV and DVD player, air conditioning, and whirlpool tub. We also appreciated the access to drinks throughout our stay and enjoyed a delicious homemade breakfast with great presentation.

    Joletta2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • The bed and breakfast was a great place for our anniversary retreat. The room has a lot of character. They have a great assortment of DVD's available for viewing. The breakfast was delicious.

  • Our expectations were exceeded in every way! This was the perfect place to call it a day after wining and dining in the Amana Colonies all day. Clean room with tasteful antique style decorations, combined with whirl pool bath, clean wine glasses, tv with access to 200+ dads, excellent quiche breakfast with coffee, fresh fruit and juice. If we visited during the warmer months there is even an outdoor swimming pool and garden lounge! Thank you so much, we will be back!

    Kyle2017-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We were warmly greeted by Lisa and immediately made to feel welcome. Their B&B is delightful! There isn't a bad room in the house. LIsa has prepared "on purpose", thought of everything and anticipated any need that a visitor to the Amana colonies may have. The bed was good, bedding was very comfortable. Great pillows! Breakfast was delicious.

  • This was our second time staying at this bend and breakfast. The place has plenty of charm and the hosts are very hospitable. The breakfast each morning is delicious and provides quite the perfect start to the day.
