Ever wondered why so many Irish people ended up in the US, Canada or Australia and where the intense rivalry between Ireland and England comes from? Want to know why they call Dublin the 'Sillicon Valley' of Europe?

Join me on this private discovery of Dublins past and present. From the Famine in 1845 to the financial meltdown in 2009.

We start at the Spire and the GPO, towards Liberty Hall and pass Custom House before visiting the Famine memorial and passing by the museum of Irish emigration.

From there we explore the IFSC, where I will tell you what caused the 'big recession' of 2008 and how the city kickstarted a housing shortage seemingly overnight.

After meeting Jeannie Johnston, we set sail for Grand Canal Dock, where some of the worlds biggest tech companies have their headquarters.

We check in at Facebook, while I explain why so many tech companies came to Dublin in the first place, and if the daily life at Google is really like in the Hollywood movie The Intern.

After our visit to the San Francisco of Europe, we take a rest outside with a coffee from a Dubliner who won the Worlds Best Barista competition.

After this pitstop, where you can ask my any question you want, we continue towards the Dead Zoo, while I talk about Gaelic Football, Hurling and Rugby. We end the tour in front of Trinity College (but we cannot visit because of Covid 19).
Other things to note
What about toilets?
We pass free toilets after approx. 45 minutes and you can also go to the toilet at the coffee shop after about 2 hours.

The tour is fully flat, apart from 2 bridges with a very mild curve.

Please be aware we do NOT visit the Epic Museum itself or the Trinity Library.

I arrived in Ireland in 2008, working for Google, Apple and Facebook, before I decided to ditch my deskjob and follow my passion to work in Tourism.

I decided to start my own company in 2015; Dublin in Dutch. Because of high demand, I quickly expanded into doing English tours as well.

Through my work experiences, and my Journalism degree, I can tell you what it’s really like to work for a big IT company while living in Irelands only big city.

Sharing my passion for history, I can also tell you how Ireland went from being very poor to very rich.

With the free tours becoming overcrowded, I noticed that more and more people want an intimate experience where they really get to know their guide. That is why all my experiences have a MAXIMUM OF 6 persons, so there is enough space to keep the social distancing!

Destinations

On this private tour, we will visit Custom House, EPIC, the IFSC, Grand Canal Dock, The three Sisters, the former HQ of U2, Googletown, Trinity College...

If there is something in the neighbourhood that you really want to visit, let me know at the start and we might be able to alter the route and include it in the tour!

Also, if you feel you need an extra pitstop, we can do that too!

We are so happy that we did the walking tour with Ben. It was so informative, we had no questions left. We could ask everything and he knew everything! Super friendly and welcoming, even that we were a few minutes too late! Would totally recommend!!

It was a really pleasant experience! Ben was really knowledgeable and told us many interesting stories!! It was not the typical history tour which can get slightly boring, Ben managed to keep us entertained with many different topics. He also personalized the tour slightly which was nice since it was just two of us and him so we were really able to ask all the questions we wanted. Great job Ben!

A wonderful tour! As I work for a large IT company, the Docklands were especially fascinating for me. Ben told a lot of interesting stories and I could have walked together with him for many more hours. If you are interested in technology *and* want to learn something about Ireland's history at the same time: Book this tour. Do not hesitate.

Ben's experience was very interesting, he know a lot about Dublin's past and present. He can adapt the tour to what you already know and is very open to suggestions and expectations.
