The Hallowell Historic Rooming House is just two blocks from downtown Hallowell, which is nicknamed the "New Orleans on the Kennebec." The city is a regional center for the arts in central Maine, with renowned art galleries, performing arts theaters, studios, festivals and local artists. Hallowell is also home to renowned bars, taverns and restaurants, with the downtown area having a high concentration of eating and drinking establishments. The rooming house is self checkin. See instructions
Room C is a sunny room on the second floor with a great view of the Old South Church and a large closet. The room has a full size antique bed fitted with premium LL Bean bedding. The room has all the amenities of a five star hotel: decorative L.L. Bean furniture, fresh flowers, plush L.L. Bean bathrobe, fully equipped gym with four workout stations each with its own personal TV, large screen TV in the room with local channels and amazon prime loaded, a welcome gift and extreme cleanliness. The room also includes a desk and executive chair, reading chair, refrigerator with freezer, and hotwater maker with complimentary beverages. It is an historic house that was built in the 1820s by an abolitionist and philanthropist for the Knights of Columbus who used it as charity housing for freedom seekers and others. The third floor used to be a dormitory lined with beds each with a set of built in drawers for each bed that are still present. There is a granite block tunnel that leads from the basement to the Kennebec River. The house was recently renovated with many of the original features preserved and the historic beams exposed. Hallowell is two miles from the state capitol, three miles from I-295, three miles from the airport, seven miles from the Concord bus station, and six miles from the Civic Center, the University of Maine and Augusta Crossing (the mall).
Hallowell is a small coastal community on a tidal river and estuary. The house is within two blocks of downtown in a quiet residential neighborhood, No steep hills to climb. Many walking and bicycle trails nearby. Vaughn Brook and trails is a short walk up Second Street. The carriage trails are known as "hobbitland," characterized by granite bridges and gurgling waterfalls. There are also trails around Jamie Pond and the Hallowell Recreation Area where the town beach is located off Town Farm Road.
  • What a great place!

  • Lovely place! Close to the river and lots of shops in Hallowell. It’s a wonderful place.

  • Room C was a great space for one person. There were a lot of amenities I wasn't expecting in an air bnb. The private shower and bathroom and the flannel sheets were the best part. Very cozy space. Andrea responded immediately to my questions about parking etc before I arrived.

  • Just perfect. Lovely town, super space and just a beautiful spot. So happy we stayed here.

    Jerry-Faye2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea's place is thoughtfully designed with the traveler in mind. It is exceptionally clean and quite comfortable. I appreciated the unique and clever setup for the private bathroom and shower. The common areas are spacious and comfortable, as well. I enjoyed being a few minutes' walk from downtown Hallowell, and I enjoyed dining and spending some time in this great and very friendly town. I also enjoyed meeting and chatting with some of the other guests at Andrea's place. They were friendly, respectful, and interesting. I have already booked a second stay.

Room E is a "room with a view" of the Kennebec River and park. The house is within 2 blocks of downtown. The room is completely furnished with L.L. Bean furniture and includes cable TV, mini fridge, iron and iron board & cozy bathrobe. The bed has warm flannel sheets. Private bathroom in gym. Door accessed by digital lock & there is a chain lock on the inside. For stays of two nights or longer complimentary L.L. Bean bicycles and kayaks are available. The rooming house is self check in.
The Hallowell Historic Rooming House is newly renovated house that was built in the 1820s by a philanthropist and abolitionist. There is a granite tunnel that leads from the house to the river. The third floor was used as a dormitory possibly for freedom seekers. It is a post and beam house where all of the beams have been exposed. The house is designed for long term accommodations. There is designated space in the pantry and under the counters for groceries. Each room has it's own refrigerator and there is designated space in the common refrigerator and deep freezer. Rooms are cleaned and linens changed weekly. Bathrooms are cleaned weekly. The second bed is a very comfortable LL Bean roll out cot. Complimentary laundry for stays of five nights or konger.
There is a lot to do in Hallowell. We have a live theater, live music, many different restaurants and shops. Vaughn Woods is nearby with walking trails. The Kennebec River Rail Trail goes through Hallowell. The Kennebec River is a great place to kayak and see bald eagles soaring and sturgeon jumping.
  • Wonderful place

    Anna2019-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Room E is cozy, but has everything you need for an easy overnight. TV, Desk, Comfortable armchair and bed, you feel like you're getting a lot out of this private space than just a bed. Also, Andrea left thoughtful touches like a chocolate by the bed and a glass of wine for me.

    Shannon2018-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • For the cost, this is a great find. Quiet hours were observed after 10pm by all guests. Andrea had left ear plugs and there was a sound machine. I didn't need either one. There were at least two air fresheners (one in my room on a timer and a plug-in in the bathroom). If you are sensitive to these, now you know and could ask for the one in your room to be turned off prior to arrival. It's a no shoe place, so bring slippers or indoor shoes if you don't want to go around in bare feet or your socks. Andrea has a lot of nice touches like extra toiletries and things available. The towels were very plush.

    Kate2018-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea has great attention to detail and goes out of the way to make sure that you have everything you need. The amount of amenities provided coupled with the low cost create substantial value. I will go out of my way to stay here again if available in the future.

  • It’s as though you know Sylvia and she invited you to spend the night. She prepared a great organic breakfast in the morning for me, and was very accommodating. This is a great place to stay if you are visiting Maine for any reason, and offered a great reprieve during my camping trip.

