Au programme
We will pick you and your friends up at an agreed-upon location, usually your accommodation in Bonn or at the train station if you are coming in from Cologne or elsewhere. You’ll board our beautiful 1965 VW Samba bus and take a seat on one of the 2 passenger benches. As we drive towards the Rhine River we’ll do a round of introductions and talk about the day’s program. Over the next hours you will enjoy everything that the Rhine Valley has to offer including steep vineyards, ancient ruins, medieval castles, quaint houses, rustic wine taverns and the mighty Rhine river. We will make frequent stops to take memorable photos, to drink and to see and learn German history up close.
But that’s not all, because a significant aspect to this tour is the vehicle itself. Our VWSamba65 is lovingly restored and it is a feast for the eyes and the touch: the cream-coloured leather, the chrome detailing, the 23 windows that surround you and allow you to really take in the sites from all directions. And if weather allows, the retractable roof will be wide open giving you a glimpse of the tops of the Siebengebirge and other small mountains. And then there’s the sound! There is no mistaking the brrrmmm brrrmmm of an old engine, along with the slight grinding of the gears and the 60s music (or music of your choice) playing from 4 Bose (got to be German of course!) speakers. It’s pure retro romanc
Other things to note
We are happy to share our knowledge of Bonn, the Rhine valley, the historical buildings and the history of wine making with you and your friends. Since Roman times, more than 2000 years ago, this part of Germany has been a busy place for trade and culture!
