Au programme

Summer 2021
For everyone's safety, we have decided to only host outdoors in private groups of 2 or more (family/couple).

Our experience begins at a traditional Dalmatian Konoba (Croatian for tavern) As our meeting point .

From here we will hike a trail that takes us through family groves to the acreage where our small batch, family brand of olive oil: Pipa evoo is produced. Along the way we will discuss all things local, historical, and agriculture.

You will see first hand how we raise the trees and olive fruit with the most natural and organic means possible, including our flock of sheep and chickens. Experience a tasting of this year's harvest - our limited 2020 reserve. Learn about the quality, health benefits, and tasting of olive oil under the tree canopies that produce this miracle fruit.

Finally we return to the little village of Mirca by way of the same trail. This time we descend with our favourite incredible view; meeting back at the Konoba to enjoy the olive oil over a full coursed authentic meal. While the tour is scheduled for 3 hours, many guests take their time; staying longer to savour the food and enjoy the ambiance of the Konoba.

Other things to note
The steep incline + elevation of the island make this a physical activity.
Be prepared for hot or cool (open elevated area) conditions.
WC facilitates are only available at the meetile

Born in Canada, I have decided to return home to Croatia to the land of my family, leaving behind a career and western status, to lead a more simple and sustainable lifestyle. Along with my wife, we have spent the last two years completely immersed, revitalizing and regenerating the olive orchards that I have inherited. We find great joy in teaching our children and others about the rewarding experience of living as close to earth as possible in a modern world.

Destinations

Our meeting point is a traditional konoba in the little village of Mirca, located a few min. drive outside the main port town of Supetar, Island Brač. Brač is a wonderful island for an extended vacation, but can also be reached from Split by a 50 minute ferry for a short day trip or an overnight experience. Our ecological and sustainable olive grove is reached by trail; approx. 20 min/2km hike from Mirca.

We really enjoyed our olive grove tour, tasting and traditional meal at a local Konoba. Mariano and Crystal were extremely warm and welcoming, passionate about olive oil, and about taking an approach to life and oil production that is in tune with the environment. The olive grove is a stunning location, and it was fascinating to learn about its past and hopes for the future. The following meal, wine, local liqueurs and easy conversation was great and it’s wonderful to see the couple working cooperatively with other local small businesses. We were delighted to be able to buy the very last bottles of their first year’s production since regenerating the Mariano’s family grove. An excellent experience and great value for money.

What lovely hosts Mariano and Crystal were! I was the only person attending, so I got their full attention. Both spoke with such passion of their land, their animals, their family history, and the island. The oil tasted superbly and the lunch was rich and wonderful. Also: Do not forget try some of the home-made liquors at the konoba (tavern)!

We had a lovely morning with Marijano and Crystal. Right from the start they were helpful, with advice about how to get to the meet-up point from the ferry (we had come over to Brac from Split). We enjoyed a pleasant walk up from the village of Mirca to the olive groves with Marijano explaining about the local area and the family’s decision to return to Croatia and a very different way of life. Crystal gave us an olive oil tasting (100% ecological and gorgeous-tasting) before our tour of the olive fields and meeting the sheep and the hens. It was hot there (wonderful when you live in the north of England!) but we’d come prepared and there was shade from the olive trees when necessary. Lunch back at Mirca village was local ingredients cooked by Vlado, again delicious. We were made to feel so welcome and very much enjoyed this insight into the Croatian way of life. We feel privileged to have shared for a few hours the dream that Marijano and Crystal, through their hard work and vision, are making a reality.

The best thing to do on Brac! When you get tired of the beach scene and the tourist circuit, get yourself to Mariano & Crystal’s beautiful organic olive farm. They are so welcoming and their story is amazing- we learned about how family farmers on the island are connecting to ancient agricultural traditions and developing new ways of living in right relationship with the land. After a fun and informative short hike with Mariano, Crystal lead us through a fabulous olive oil tasting among the trees, with fresh fruit and more family stories. And a photo shoot! A million wild flowers were blooming and there are breathtaking views of the sea. After the tasting we shared a gourmet lunch under an arbor and drank entirely too much local white wine. We left feeling like Mariano and Crystal were friends. Highly highly recommend this tour!

Awesome immersive cultural experience! A definite highlight during our stay in Croatia. We had a great time learning about Mariano’s family story, the history of olive oil production on the island and the biodynamic organic process in which their family produces their oil today. Mariano even offered a demonstration on taking care of the olive trees and everyone had an opportunity to participate, which was pretty cool! The oil was delicious as well! Never knew it could taste this good. The hike up was active, so come prepared to get your heart rate up a bit!

My husband and I loved our tour. Seeing the little village of Mirca and getting a bit of a history lesson from a local was wonderful. The hike up was physical but it was a cool day, so it was just perfect. I didn’t notice how spectacular the views were on the walk until we walked back- it was such a clear day and it was truly breathtaking. The story of Mariano’s family land and seeing the work they have done to revitalize it made it feel like a privilege to be there and see a part of their journey. It was cool to learn about how these two made their way here from Canada to commit to a sustainable lifestyle and producing high quality EVOO. Thanks for sharing your story, your land, and your delicious oil!