  • There is absolutely no reason to ever stay anywhere else if you are going to stay in Augusta! Venkatesh is an amazing host who goes way above and beyond any expectations. He is charming, engaging and incredibly generous. The bed is comfortable, the private bath and bedroom and luxurious, and he provides every possible thoughtful touch you can imagine. There was a loaded fridge with beer, water, yogurt and fruit. He provides tea, coffee and snacks. In the bedroom he has a phone charger and during the heatwave we experienced while in Maine, he provided a room AC and fan, as well as a brand new yoga mat, just in case I wanted to stretch. I only hope he is making enough money to stay a host, as he provides SO much for the very minimal amount he charges. Please stay with Venkatesh, you won't regret it.

    Colleen2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Venkatesh has absolutely everything you need to make your stay perfect. His place is absolutely spotless, the amenities delightful and thoughtful, and his hospitality is beyond compare! Our entire NE vacation was staying at Airbnb’s and Venkatesh was simply the best!

    Alexander2019-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Venkatesh is a great host! He genuinely cares about your stay and wants to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. The space is very clean and has everything you could need. It's nicer than any hotel we've ever stayed at! Absolutely would stay again in a heartbeat!

    Loren2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Venkatesh is the best host I have ever encountered. Words cannot describe his hospitality and kindness. I will definitely consider visiting Augusta again just to come back to see Venkatesh.

    Kianu2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Venkatesh's hospitality exceeded my expectations. He was kind, and there were plenty of snacks and pens and paper.

    Augusta, Maine, États-Unis

Antique cape farmhouse 2'nd floor bedroom with full size bed. Short walk to the Barn at Silver Oaks down the street. There is a photo, but because people don't look, there are 4 cats! Located on 5 acres of land, 1 mi from downtown, public beach on Maranacook Lake and Norcross Point (free concerts held every Sunday July-August) 10 miles from Augusta, 1 hour drive to Reid State Park on Atlantic Ocean. Free range chickens and geese, fresh eggs daily. Abundance of wildlife. Maine living.
For now this is just a bedroom available, but by fall I am hoping to have the entire 2'nd floor available for air BnB. This is a NON SMOKING apartment. Cigarette smoking must be done at least 50 feet from entrance of home, and filters put in designated containers due to free range chickens. There are cats and a dog on the property, so if you have allergies probably not a good fit. However, there are no inlaid carpets; pine floors abound. Clean and mellow owner on site and shares apartment with guest during stay. Cooking facilities and all cooking items available. There is a public laundromat about 1.5 miles from home.
My neighborhood is located on a state route, but it is a quiet neighborhood and most of us keep to ourselves. I have 5 private acres that have paths to walk and gardens to enjoy, as well as wild edibles for your enjoyment. Lots of wild birds, including turkeys, as well.
  • Elizabeth aims to please with her humble farmhouse. She is absolutely welcoming and hospitable. I highly recommend booking a room with her for your next trip to her local area.

    Kevin2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was the first time we stayed in an air bnb that we rented a room instead of the entire space. It was different for us. However, Elizabeth was a great host. She was very kind and gave us local recommendations for food and things to do. She even offered us some homemade cherry pie. She communicated great and was very respectful.

    Jami2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Elizebeth’s place is very cozy. The room we had was very clean, and offered a place to relax when we needed to do so. Elizebeth was an AMAZING hostess. She communicated very well, and ensured we where comfortable. I would recommend staying here for sure.

    Marvin2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described, Elizabeth was a very upbeat and welcoming host. She was kind and understanding of our needs and Sophia and the kitties made it feel like a home away from home for the night.

    Katie2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • My stay was perfect! I can’t think of any way it could have been better, and I am very fussy. All the little extras, like a welcoming chocolate, bottled water, ear buds, sleep mask, sparkling clean bath robe, authentic LL BEAN linens and decor made me have what I call a , “Norman Rockwell” experience in Maine. She even provided a little “falling snow” on the morning I left (LOL)! Seriously, I can’t wait to return!!!

If you are interested in rustic camping but are done with sleeping in a tent, and want to experience Maine on the cheap, this electrified space has housed many a guest over the years. It is an unfinished but cozy 1.5 story loft over a garage. There is no running water and it is NOT suitable for small children due to ladder access to sleeping loft and high deck. There is a camp toilet which is the responsibility of the guest to empty and rinse daily if used. Wifi inside or yard depending.
This space is not for the faint of heart, the ladder is steep and not safe for someone over 200 pounds. There is a small cot and couch on main floor if needed. There is a hotplate, microwave, toaster oven, 2 cup coffee maker, radio, ceiling fan, queen sized mattress and boxspring, and plenty of outlets. A handyperson could get a long term deal on this property if they were willing to put in finishing work. Water is available at the hose. This space is only available during the summer and early fall due to lack of heat and insulation. The whole property is full of paths and is situated on 5 acres of land.
This is a quiet neighborhood on a state route. Backroads lead to the mountains, main roads lead to the coast. We are 1 mile from the public beach. There are biking trails and Mt. Pisgah is a short ride away.
  • This is a great place if you need a good night's sleep on a tight travel budget. There is a clean bed or a sofa to sleep on. Sheets and blankets are provided. The host is very friendly. The rooster will wake you in the morning if you forgot your alarm clock!

    Philip2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth’s place was a great if you’re looking to stay at a place that’s between camping and glamping. When walking in, the radio was playing and the musical instruments were a very nice touch! The bed that’s up on the loft is comfortable, and I slept well. I didn’t use the appliance though. Elizabeth was really friendly and even offered fresh peaches. Thanks!

