*Fantastic Dublin you become informed about the history the architecture the hidden secrets and you feel the energy of the streets and it touches your heart.* REVIEW

We will begin on Henrietta St, the first Dublin Georgian street built and examine the Grandeur of these 1700's mansions. Dublin was wealthy and considered the second City of the old British Empire. The parliament closed in Dublin in 1801 then these fine houses fell into decline. From one family in the house a whole family had one room. Who tried to alleviate the hardship of famine refugees or profit by it?

A home for many is an apartment but in the past many people lived communally in Convents, Abbeys and laundries and we will see a convent which was the home of a developer.

Green St Courthouse has a fascinating and varied history, the trials people faced, when there was no CCTV or forensics with swift trials & transportation or worse.

The Dublin Fruit and Veg Markets built 1892 for sellers to be out of the cold it is a vast and beautiful building where many tenement women worked.

We will cross the Liffey to see Medieval Fishamble St birthplace of Molly Malone. Winetavern St was the Viking core and find Tavern Tokens!

We will finish at a spying pub where information was gathered during the War of Independence by Michael Collins to organise Bloody Sunday. Intelligence was our key to success.

I love Dublin and want to show my City, how complex and beautiful it is. I have been a Tour Guide since 2010 and have worked on many of the government sites from the Phoenix Park to private houses like Castletown House.

It is brilliant meeting people from all over the world and having the opportunity to tell everyone about my City. I have developed an interest and narrative of homes in Dublin and want to share this with you. The home is a personal place now but historically many people lived their lives in communally. 1700s Dubliners would have their curtains wide open so passers by could see their important guests.

This tour gives you a public and private view of homes through the ages, from the 1700's to the dark ages and onto modern times. The location changes but the feeling is the same, safe, relaxed and at home. Hope you enjoy!

Destinations

We will begin the tour on Henrietta Street one of the finest 1700's Streets to be constructed in Dublin and the first.

We will then pass an old Jail and Courthouse. The building was used for Special Criminal Cases in the Troubles. It still hears trials and also houses film crews for costume drama.

Then we will visit the purpose built Victorian food Markets. Onto the Ruins of an Abbey, the Viking and Medieval Core and onto present day Dublin....

This was a great and interesting tour and I would thoroughly recommend it. I am a Dublin native and had a family member visiting. There were many things I learned and some fascinating insights into this wonderful city. It was especially interesting to absorb the history through the architecture. Ruth was a great guide, very friendly, funny and knowledgeable on the subject. 10/10

The tour with Ruth is amazing. She's cultured and sensitive, professional yet funny, a very elegant woman and down to earth at the same time. She's got the ability to outline the main historical events connecting them through "little" details and focus on the material life of human people of the past centuries, blending architectural, political, business, legal and geographical stories to form an exhaustive picture. It's an experience that leaves you with the awareness you've been truly welcomed as a guest in this beautiful country.

Ruth’s fun and informative walking tour is a great way to learn more about the history of Dublin and its people. Ruth has a deep knowledge of Dublin’s history and a very engaging way of telling it. She clearly has a deep love for her city.
