This room has its own private entrance from the garden of our very unusual home in the heart of the Chilterns. It is part of the grade II listed Gate lodges to Hampden House where John Hampden, cousin of Oliver Cromwell, lived in the 17th century.
It is said that Queen Elizabeth I stayed at Hampden House and requested an avenue to be cleared through the woods to create a view from the house which was apparently achieved 'overnight'. Our gate lodges are at the end of this avenue.
The double bedroom and shower room are for sole use of the guests. The doors to the rest of the house are locked but It is part of the main house where we live so guests may hear us although we try to be as quiet as possible. The house is surrounded by woods and fields and as there are no neighbours the local wildlife can be seen wandering around the garden just outside the windows.