In fact in addition to the stove, oven, fridge, toaster, iron, it was equipped with all cooking utensils. It is great place for families who need to do some basic cooking away from home. My pups and I had the pleasure of an extended stay and couldn't be happier with our time here. The dog run was especially appreciated for a convenient spot to stretch the pups' legs. My husband & I own this lovely 18 unit motel & have personally renovated, decorated & supplied each guest rm with all you need for an overnight or extended stay! All have fridges, microwaves, coffee pots & toasters & utensils & most have stoves!
Each guest unit has either a king or queen bed, at least an under the counter fridge, microwave, coffee pot, utensils, dishes and a toaster. Most have a stove top too! Each has a private bath with a shower. All are first floor with an exterior door with parking in front of your door.
Although we do not have any neighbors who "live" next to the property, we are located in the wonderful, small town of Manchester, where, much like the "Cheers" song, "everybody knows your name". So, if you are walking on our neighbors property, please respect it like it was your own. For example: don't litter and if walking your dog, pick up after them. Within a few hundred yards to the east, there is a Circle K convenience store where you can pick up milk, bread, butter, coffee, drinks, snacks, homemade doughnuts and even beer, wine and liquor. Manchester "center" has a Rite Aid, post office, Duncan Donuts, Subway and a couple of gas/convenience stores and is between 1/4 and 1/2 mile to the west.
  • We had a lovely time. The room was adorable--loved the unicorn curtains and comfy mattress. Manchester is located perfectly between Bangor and Portland, so we were able to visit both cities during our stay.

  • The place was super clean and well equipped. Extremely glad I found this listing at the right time. Sheila and Kent were very hospitable and ensured all was well. They were easy to reach and responded fast. It was a pleasure staying here.

    Karin2017-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third time booking with Sheila and Kent, and each time is better than the last! They go out of their way to accommodate in terms of check-in time, communication about booking, and their unbeatable booking rates. This time our room came equipped with brand new kitchen appliances, an air conditioner, and a full bathroom (with tub!). We felt like we had our own studio apartment, as opposed to just a "room for the night." We'll definitely be back!

    Melissa2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute space and we enjoyed our time. It was quiet, clean, and close enough to major cities and shopping areas. We didn't realize it was a motel space, we thought it was an apartment or a house, so that could have been made clearer in the description.

    Allison2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • First of all the hosts took my credit card when I arrived in charged me even though Airbnb says they paid the host an hour before I arrived. I did not receive the receipt from Airbnb so I did not know they had already paid the host. The host tried to get around the Airbnb fee by taking my payment directly. Secondly this is not an Airbnb but two motels in rural Maine. They are both on a very noisy Road that you don't hear when you're sleeping at night so much but you cannot sit outside during the day. They did a nice job renovating the room 19 at the Fairway but the odor is overpowering. I believe there are long-term tenants in the motel many of whom smoke and they sit out front so the smoke blows into all the units. It may have been pet odor or mold but it was overpowering and even with the air conditioning on my allergies went haywire! I asked for a non-smoking no

    Nina2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Close to the interstate, but very quiet. Room was just where I happened to park. Nice features including small fridge, microwave and some dishes. Hosts made sure I had everything I needed.

  • Andrea’s place is a true home away from home. Cozy, romantic, very clean and great communication with the host. It comes with free parking and the Hallowell area has plenty to offer and explore. We found a touch of magic here, thank you so much xxx Would highly recommend it to anyone!

    Lisa2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea's property is really lovely. The decor is cosy with great style. The view of the river from the back deck is a treat. Andrea accommodated us at short notice and the kitchen was well stocked with useful ameneties. Hallowell is a charming little town and I particularly recommend Scrummy Afters sweet shop and Granite City Park along the riverbank.

    Jessica2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is cute. Bed was super comfy and relaxing. The appliances are newer so no problems with those. It was very nice staying there and wouldn't mind staying again.

  • Andrea’s place is a true gem! Cozy, romantic, clean and very good and quick communication with host. We booked for just one night, but after basically setting one foot over the threshold we immediately booked another night! This house provides a home away from home. Comes with a parking space as well. We really, really loved it!

  • Perfect place for venturing out in hallowell and would highly recommend to anyone, only few minute walk to restaurants and bars. The house itself is cozy with all amenities, thoughtful touches and outdoor patio is very nice too.

  • This unit was the perfect spot for two of us to stay on our way north from Boston to Sugarloaf. The apartment was exactly as pictured, a very cozy and warm place to duck in from the cold. Check-in was seamless with a keyless entry code. There was water, seltzer, tea, and coffee there in the unit as well as essential toiletries. We were able to relax for the evening and got a solid night's sleep in the very comfortable bed before setting back out on our way. In terms of the neighborhood, the apartment is really close to highway access, which was perfect for our purposes. We also stopped at Cushnoc Brewing in the Historic River district of Augusta for delicious wood-fired pizza and beer on our way in to town, a less than 10-minute drive from the apartment. We would certainly stay here again!

  • The top floor small and tidy Studio apt was perfect for my needs. I stayed one night. The bed was comfortable and the towels were very plush! I appreciated the parking signs and signs pointing to the unit. It was nice as I checked in after dark. Smart lock was convenient. Only issue is unit is close to a busy road. Light sleepers may have an issue. I was woken up a few times during the night. Overall a great place at a fantastic price. I would stay here again.

