Au programme
Two English classics come together in this workshop and teatime with London’s leading taxidermist, Suzette Field.
You’ll learn the art and science of preparing, preserving, and mounting—all the basics of taxidermy. Then, you’ll try it yourself (don’t worry, all the subjects have been ethically sourced—reptile food, pest control or roadkill). Choose to leave your handiwork au naturel or dress it up to create a souvenir worthy of a prime spot on your mantlepiece.
Students will have a choice between mouse, rat, guinea pig or mole.
COVID-19 UPDATE - Classes are now running and are Covid-19 secure. They are now limited to 2 individuals or 2 groups of people from shared households in order to remain Covid-19 secure. Lunch will also no longer be included until we feel it is safe to do so.
Other things to note
If you live outside the UK, you'll still be able to take your taxidermy creation home with you. We'll provide you with a certificate to show to customs, or mail your souvenir to your home address.

I’ve been a taxidermist and teacher for over 10 years, and I currently bring a fine art perspective to this work.
It might surprise you to know that I’m a vegetarian, and I only use animals that are ethically sourced. It’s my way of connecting with the natural world and appreciating these everyday, but fascinating creatures.

I had a brilliant day learning to stuff a mouse. Suzette was really friendly, she welcomed me by saying “Would you like to meet your mouse”, which instantly put me at my ease and made me smile. Suzette was incredibly helpful and patient, even though I asked a lot of questions. I never felt rushed and was very happy with my little mouse at the end of the lesson. I would highly recommend it, an unusual but rewarding and fascinating experience. I would love to do it again.

This is a unique chance to make a real taxidermy piece. Suzette's expert guidance ensured that even though we have never done anything like this before we came away with great pieces that we are proud of. Doing some preparation before the event like deciding how we would like to mount them and making some props made for better results too. I would recommend this to all who enjoy making things and are not afraid of pealing a dead rat!
