Au programme

We'll meet at the Historic 'Jewel of the Missions' to tour the beautifully flowered grounds. I'll show you its venerated chapel - where Father Serra, founder of the California Missions - conducted Mass; and then the graveyard holding victims of the 1812 earthquake that collapsed the great basilica one Sunday morning.
Then we'll go on a walking tour of this 250 year old Spanish town, famous for the Swallows that return each Spring and I'll tell you tales of pirates, ghosts and Zorro too. And I’ll be happy to offer Tips on where to best Shop and Eat. I’ll even show you where President Nixon dined on his favorite Mexican dishes while staying at his nearby 'Western White House'; as well as the historic Santa Fe train Depot.
Then we'll go on to a venerable, but nearly hidden, historic neighborhood - the oldest in California - where you’ll see ancient adobes and giant century-old succulents ; and its Arts and Crafts shopping lane with its much loved tea house (where women wear Victorian hats on Sunday) and a celebrity Chef’s rustic patio restaurant (also his home). A petting zoo you may want to visit is also tucked away nearby.
Other things to note
1) This tour is for 2 to 6 people.
2) Optional Tour Times: If a better time fits, message me and I’ll try to accommodate you.
3) All street and parking lots are free in San Juan Capistrano .
4) I also give a walking tour of nearby ‘Laguna Beach and It’s Hidden Beaches’. Check out my listing!

I'm a 25 year local resident and enthusiastic advocate of San Juan Capistrano with its captivating legends and stories of Old Town and the beautiful 'Jewel of the Missions'. A retired attorney and writer I have traveled extensively and written city and walking guides (including the official Newspaper Assn of America's annual meeting expo city guide). I have also taught seminars and courses. As an AirBnb Host since 2014 I have enjoyed favorable reviews from Guests from around the World for my tips and 'must see' of our unique area.

The beautiful Mission and its surrounding Old Town were really unique and fascinating. AJ was a great guide with his stories and history; even pointing out places to shop and eat. I would highly recommend this tour. Loved the old Santa Fe train depot!