Our home is a few minutes' drive from downtown Hallowell, which offers many restaurants and a bustling nightlife. We are also located near a rail trail entrance, which is a charming way to walk, run, or pedal your way downtown. In the warmer months, cool off in our large in-ground swimming pool. We welcome travelers of all kinds, but our cat prefers the bipedal variety (no dogs).
Our home is large and full of character. Built around 1900, it is a unique and beautiful space which we are happy to share with guests. This is a home, not a hotel. We do not provide meals, but you may use our kitchen to cook or our refrigerator to store food. Please be aware that the main bathroom is shared, as are all spaces except the bedrooms. We encourage open communication to facilitate understanding between hosts and guests, especially for longer-term stays. It never bothers us, but traffic noise from the nearby road has occasionally been noted as bothersome to certain guests.
Hallowell is a beautiful, friendly city with a robust nightlife. Live music, antique shops, and lovely architecture are some of the things you might notice about the Granite City. There are also many restaurants to choose from. Be aware that during the week, most kitchens close around 9pm. On the weekends, kitchens may be open as late as 10pm. It may help you to research different options before you arrive!
  • Belle endroit chaleureux, nous partageons l’étage avec les propriétaires et leur enfant. Un peu moins d’intimité mais très accueillant!

  • This was my second time staying at Erik and Rebecca’s House and it won’t be my last. This is one of my favorite Airbnb’s to stay at. It’s just outside of Hallowell center so it’s convenient to nightlife if that’s your thing or also quiet if you just want to relax. Thanks Guys :) I look forward to staying here again in a couple months!

    Dave2018-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Erik's place was perfect as our stopover for traveling northward to Acadia. We didn't get to spend much time with the very friendly hosts, nor did we take advantage of the amenities, but the room was spacious and bed comfortable.

    Bonnie2018-05-27T00:00:00Z

  • This bed and breakfast is really lovely, and the hosts are so friendly. Breakfast was fantastic, with an impressive menu including eggs from the chickens on the premises, pancakes with Maine blueberries, and other local items. There was a constantly-filled cookie jar and other homemade baked goods in the fridge, and an endless supply of coffee and tea. All in all, a really professionally run place with a personal touch. Highly recommended.

  • We had a wonderful stay at this B&B. You can expect comfortable rooms and bedding, a beautiful location, numerous amenities such as coffee and tea service round the clock, baked goodies, sauna and hot tub, and extremely gracious hosts. The farm is close enough to town to enjoy dinner out and several places have live music. We also hiked around nearby Jamie’s pond which was beautiful.

  • Maple hills farm Inn was beautiful, wish we had more time there. The hosts Scott and Ivan made us feel right at home, they were so nice and welcoming. Their breakfast was delicious! The homemade blueberry pancakes and fresh eggs were so GOOD! Place was clean and well kept. The views and atmosphere were so relaxing, at night my boyfriend and I stargazed. If you wanna go into town to a bar or shops, its just right down 2 minutes away. There's a bike trail in town with free parking all day. I will definitely stay here again and recommend Maple hills to friends and fam, which I already have. Thanks Scott and Ivan! =)

  • Great hosts. Lovely grounds and space. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable; ice and buckets, free cookies and other goodies in the fridge, hot tub, your name on the door, menus from local restaurants and many other touches. Breakfast was incredible!!! Many choices and everything was delicious. Highly recommend.

    Karen2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a fun place to visit for a getaway for my husband and I! We loved the local area, and especially the quiet of the AirBnB location! Nothing but the sound of the birds and wind! There were so many special touches all over the place, you could tell they had spent lots of time considering everything to make your stay as wonderful as possible! We LOVED the sauna and hot tub! But my favorite part of staying here was that it was a very scent-neutral space...everything, from linens to the air) smelled fresh and clean but without perfumes or artificial scents!!

    Mary2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfectly lovely, exactly as described. Scott and Vincent were welcoming and available (but not intrusive) and breakfast was delicious. On my walk I think I saw the hens responsible for my perfect 4-minute eggs cooked by Vincent.

    Emily2017-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Maple Hill Farm was just great! The area is so cozy and calm and the B&B is a place where you can feel like home right away! Besides your room you have access to the living room with a fire place, a kitchen with a fridge and a microwave (and very delicious muffins that you can just serve yourself of) and as a highlight there is a saune and a hot tub outside. And not to forget: the breakfast is great! Scott and Vince are really nice and warmhearted people. I highly recommend the Maple Hill !

  • Erik and his wife were nice and friendly but there was no way to eat without going out, use of a small space in their refrig but nothing in the room and only a desk but no dresser to put things away or unpack except for closet hangers. Particularly disappointed with NO TV to watch. It kept my grandson from staying there as much as he might've since it was a 45 min drive to his friend's house and nothing to do at the room. It was our first room rental, rather than a house, and we may not have known what to expect. lovely family otherwise.

Quiet upstairs suite consisting of three rooms and a half bath near downtown Hallowell. Great for small groups.
This single family home is located within walking distance of downtown Hallowell, a music/arts hub in Central Maine. Private rooms are located on the second floor and have access to a half bath. The shower is located on the first floor and is shared with the owner. The home has been recently remodeled and features hardwood floors, colorful rooms and a quiet atmosphere.
Neighborhood is on a hill, which is great for active walks, not so great if you have mobility issues. Wooded walks are available nearby at the Vaughan Estate, Jamie’s pond, and the Hallowell recreation area. The Kennebec Rail Trail is a 13 mile bike/walking loop from Gardiner to Augusta, which is accessible from downtown Hallowell.

    Laurakim2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Marcia was a wonderful host. Her place was clean, she was easy to communicate with, and she went above and beyond by cleaning our car off after it had snowed. We had a great stay!

