Au programme

We will go on a hike to the Maraithu Curtain Waterfall which is located about 40 minutes from the Semantan MRT station. This is a gorge type waterfall of about 1m drop with a deep (more than 4m deep) plunge. The forefront of the waterfall which is the deep area is rocky and narrow but there is a nice sandy bank at the eddy area after it widens out with some beautiful old hardwood trees that lean over the river (see root pictures). Gorge type means this waterfall has a nice curtain and it is typically possible to get behind the curtain of water. Please browse the pictures to get an idea of exactly what the waterfall looks like. The path to the waterfall is about 500m of tarmaced and paved path and then 1km of jungle trail along the river. It is fed by the Sungai Rengau river which originates in the Titiwangsa mountain range. The trail is typically comfortable and clear and doesn't require crawling or wading. Normally, there aren't any leeches on this part of the trail. The distance from the trailhead to the waterfall is about 1.5km meaning the total distance of this hike is about 3km. After the hike, if you feel hungry, I can show you some of my favorite vegetarian Tamil foodspots in KL Sentral.
Other things to note
We'll meet at Gate A, Semantan MRT station. After the hike, there is a restroom at the trailhead and it is normally open. It will likely be possible to shower and change for a comfortable trip back, so you can bring a change of clothing and a towel.

I have over 20 years experience taking guests to mountain summits, historical points in jungles, and especially to waterfalls. I grew up in the jungles of Northern Perak and now live in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. I love to guide and teach others about the plants and animals of these beautiful trails, especially during fruit season when the trails are buzzing with activity. These waterfalls and summit trails are Malaysia's true natural treasures that I wish everyone in the world gets a chance to experience. I hope to help you have a great experience.

Destinations

Maraithu Falls is about 40 minutes from KL Sentral and is located in the Gombak-Selayang Forest Reserve. Luckily, this forest reserve is still pristine and the waterfall is clear and beautiful. We will hike from the trailhead through laterite trails surrounded by genuine rainforest up to the waterfall and then return using the same trail to the trailhead. Once we're cleaned up, we can head back to KL Sentral or Semantan MRT.
