Au programme

Meet the last Malabar Jilfan Arabian horses and our rescue herd. We are the only Malabar Jilfan farm and the only Malabar farm open to the public. Only 200 Malabars and a few Jilfan exist globally. We have been offering this experience since 2017 with 200+ outstanding reviews: "Learning about the horses and their stories may have been the highlight of our stay. -CJ" "This was an amazing experience and I cannot wait to return! -Christine" Upon arrival at the barn, expect a friendly greeting from Runa, our livestock guard dog. (Runa keeps stray dogs and predators away from the farm, so please tell us if you are bringing a service animal. No pets.) Your experience happens in the barn (expect outdoor temperatures, manure, mud, bugs, and wildlife) We begin with a release form, short safety orientation and bathroom break (outhouse). I then tell the Malabar and Jilfan stories and talk about rare breed preservation, and my history with horses. After that you meet each horse and experience their unique personalities. We provide treats for you to share with them. The horses enjoy interacting with visitors, inviting petting and selfies or playing, and their calmness is contagious. You may sit and share their peace, or actively engage with them. We hope you leave with an appreciation for rare breed preservation and their intelligence and individuality. No pets.

I've been riding and studying horses for more than 40 years. I am the author of The Healing of Horses and The Energetic Goat, published by Acres USA, and accept a select few apprentices each year for study on site. I originally learned horsemanship at the last junior cavalry school in the country, New Canaan Mounted Troop. I have years of experience with critically endangered species, from Red Wolves to Fainting Goats, and now critically endangered Arabian horse bloodlines. I specialize in introducing people to horses and horsemanship and the importance of rare breed preservation. Our farm is one of the rare few that treats horses as fellow conscious beings, and asks the horses to be partners in teaching people of their own free will. I blog and teach about rescue/adoption and breeding the critically rare bloodlines.

Destinations

You will be in the large barn at Barakah Heritage Farm, where East West Equestrian Arts is based. The barn is airy with a gentle breeze most days, well-lit, and gives us freedom to meet the horses in all weather except severe storms.

Days of hiking sound relaxing- and they are- but nothing like spending time with these beautiful animals. Rubbing the neck of a horse while he looks at you with those eyes that could melt butter make you want to stay there all day. Carrie's knowledge was fascinating and made us appreciate more the caretakers of so many creatures that we take for granted.

Carrie and Casey were wonderful in introducing me and my two daughters ages 8 & 9 to these beautiful animals. There is so much peace in these horses and you can tell from the way Carrie narrates their story and lives, it is filled with so much love. The outhouse is clean as well and not like anything like little house on the prairie. That was my biggest concern. This was a wonderful day for my family and I’m so grateful.

Carrie was a wonderful host and very informative. We had a chance to really interact with the horses... even the Donkey was a ball! Carrie is very knowledgeable and she also has great stories behind the personalities and arrival of all the horses. Be SURE to where old shoes or boots as you'll be walking through an open field and will encounter horse manure piles as expected during an interactive experience like this so come prepared.
