Au programme

We'll meet up outside Bucks T-4 along highway 191, make sure we have everything for our trip and then we'll head South to the World's first National Park where we'll find some fun and secluded skiing for the group. The area is about a 30 minute drive south of Big Sky. NOTE: TRANSPORTATION WILL NOT BE PROVIDED

Skiing the cold snow in the depths of Yellowstone should be on your bucket list! I've guided in Yellowstone for a decade and will orient everyone while we get geared up. We will then check the snow conditions, go over safety protocol and choose the best zone for the day. I specialize in teaching intermediate ski technique and was formerly a ski instructor in the area. The approach to the backcountry skiing zone is short, and we will quickly be gaining elevation on the skin track. Depending on the group and the snow we will make a few laps in the area. If the weather is nice we can aim to have lunch on top of the mountain with vast views of the interior of Yellowstone National Park. After lunch and a few interpretive moments we will ski a bit more before heading back to the car. After skiing I will recommend a few aprés spots to best reward our trips efforts.
Other things to note
It is difficult to predict the weather here and it is better to be over-prepared with clothing than be cold. Good fitness is required, backcountry skiing takes a lot of energy and we are at altitude.

I have utilized Big Sky as my home base to train for ski trips and expeditions all over the world. From month long sailing accessed ski expeditions in Canada, to skinning high in the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia, to Patagonia Argentina, skiing is where I shine. Of all the places I have played in the snow, my backyard is still my favorite. I know the Northern Rockies well, I have guided in them for the last 10 years and I am certified with the American Avalanche Association, a Wilderness First Responder, and I hold instruction cards from the Professional Ski Instructors of America.

Destinations

Yellowstone is the World's first National Park and skiing it is a special experience. However, because of its isolation and intimidation of being extreme very few venture into its untracked mountains. As a mountain guide of the area I will take you to where few have visited, and where the snow is almost always good. A place of true wonder, ski amongst the menagerie of wildlife, captivating mountains, and endless wilderness.
