Au programme
Spend a morning or afternoon delighting all five of your senses during a curated art & food walk with local art expert and event curator, Alexandra Harper. You will take in the unique sights, sounds and tastes that make the Lower East Side such a rich and amazing neighborhood, with a focus on female-owned & run businesses. You will see some of the best visual art in the city, both indoors and out (weather dependent), munch on unique savory snacks and end with some sweet treats sure to satisfy your sugar cravings.
The walk focuses on the themes of change, creativity and diversity that make this neighborhood (and city) the unique place that it is. I will introduce you to 6-7 hidden and unique LES spots, including 2-3 off-the-beaten-path galleries, 1 coffee shop and 2 snack stops (at least 1 savory and 1 sweet), meeting the proprietors at each.
This is a great opportunity to take a deep dive into one of NYC's most diverse and fascinating neighborhoods, learn about its history and meet new friends along the way. You will also have the chance to join for a group brunch at the end of the tour (not included in trip price).

Other things to note
We will be standing and will walk about 1 mile, so please wear comfortable shoes and bring layers for the changeable NYC weather. Please inform me of any preferences and food allergies in advance.

I am a Graphic Designer, arts enthusiast, culture vulture and foodie who believes that the arts, in all of their many forms, are the lifeblood of NYC. Originally from a small town in Vermont, I have spent the past 15 years exploring every nook and cranny of this amazing city and have compiled a roster of diverse and artful experiences which provide both locals and visitors alike a unique perspective of the Big Apple.
In the past three years, I have curated and produced over 100 arts-based experiences in NYC through my company, Women of Culture. I have a passion for community-building, meeting new people and sharing this city with others.
My design eye, elevated aesthetic, thirst for uniqueness and sophisticated palette make me a discerning critic, and I will help you discover only the best of what NYC has to offer!

We saw a variety of specialty foods at the markets, along with beautiful street arts and a few nice galleries in LES. The neighborhood has gone through a lot of changes and became more and more exciting. Alexandra did a great job in organizing, so the manager introduced the themes, artists and stories behind the exhibitions. It was fun to hang out and meet new friends!

It was great to meet local people interested in art and food and to see the street art and several galleries. The area - East Village we toured through is wonderful and full of great restaurants and small galleries. Overall we enjoyed this introduction to this area, which we consider is one of the most interesting and colourful in New York.

I really enjoyed this walking tour through a part of the city I know relatively little about but got to appreciate through a different set of eyes and got to know intimately bc of Alex’s knowledge, history and love for all the different aspects of the LES (street art, galleries, food shops, tenement buildings & quaint historical facts, community events and thriving neighborhood vibe) which make it a special place and is now one of my favorite spots in nyc. I already signed up for December’s tour and I CAN’t wait!

I can’t even begin to describe how amazing this tour with Alexandra was. I remember telling her (before we started the tour) 3 hours seemed like a long time. Actually, I felt sad after those 3 hours. I could have easily listened to her for a whole day. It wasn’t my first time in NYC and especially not in the Lower East Side since that’s my favorite neighbourhood. But she knew so much about everything. You learn so much. It’s just such an amazing experience. Even locals would appreciate this so much. Would recommend for everyone! Alexandra is an amazing woman with a lot of knowledge and a really ‘artistic mind’ which I love. Thank you for everything!