    Jenel2019-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Marcia's place on a Thursday evening. The address provided to us was easy to find with our GPS and the instructions Marcia provided to us were clear and easy to understand. We had the entire upstairs to ourselves (three rooms and a 1/2 bathroom) so we simply picked the biggest room to stay in. It had A/C so temperature was not an issue. There was also a mini-fridge and a TV with Netflix on it, which was a bonus. The residence itself was cozy and we got to meet Marcia that evening and also before we left in the morning and had a great chat. Overall, no regrets or issues whatsoever with our stay. We would definitely be back under the right circumstances. Thank you for the accommodation!

  • Andrew and Jody's place was a delightful surprise. The check in was easy (just mind the instructions on where to park) and my particular apartment had just been renovated, so everything was new and fresh. I really appreciated the coffee and beer -- nice touches!

There were some residual smells from previous smokers. I would stay here again tho for sure! The fenced dog area was extremely convenient, too!

  • Staying at the Fairway Inn and Suites was the perfect location for my trip to Maine to be near my son's family. I waa there to welcome my new grandson into the world. The rooms are clean, nicely decorated and have a small kitchen. I was able to make meals to take to my son's home. Sheila is very nice. I also brought my dog, Bella. They have a fenced in play area for pets. Bella also had a good time.

  • This place was wonderful. The room was nicely decorated, the kitchen area was stocked with utensils and appliances, the bathroom had towels and a great shower, and the bed was very comfortable. The location was nice because it was a little secluded but within a nice driving distance for everything we wanted to visit and some yummy restaurants. Communication with Sheila & Kent was very easy and I always got a quick response. Would definitely recommend staying here.

The OLD SCHOOL HOUSE is just two blocks from downtown Hallowell, which is nicknamed the "New Orleans on the Kennebec." The city is a regional center for the arts in central Maine, with renowned art galleries, performing arts theaters, studios, festivals and local artists. Hallowell is home to renowned taverns and restaurants, with the downtown area having a high concentration of eating and drinking establishments. This is a three-bedroom SECOND floor apartment with a sweeping river view.
The space is a second floor apartment with three bedrooms, galley kitchen, full bathroom, living/dining room area with working fireplace and balcony with a great view of the Kennebec River and park. Some of the stairs to the second floor are the original 200-year old stairs that may be difficult for an elderly dog to climb. There is an uneven step due to the transition from old stairs to new stairs that meet the code, but the stair is well marked and there are makeshift handrails that will be replaced with new handrails when the stairway is finished. There is access to a complete gym in the building next door and access to complimentary bicycles and kayaks for stays of two nights or longer. The apartment has all the amenities of a five star hotel: decorative L.L. Bean furniture, fresh flowers, top of the line L.L. Bean bedding, fully equipped gym with four workout stations and personal TVs, large screen TV in the apartment with local channels and amazon prime loaded, a welcome gift and extreme cleanliness. The Old School House was the second school built in Hallowell and the first to enroll a black child in Maine. Many of the children who attended school also worked an the old cotton mill, now called Cotton Mill Apartments. The post and beam building was built by the original owners of the mill. Hallowell is two miles from the state capitol, three miles from I-295, three miles from the airport, seven miles from the Concord bus station, and six miles from the Civic Center, the University of Maine and Augusta Crossing (the mall). Complimentary laundry for stays of five nights or longer.
Hallowell is a small coastal community on a tidal river and estuary. The house is within two blocks of downtown in a quiet residential neighborhood. No steep hills to climb.
  • Andrea's place is great. The location is amazing and the view from the deck to the river is spectacular Many small touches make it a terrific place to rent. One small glitch is there are 17 steps to the apartment which is on the second floor. Andrea is fixing the steps but be cautious if you have children, an old dog or a reason to not want to carry luggage and groceries up narrow steps. Hallowell is an amazing and friendly community.

  • Excellent place to stay if you want privacy and a lot of extra room. Nice views of the river and just across the street of great kayaking on the wild and scenic Kennebec River. We loved Hallowell it’s restaurants and its night-life. Easy access to everything Maine has to offer. Andrea helped us with everything including the Kayaks. And cant wait to come back again for the fall season. Highly recommend that you stay here!

    Wil2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Andreas's place is closed to everything in downtown, is being renovated to make it even better and has a great view of the river. The beds are extremely comfortable, kitchen well stocked for anything you want to prepare, and the home has touches of when it was built while being updated in other ways making it a great mix of old and new.

    Brad2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the kayaks and bikes! The master bed was so comfy. Firm, yet soft. Perfect. Andrea also had sleeping mask and Advil. We needed both after our long day. The town was quaint. The River was relaxing.

Guests will love this cottage located a few feet from Maranacook Lake. A small private beach, private deck and patio are included in this lovely location. The lake is spring fed and is wonderful for swimming or kayaking. Inside, guests will enjoy a spacious living room with breakfast nook, screened porch, bedroom and bathroom all accessible via a private entrance. Each room boasts views of the lake, and loons can be heard while watching beautiful sunsets.
The Cottage on Maranacook Lake is surrounded by the beauty of nearby wooded hiking trails and crashing ocean waves. Live Music concerts are played every Sunday afternoon in the town park, and you can enjoy listening from the comfort of your deck.
  • Wendy was a warm and inviting host. She was very flexible and surprised us with homemade scones on our first morning which were delicious! She has a guest book with nice messages from past guests, and a very helpful manual listing nearby restaurants, hikes, etc. You occupy the basement level of her lake house, and you have your own entrance, a private deck and solarium, and some basic amenities (mini fridge, grill outside, microwave, coffee maker, etc). Being on the ground floor, you can hear the waves lapping on the shore and have a nice breeze to cool the place down. The place is very clean and well decorated, and it was a comfortable base for us to enjoy the lake from in between hikes and jaunts to restaurants. Highly recommend!

