Come enjoy your private guest space (a private bedroom and adjacent bathroom, with private entrance) in our air-conditioned rural home on four oak-covered acres in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains --- minutes from the Goldrush towns of Columbia, Sonora, and Jamestown.

Le logement
Your guest bedroom has a comfortable queen-size bed (with memory foam topper), chair, chest-of-drawers, closet, wide-screen HDTV with satellite TV receiver and a DVD player. Free Wi-Fi Internet is accessible from the bedroom. The guest bathroom with shower/bath is adjacent to the bedroom. The side entrance of our house is your private entry to your guest space which is separated from the rest of the house by heavy drapery panels across the hallway. Your parking space is adjacent to the side entry.

Accès des voyageurs
You, of course, have your guest space all to yourselves. In addition, you can lounge on the decks around the house and wander around the surrounding property. You have kitchen and laundry room privileges and there is also a gas barbecue on the side deck you can use. If watching TV from your guest bed isn't to your liking, you may use the office to watch TV or a DVD movie from our tandem recliner.

Autres points à prendre en note
We have a very friendly dog, Davey Jones, who thinks everyone who comes to our house comes expressly to visit him. We will keep Davey off of you and out of your guest space --- at least after the first hectic minute of your visit. Davey Jones is a lovable, energetic Black Labrador mix.

Sonora, Californie, États-Unis

The Motherlode corridor is one of the few remaining preserved historical areas in California. From our home it is a few minutes to the Goldrush towns of Columbia Historic State Park, Sonora, and Jamestown, more minutes to Black Oak Casino, Murphys, San Andreas, Jackson and Sutter Creek and 1 - 3 hours to Yosemite Valley, Bodie State Park, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, Dodge Ridge Ski Area, Bear Valley Ski Area, Kirkwood Ski Area, South Lake Tahoe, Sacramento or San Francisco.

Our property is very rural --- our surrounding neighbors are on 4 - 20 acres and share their property with a few cattle, horses, goats, donkeys, chickens, dogs, cats and all the variety of wild animals in the Sierras. We even had a mountain lion visit the neighborhood a couple years ago.

The fact that you are looking for lodging in our area suggests you already know what the area has to offer --- most likely Yosemite Valley. We can suggest other activities that you may not be aware of:

--- Columbia State Historical Park is not only a beautifully preserved Goldrush town but also a living community (most of our local friends live in Columbia). Jeri and I have been coming to Columbia and Calaveras Big Trees since we were children. You pub crawlers can start at one end of Main Street in Columbia at the Jack Douglass Saloon (1857), then amble up the street to the What Cheer Saloon (1857) and later continue up to the St. Charles Saloon (1861), and then repeat.

--- Moaning and Mercer Caverns

--- Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown is great for train buffs. From Spring to Fall there are steam locomotive rides from the park. A tour of the still-working roundtable is a must.

--- Melones Reservoir has great fishing and power boating and is only 4 miles away.

--- We can recommend excellent restaurants and saloons in Columbia, Sonora, Jamestown, Angels Camp and Murphys --- minutes away. Sonora and Columbia have three excellent theatre groups. There are several caves to explore in Calaveras and Amador counties. At the appropriate times of the year in the foothills and mountains of the Sierra Nevada Mountains there are many rivers and lakes to raft, kayak, sail, fish, ski or swim in. And the peaks and valleys of the Sierras! ..., I don't have time or space to tell you about my wild, rugged, beautiful Sierras. I hug granite as well as trees.

My wife Jeri and I are newly retired; we live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. We love the beauty and peace and quiet of the mountains. I have been backpacking, climbing and skiing in the Sierras for most of my life. Now Jeri and I hike and kayak a lot in the area. We spend a large amount of our newly acquired free time reading the 1000+ books we have been collecting over the years --- Jeri and I both love reading history, historical fiction and classic fiction; I also read a lot of science fiction, selected contemporary novels, cosmology and quantum physics popularizations, and, lately, Scandinavian mystery novels. We also spend much time listening to our extensive music collection: jazz, blues, 60s/70s rock, Baroque-Classical-Romantic, Americana and international folk, Bob Dylan. We really enjoy a wide variety of international cuisine and, consequently, we both love to cook. We recently remodeled our kitchen and are enjoying trying out new international recipes in our beautiful, new space. In addition, I have been creating a woodworking shop in my garage for years in anticipation of retirement. I’m now developing the woodworking skills to design and build furniture. I should also confess how much we love spending time with our children and grandchildren. In April 2013 Jeri and I embarked on a cruise ship in Miami to cross the Atlantic heading for the Canary Islands, Barcelona, Toulon, Livorno and ending in Civitavecchia/Rome. We then travelled by train to Venice, Munich, Paris and London. Finally, we took another cruise ship from Southampton, UK to New York where we flew back to California. I lived and worked in Munich for 2+ years (1982 to 1984) and had the opportunity to travel all over Western Europe. Jeri had never been to Europe and I had always wanted to take her there. She loved the wonderful people and places and cultures just as I did. I have also spent a year in Vietnam and sailed the Saronic Gulf in Greece for 2+ weeks some years ago. We take frequent trips to Mexico. We used Airbnb on our Europe trip both because we wanted to reduce our travel costs and because we wanted to interact with local people in the places we visited. It worked out beautifully. We are both easy-going people and are easy to get along with. When we schedule lodging at your home, please state honestly and clearly what we can expect, beyond the description in your Airbnb posting. We do not expect hotel-like accommodations, we just want to know what to expect. Jeri and I are not fluent in any language other than English; however, I can read, understand and speak Spanish, French and German a little bit. Jeri and I look forward to meeting you and enjoying your fine home.

Durant votre séjour
Jeri and I decided to become Airbnb hosts both for the additional income and for the chance to meet interesting people from around the country and the world. Consequently, we hope you will feel comfortable spending time talking and drinking tea/coffee/beer/wine with us. We are nice people. On the other hand, we appreciate that some will want to enjoy a private, intimate vacation with a minimum of interaction with us --- that's great too!

We will provide a Continental Breakfast on request (request before you show up): bread, cheeses, fruit, French Press or Drip or Espresso coffee, tea, milk, orange juice.

We're happy and able to provide information and suggestions for activities and dining in our local counties and also for California as a whole.
