Our story begins in the enclave of Little India. We will dive into the story of its community with local Indian and Indian-Muslim dishes. You will discover its untold tale: of migrants and convicts, intrigue and politics as we trace the foundations of a fledgling city.

Next, the story takes us to the turn of the 20th century. Delicious Chinese, Nyonya and other dishes become the backdrop as we explore the rise of trade and merchants, the advent the World Wars and the ways that this city and its people have been changed forever.

Each dish, sight and landmark will become to you another page in the poignant, powerful and ongoing story of George Town. And you will take from your experience a truly unique insight of this place.

Penang, my hometown, has a special place in my heart. I've spent the last few years working in the arts and volunteering. In that time, I've become interested in the question of identity - Who are we? What makes us who we are? How has migration, colonisation and war shaped us? To my surprise, I found some of the answers in food. I believe that the story of George Town is written in eclectic flavours, our Heritage on a Plate.

Destinations

We will begin in Little India, because it is a crucial but oft-forgotten part of our history. From there, we will explore the surrounding area and trace the socio-political lines that coalesced to shape George Town and its community. Next we'll explore the story of trade and entrepot in the mercantile quarter, before ending our journey in the present with, of course, dessert.

My partner and I really enjoyed this experience! Everything we tried was completely new to us, and very delicious. Danny is a very knowledgeable guide, and told us stories that we never would have otherwise known. He was very friendly and welcoming and gave us great tips for the rest of our stay. This is one of the best tours - if not the best - Danny is an amazing guide. He is considerate, charismatic, and passionate, and a wonderful storyteller. I learned so much about the local history and food from him. I was so grateful to have his local knowledge and insight! And the food and drinks were delicious.