    Bryan2018-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy's place was outstanding! We felt relaxed from the moment we arrived. Wendy was quick to respond to messages if we had questions and the space had everything we needed and more. The place itself was bright and cheery and beautifully decorated and very clean. I was surprised at all of the amenities (multiple seating areas outdoors, grill, porch swing, fire pit, etc). We had planned on going out to dinner but were so happy and relaxed we stayed in and grilled. In the morning Wendy brought us homemade scones for breakfast and then we borrowed the kayaks on site and paddled for a while watching the loons catch their breakfast as well. I've stayed in Air Bnbs all over the world and this one is just so special. I can't wait to stay again!

    Amy2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy was easy to communicate with both before and during our stay. The view and access to the lake were breathtaking and the apartment was beautiful, spacious, and spotless. And the breakfast treat on the first morning was a wonderful surprise! We will definitely be back next year.

    R.P.2018-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful idyllic cottage right on the lake with your own beach, screened in porch & deck—fabulous view. Couldn’t recommend it more!

    Dencie2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy is a super nice hostess. There when you need her and leaves you to your privacy when you don't. This gem is a super comfortable, stylish, functional private space with private sandy beach, swimming, kayaks, patio, deck & fire pit. Inside offers 3 living spaces with comfortable couches, chairs and a great bed. Outside offers comfort with Adirondack chairs, eating patio, private sandy beach with breezes, shade and sun both. There is a train that goes by across the lake at 1:00am and 6:00am but after the initial "what's that?" It is easy to fall back asleep. Also, it makes you feel connected to history, and can imagine further back when they would harvest ice from near by lakes. You won't be disappointed staying here.

    Ibi2018-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious, clean and private accommodation. View from the house is great with access to a small private beach and kayaks. Wendy brought us homemade scones for the breakfast and was very helpful and quick to respond. Overall amazing place to chill

  • Highly recommended. She went above and beyond. Can’t say enough good things.

    Roy2018-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • I had an amazing stay at Wendy's lake front cottage. (Hidden by Airbnb) maps had issues finding the house, but if you just look for the house numbers on the street it's easy to find. The cottage apartment below Wendy's home was beautiful, spotless and lovingly decorated. Wendy went above and beyond providing breakfast, thoughtful details and even offering her kayaks for use on the lake. I highly recommend this airbnb, and would visit again in a heart beat.

  • Wow! We loved our stay here, it was better than expected. Shirley and Dave were friendly and outgoing. They gave us the low down on the surrounding area and where we could find the grocery store etc. It was very spacious with a private entrance and private balcony/deck. The kitchen is fully stocked with almost anything you can think of, we felt right at home, from the comfortable living space to the softest towels ever in the bathroom we were so happy with our choice to stay here. 10/10 would do again, and would definitely recommend! Just wish we could have stayed longer!

    Meredith2019-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Paradise in the countryside! I had 3 wonderful and quiet nights at Shirley and David’s place in June, very helpful and welcoming people, nice deck with sunlight and view on the meadows to relax at the end of the day, quiet place, great sleep, thoughtful organization, everything I expect from a studio apartment was there, big thumb up!

    Nathalie2019-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley and Dave were great hosts, very friendly and nice. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. Also very easy access to the main highways and very close to town if you need anything. I highly recommend “the loft”, it has private access so you can come and go as you please. We had a great stay

    Alexandra2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley is an excellent hostess. Her and her husband Dave were very friendly, and accommodating to our needs. We stayed in the efficiency apartment above the garage, called "the loft". Just a great space for a couple people. We were there just two nights so we didn't use the washer and dryer in the apartment, but the full kitchen was very convenient. My wife appreciated the ice dispenser in the full size refrigerator. Sitting area aside of the kitchen had a Large TV. A second TV in the bedroom is a nice touch. The full bathroom is not huge and doesn't have a tub, but makes good use of the space with the shower stall and a closet with the washer and dryer in there. The small deck off of the back is more than just a fire escape. Large enough for a small table and a couple of chairs to sit and enjoy the outdoors and wildlife in the morning or evening. The breakfast part of this B&B is over the top. Shirley made us feel like like we were at a restaurant by serving and attending to us, first by asking what would like and then custom making each our own meal. Starting with a fruit bowl and then a generous portion of just delicious and visually appealing breakfast plates. Then to top it all off we were made to feel like we were good friends invited over to share a breakfast together with easy conversation. Just amazing people to get to know and wonderful hosts. Definitely recommend, but please don't book it for the time we want to be there ;-).

    Tiffany2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley and Dave are great hosts. They are friendly and outgoing. The loft where we stayed was spacious and clean wit a private deck overlooking their beautiful rural property. They are close enough to Augusta for convenience, but far enough out for rural solitude. We hope fate allows us to return.

    James2019-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley’s home was very nice and quiet. She was a very welcoming host.

    Rebecca2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Super clean and quiet with everything we could need. Very comfortable bed and lots of thoughtful touches. Dave and Shirley are very friendly. We would definitely stay again.

    Michelle2019-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • We contacted Shirley late in the day of the night we wanted to stay, she communicates quickly back to us and had availability, our good luck! This apartment is the cleanest place I have ever stayed, and I travel extensively. We were so appreciative of the private layout, the new air conditioner which served the whole place very well, the clean linens, full kitchen and washer dryer (which we didn't use but surely would have for a stay longer than a few days). Shirley made us delicious breakfast and coffee and she and her husband joined us for breakfast, we are so happy to have spent time getting to know them, a gracious and friendly couple. My boyfriend's comments, "They were incredibly kind and generous people and the experience was wonderful". I have literally nothing negative to say in any capacity. You will never regret this option if you stay here.

