Au programme

Just for now this tour is suspended and once it is safe we will be delighted to welcome you back.

We will walk beautiful Dublin streets and visit curious 1700's sites. Transport was slow and wit was quick! Dublin was a hotbed of intrigue and the Second City in the old British Empire. Yet it was difficult to find the action with censorship.

Coffee Houses were where the news was printed! Known as penny universities, centres of commerce and trade where so much of Dublin life was lived.

We will stroll for an hour stopping at significant points where duels were fought, merchants traded, information was exchanged and coffee was drunk. Was there tea & chocolate? We will immerse ourselves in the characters such as Johnathon Swift and how he got into hot water with the drapers.

We will learn about the people who published, auctions which were held and lives which were lived by the new rich of 1700's Dublin. We will see how they influenced the arts, public thinking and trade. We will have quotes and drama to understand the players in a very different time.

This is fun and light-hearted Tour with a Coffee Tasting Experience to imagine what 1700's Dublin felt, looked, smelled and tasted with lots of sweet treats.

For tea lover we have a 1700s tea party, with silver pots & china cups.

I have been a Tour Guide since 2010 beginning the journey at Castletown House a fine example of Palladian Mansion. Then onto Farmleigh House, a former Guinness Home and a fantastic, free place to visit beside the Phoenix Park. From there Áras an Uachtaráin the President's home beckoned. I worked on Hop on Hop Off bus tours and out of town locations including Wicklow, Howth and Galway. It's been brilliant meeting people from all over the world and having the opportunity to tell about my City. I have developed an interest and narrative about life in 1700's Dublin Coffee Houses and want to share this with you. If you are a tea lover we will discuss who drank tea, where it was consumed and how much fun a tea party could be!

City Hall is a beautiful 1700's building which was constructed for merchants to trade in and was the origin of Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Dublin Stock Exchange.

Dublin Castle was the centre of 1700's Social Life.

Fishamble St was the home to a music hall and a Coffee House which printed books as well as news sheets. It was a busy spot close to the old port and fishsellers

We will see a 1600s Theatre, Medieval Walls & a 1700s Coffee House

A unique & interesting experience! Despite being a Dublin native, I had never heard anything before about the history & significance of coffee houses in Dublin. So I really enjoyed learning new things about my home city, met some lovely people and enjoyed tasting some different coffees :)

It was one of the greatest experience we have ever had. Ruth was so kind and explained everything so well that we left thinking about doing another tour with her. Every time we drink coffee now we remember her stories! We live in Dublin for over 3 years and the tour completely changed how we see the city. Fantastic experience! Highly recommended!!

Easily can say this was one of the best tours I’ve taken on Airbnb. Insightful, entertaining, and overall fun. She was bubbly is the best possible way. Learn about the city and end it with some great cups of coffee.

The tour was extremely interesting and we learned a lot about Irish coffee and tea culture. We especially enjoyed the tea tasting and snacks at the end. Thank you, Ruth, for the wonderful evening!

Ruth was a charismatic host! Really enjoyed this tour and isight into Irish history and the importance of the coffee houses. The secret location and performance of the coffees by Ruth was the real highlight of the tour though for me.
