Au programme

We will start with the Prague Castle and the Cathedral- textbook of architecture and Czech history. Next we will visit the church of St. Nicholas, a pearl of Baroque art, example of the wealth and power of the Jesuits. Then we will cross the Charles Bridge, great example of mediaeval engineering and an open air sculpture gallery. At the end we will admire the Astrological clock and the surrounding architecture of the Old Town square. During the walk I will explain the differences between the styles (medieval, baroque, modern, communist...), history and importance of the sites and how the important characters (Charles IV, Jan Hus, Václav Havel...) helped shaping the city. During our walk we may stop for a coffee, beer or lunch and I may point out interesting places to eat or recommend interesting sites both inside and outside the city. The walk may take about 3 hours. I will do my best to create friendly atmosphere so that everyone enjoys our time together and learns something new about the city. Of course we may adjust the walk according to the wishes, tastes and preferences of the client.
Other things to note
Bring comfortable shoes - Prague is mostly cobble stones. Bring water, umbrella in case of rain - watch the weather forecast. Bring some money for the entrance fees.

I live in Prague for more than 30 years. I love the city and I always wanted to learn and understand how the history and people shaped it to what we can see today. I studied art history and now I teach and lead guided walks for more than 5 years. I much enjoy sharing my knowledge with those who want to explore and learn something about Prague - one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

Marek is a lovely and dependable tour guide with excellent knowledge about art, architecture, history and Prague, and also about the best places to eat and drink. If you can do only one tour in Prague, do it with Marek.

Shout out to history, beer and art nerds! We didn't really know what to expect from this tour, but decided to book this adventure with Marek anyway, since he seemed to be firm and keen on the historical site of Prague - and we were not in the least disappointed. We loved every bit of it. Marek is not only an expert on art history and the virulent history of Prague - but he is also a local with an eye for details. It's fair to say that we've had an awesome day with Marek and would love to stay in contact for further discussions in comfy spots with beer and local food at Kampa. We met in a cosy café to talk about our personal preferences and interests so that Marek could create a tour suiting our expectations perfectly. Since we are really interested in the Religious Wars in the 15th/16th/17th century, Marek made it his aim to teach us as much as possible in 6 hours. There was always room for our questions and Marek tried his best to explain everything patiently. Marek is an art historian, teaching students from English speaking countries - and it shows. We are German and had no language barriers whatsoever. It's not dusty history, but the ancient and historic Prague came to life walking not only the common tourist spots, but also discovering the not so well-known parts. Marek is also an expert on modern art such as cubism. We loved every bit of it and recommend this tour wholeheartedly! We'll never forget and will be back :)