Your own island! Who has not dreamed of having one? This little gem of an island can be yours for a week. Little Diamond Island is a 1/4 acre island located in Lake Cobbossee in West Gardiner Maine. Just 20 minutes from Augusta Please note: good housekeeping is required of everyone. No cleaning service is provided.
Little Diamond Island in Lake Cobbossee is a unique lake front vacation rental. Rustic 3 room cabin with lake views from every window. The lake is just steps away in any direction. Sandy bottom swimming areas and the lake is great for boating, canoeing, kayaking or jet skiing. Island vacationing is not for everyone. If you love camping (not the same as RV'ing) you will love this. It is a lot like camping except you have a real bed to sleep in. Rustic in nature there is no electricity or running water. We do provide a composting toilet, propane stove, refrigerator and solar campers shower. This is a peaceful spot for anyone who loves nature. Except for the occasional boat the only sounds you hear are the young osprey begging for food in the nest above the cottage and the mournful cry of the loons as they float past the island. You can see nesting osprey, pileated woodpeckers, turtles, hummingbirds and otter.
  • A special getaway for those who love Maine and being in nature. The cabin/camp is dear. The lake & birds are very beautiful.

    Sarah2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you have a camper's heart, but don't want to sleep in a tent or have your vacation spoiled by rain and also want to just once in your life have an island to yourself...here's your personal heaven on earth. We loved this sweet place. Be forewarned though, that you will need to bring water, propane, batteries, bedding, towels as well as food and all the other camping things one packs. The lake is beautiful but big, so it was choppy when we were there and as we are not spring chickens, challenging with a canoe. However, most worthwhile and wonderful. Enjoy1

    Elaine2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was a most wonderful spot. It was & is JUST our cup of tea. Thank you!

    Sarah2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful secluded spot on the lake. Unique. Fun to canoe to and from the site, and having the canoe throughout our stay was wonderful. Did a whole lot of canoeing, swimming, enjoying the lake. Would definitely return.

    Jake2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • My husband & I had a fantastic 5 night stay in Deb's cabin on the island! It was just what we were looking for - a rustic, tiny, secluded spot on the water. Having an island all to yourself is really fabulous! It was very quiet except for the sound of the water, the loons and our little osprey friends who chatted with us. Deb's directions were very easy to follow. The canoe trip from the car park is very short and easy. We had no problems with any of the propane appliances - though we did not use the propane refrigerator - we just got some ice blocks every few days and the cooler worked well for our food supply. The compost toilet also was no problem. No electricity made it the ultimate getaway to unwind. But like Deb says in her description, it's not for everyone. So if you haven't done something like this before this may not be the place to start! The lake is very large and beautiful - we did a lot of canoeing around and otherwise swam and floated in the water, read our books & played card games on the porch and enjoyed the tranquility. It was very easy to settle in and relax. We definitely plan to go back again next summer!

  • This is a Very Special Location! We’ve been here 3 times. It offers a rarely found experience with a gorgeous lake, a dear cabin & a private island with a canoe. The birds are outstanding & all of nature. It’s in a relaxed & friendly part of wonderful Maine. All of which helps the busyness of life fall away.

    Sarah2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • A sliver of heaven doesn't even scratch the surface in describing his incredibly wonderful, peaceful and rejuvenating sanctuary! It truly is camping with a bed...and mini-home. I'm extremely appreciative of Deborah's clear instructions, amenities and most importantly her generous sharing of this exquisite paradise! Every person that I mentioned this to was immediately captivated, ecstatic and a little jealous :~P Little Diamond Island is truly just that.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Exceeded expectations for a peaceful getaway. Very cozy and almost everything you might need is stocked in the cabin, incase you forgot something. Fishing was (Website hidden by Airbnb) of the best in the state. Propane fire pit was awesome. I hope to have the opportunity to return. You'll love it.

Hallowell is a small coastal community on a tidal river and estuary. The house is within two blocks of downtown in a quiet residential neighborhood. No steep hills to climb. Many walking and bicycle trails nearby. Vaughn Brook and trails is a short walk up Second Street. The carriage trails are known as "hobbitland," characterized by granite bridges, cascading waterfalls and gurgling brooks. There are also trails around Jamie Pond and the Hallowell Recreation Area where the town beach is located off the town farm road.
  • I’m not sure words do justice to how nice this location is. I selected it due to its perfect location (the perfect spot for the night before Acadia), and its amazing price. When arriving, I was relieved at the ease of check in and condition of the house, absolutely immaculate. The room had every single thing we needed and more, including bathrobes! The bed was comfortable and the view from the porch was incredible. We are already planning our way back north again, however plan on staying in Hallowell for the entire stay for we never even got to try out kayaking and bike riding in the area, or to explore all of the small shops that it has to offer! Thank you so much for everything, we will be back soon!

  • The room had anything you might imagine needing. Andrea was quick to respond to questions as well!

    Michael2019-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea’s place is TOP NOTCH!! Beautiful home, great location, amazing amenities. Cleanliness is a big deal for me so I was a little worried but from the moment I walked through the door I had to take off my shoes (just like home!) my room was spotless and Andrea was cleaning the common areas ALL the time. She was super friendly, full of recommendations but also was very respectful of personal space and my need for alone time. I could write an entire page of how lovely this home and Andrea were, I definitely will be returning!!

