Established in 1884 by early pioneer William Asbury Townsend, the BuckHorn Ranch invites you to experience the John Day River Territory's high-country.
Let our restored ranch house be your home base for exploring this unique slice of Oregon.

Le logement
Our two-story home is fully equipped so you can relax and enjoy your stay.
Main floor consists of master bedroom with a king bed, plus two additional bedrooms, each with two extra-long twin beds. There are also two full baths.
There are two more bedrooms upstairs, each with two standard single beds.
Large dinning room is perfect for family meals and gatherings.
Propane and regular (charcoal is provided) barbecues with tables /chairs on the back deck. Also, extra frig on back porch for those cold drinks.
Dogs and horses are welcome:
Dogs - please see "house rules".
Horses - corral is available. Our horse barn is currently under renovation - we hope to offer comfy stalls in 2017.

Accès des voyageurs
House and grounds are available to our guests, however other ranch buildings are private.
WARNING: If you need the sounds of a freeway to lull you to sleep , or a coyote's howl makes you nervous, or you need cell/media service 24/7 - this place is not for you.

Autres points à prendre en note
Verizon, US Cellular and a few other cell-phone carriers are supported at the ranch. However, due to location, many are not.
Once you leave the highway (US 19) most of the county roads to the ranch are gravel - take care when rounding corners.
Mule deer are everywhere and can bound onto the highway/ roadway at any time, especially at dusk and dawn - so be aware. They do not make good hood ornaments.

Condon, Oregon, États-Unis

For over a hundred years the BuckHorn Ranch has been a cornerstone of the Mayville Flats wheat, horse and cattle ranching community. It is now dedicated to preserving the habitat of the wildlife that call this high plateau their home - so your neighbors will be deer, antelope, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, upland game birds, hawks, eagles, badgers and maybe, a bunny or two.
There are restaurants, saloons (bars), gas stations and grocery in Condon, 16 miles (20 minutes away) and Fossil, 19 miles (about 30 minutes).
Nightlife could be a trip to Crossed Rifles BarB-Que Fossil or sitting on the deck stargazing (which can be amazing!)
The new Cottonwood Canyon State Park on the John Day River is just 39 miles away (approx. a 50 minute drive) and the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument & Painted Hills is a nice day trip...or you can dig your own fossils near the high school in Fossil. All the tools & info you will need are available at the Paleo Center, across from the Court House in Fossil.
There are also interesting historical museums in both Condon & Fossil. John Day River trips are available through local outfitters; reservations are necessary. We can provide contact information if you need it.

For many years my husband and I were "part-timers" - splitting our time between our home in the Willamette Valley and our beloved ranches here in North Central Oregon. The true "love of our lives" are our English Setters - seven with paws on the ground at our neighboring ranch. We are bird-dog people. So no surprise, when children were grown, we decided to pulled up stakes in the valley and become "full-timers" (-: Although new to Airbnb, we have been hosting private events within the art & pointing dog communities at the Buckhorn for the last eight years, and have enjoyed sharing the ranch house and grounds with guests over the past twenty. We look forward to sharing it with you.

The house was originally designed to accomodate
over-flow guests (friends & family) from our ranch near Fossil, so we are near by if you should need us. We are happy to help with your plans while here or answer any questions you may have.
Also, the Condon Chamber is open week-days until noon and has lots of info on events and activities in the area. K'Lynn, the Director, is a peach (-:

Fall / Winter : We offer limited Upland Game-bird and Buck Hunt Packages. Our hunts are usually booked a year in advance. Need additional info? Just ask.
