Au programme
Often referred to as the cultural jewel of San Diego, Balboa Park is one of the more popular places for visitors to explore, but many rush from one thing to the next. We're going to slow down and dive deep into the nooks and crannies of the park, discovering architectural details, delightful gardens, and cultural treasures most guests pass by. There's an Instagram-able spot around every corner!
We'll start at the western end of the park and cross Cabrillo Bridge, entering the park as VIPs did at the beginning of the Panama-California Exposition. We'll zigzag our way along the Prado, the heart of the central mesa, taking in the shear beauty of the place. Specifically we'll:
-Learn about the early 20th-century expositions that shaped Balboa Park
-Find the best spots to photograph Balboa Park’s beautiful Spanish colonial revival architecture
- Discover how the park was formed 150 years ago, and how city leaders have used it to promote San Diego ever since
- See where the Navy marched and nudists lounged in the early 20th century
- Explore plant and tree filled gardens and a sculpture courtyard hiding in plain sight
- Enjoy a beverage at a locally owned and operated coffee cart
Other things to note
This is a walking tour - we'll cover less than 2 miles but will be on our feet most of the time. Tour ends 10 minutes away from where it begins.

I’m a native to San Diego and a professional tour guide here since 2002. I've led different types of tours but my favorite - walking tours - led me to own & operate San Diego Urban Adventures since 2017.
I'm a passionate local who loves to show off our beautiful city while meeting people from all over the world – that’s you! I know the city in a way guide books don't, and want you to see Balboa Park through my eyes. Have a question about the park, or the city, or recommend our favorite craft beer or taco shop? Join me!

Our tour of Balboa park couldn't have gone any better than the experience provided by Jennifer. Her wonderfully curated tour with a lovely combination of historical context, chronology, anecdotes and connective webbing of information made for a day full of storytelling and quite honestly put us in a state of childlike wonder. If you're a curious person who enjoys venturing back in time, this is definitely the tour for you. We'll be bringing our family next time we make our back to San Diego!

Jen was a gem. She was personable and funny. As a solo female traveller, I felt comfortable and accepted during my time with Jen. She pointed out all of the hidden treasure spots with in the park and even gave me recommendations on great places to eat and visit after the tour. Learning about the history of the park, the buildings, and the gardens made me appreciate this amazing place even more.

Alyssa was very knowledgeable about the buildings, plazas and statuary in Balboa Park. The sequence of the stops seemed perfect as well. Overall , it was a very good perspective on the beginnings, middle and present of the park. The length was good, too. Any longer and it would be overload. Also appreciated the enthusiasm of Alyssa and her mindfulness of the people in the group.

Elizabeth was our host for the walking tour- she was friendly and made the tour interesting and informative. We made a connection, since she had visited where we were from, and that helped us get to know San Diego better, in addition to learning about Balboa Park. She also had good advice on other places to see in San Diego

I AM SO SO THANKFUL!
This was the most hospitable and well designed tour company I have ever worked with.
If you want an immersive and intentionally choreographed tour of balboa park, please consider this company.
Our tour was scheduled but it winded you raining and we had someone in our group who needed the tour to be as accessible as possible because they live with a disability.
This tour company went above and beyond. Not only did they work with our schedules to reschedule and find a day that wasn’t raining, they also adapted their tour so that our friends who live with disabilities could enjoy it more fully.
Jen and Friends definitely know what hospitality is about. Highly recommend.