    Lily2019-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • Secure, cozy room in a tidy old house in a town I’ve never heard of. Sounded great and it was indeed great. Try it out

    Sampson2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • My bed was so comfortable! I arrived late and left early, so I didn’t actually get to meet Andrea. But I felt so welcomed by the extra touches that went above and beyond what I expected...the water filter, coffee, chocolate and so much more! Thanks again Andrea!

    Mary2019-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Strange little place. On a good note, Andrea clearly cares a lot about hosting and tried to add little details like chocolates and extra blankets to accommodate guests. But overall it was a very uncomfortable stay for us. Our bed is was broken so we were sleeping on a creaking slope the whole night. So we finally got to sleep on the sloped bed just to be woken up at 2am to four French men in their underwear pacing and making noise in the common room upstairs. After 2 hours of this, I ventured upstairs to ask them if they could quiet down which led to a very uncomfortable experience of me having to talk to a half naked man in the COMMON ROOM who didn’t speak English. So if you’re looking for an adventurous stay, this is the place for you. If you want a good night’s sleep, look elsewhere.

  • We greatly enjoyed our stay at Andrea’s place. Everything you could imagine that would be provided was there and she was an excellent hostess in all ways!

    Elaine2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Andreas was perfect for me. My room was cozy and had everything I needed and more. There even was a little basket with bathroom essentials and other little details that made my stay so special. This place is very well organized; every room has a letter and the towels have the same letter. In the kitchen, the pantry and the fridge, the spaces are labeled with the corresponding letter so you know where to store your goods. It’s so clever. I loved it!

    Lilia2019-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Come for the great location and amenities, but not for rest. I would not recommend for light sleepers, as the floors are squeaky, so if anyone moves inside the house, you can hear it. Otherwise the room had everything I needed and I had my privacy when I wanted.

    Éric2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great space! Room D had almost every amenity you could think of and is very well decorated. Great location and excellent value - what more could you ask for?

    Steven2019-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea ended up having to upgrade us to a different space. she did this without hesitation when she realized she wouldnt be able to get our room ready in time. everything was perfect. the accomodations , the town, the bike trail, the restaurant! all in all a great stay.

    Alison2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic! Everything was great about it. Seriously, just stay here for the place itself. (The town is also cute and comes to life at night)

    Schaeffer2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beds were comfortable and bath towels were plush. Lots of sweet, thoughtful amenities make it a very welcoming stay. Beds in room D are comfortable, but one is a trundle that has to be pulled out. Would definitely stay there again!

A beautiful home, a quiet respite in the woods. A short walk to Maranacook Lake with great swimming, fishing and a canoe for your use. Relax to the calls of the loons and owls from the hot tub amidst the beautiful landscaping and towering pines. All the amenities of home and more.
Ours is a newer, 1200ft2, 3 bedroom home within a short walk to Maranacook Lake. Open layout, granite counters, cherry cabinets, cherry and leather furniture, full basement, 2.5 baths, hot tub on the deck, bamboo flooring, beautiful landscaping, huge white pines and red oaks. Expect quiet, no sounds of traffic..owls in the winter, loons in the summer. There are three swimming spots a three minute walk away, and a great public boat landing 1/2 mile away. In summer you can use the canoe. Sugarloaf and Sunday River are 1.25 hours away, and three of the top 100 public courses in the US are close by, one just 20 minutes. You can't beat the biking. There's a wonderful, eclectic restaurant in town, with great food and drinks, live music and no cover most nights. Your'e 15 minutes from Augusta, the state capital, with shops, restaurants and entertainment. You're 15 minutes from Monmouth Theater, one of the most recognized summer theaters in New England. We look forward to seeing you.
This is a community of year round and summer folks with a laid back, lakeside style yet close to the state capital, great food, hiking, lake swimming, breweries, winter sports and summer concerts. My favorite is the hot tub at night with the loons and the owls calling in the distance. Folks seem to appreciate the functional elegance of the house, the landscaping, access to the lake for swimming and the sense of privacy.... Still with a community nearby.
  • We traveled to the Belgrade Lakes area with my elderly parents to track down our ancestors since my great grandfather grew up there. Joe’s house was so comfortable, especially the master bedroom with the skylight and birds at the feeders right outside the window. Joe left us good instructions for everything and a bottle of wine on the counter. His responses to my texts were always lightning fast also. On our last day of our travels out & about my mom ended up breaking her hip - and when Joe heard about this (he was himself on a trip) - he was so incredibly gracious , even offering for us to stay a few more days as his guest even though he was coming home - he restored my faith in humanity. I’m sorry I didn’t meet Joe this time but I wouldn’t hesitate to stay in this classsy forest home again.

  • We had a great time at Joe's house. He welcomed us personally and had everything ready to welcome us. We were traveling with our 2 kids (2 and 4 yo) and my in-laws and the house was just perfect for us (3 bedrooms). The house is perfectly equipped and spotless. The terrasse, patio and barbecue allowed us to hang out and enjoy the nice weather. It is located closed to a lake and about 10 minutes from a supermarket. We warmly recommend you to spend some time in Joe's home

  • lovely stay in a beautiful area. nice to have fridge in the room. wonderful hosts with lots of local suggestions that allowed us to maximize exploration of the surrounding area based on our interests. yummy breakfast. • Beautiful country setting. Shirley & Dave are incredibly friendly and thoughtful hosts. I am a very fussy eater and they went the extra mile to endure there was something I like for breakfast every morning. The room was clean and exactly as described. I will certainly look them up again the next time we vacation in the area and I recommend them highly to others looking for a clean, quiet, friendly experience.
