This sunroom in my reconverted barn has windows on 3 sides, looking out onto fields, woods, a swimming hole down the hill, and deer in the morning. It is 10 min. by car to Bethel Woods (Woodstock) music events, 7 miles to the Delaware River for swimming and kyacking, 5 minutes to Villa Roma Resort and Conference Center. Hiking, biking nearby. Guests say they feel 'at home' here and enjoy the quiet and nature.

Le logement
The story:
Sixty years ago Shorty Krantz built this barn for his cows, and locals tell me there were chickens in my present studio upstairs. But soon after it was built, the barn was inhabited by a well-digger, and nary a feather has been found upstairs. Shorty had an apple cider operation going in the bungalow across the street. Shorty was not short, his measuring of the precious liquid was, however.
The space:
There are two different rooms available for guests: one room is the Sunroom, a 6 skylighted room with one wall of floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the fields, and two other walls with windows looking out to the woods. The Sunroom sleeps 2, and on occasion an extra person has slept on my camping mattress on the floor.
The second room I call "The Library". It has one full wall of floor to ceiling windows looking out on the garden and fields beyond, two walls of floor to ceiling bookcases, and one wall of closets. Masks that I have collected from around the world decorate this room.
Both of these rooms are just off the kitchen and separated by the shared bathroom, which has both a Jacuzzi and a shower.

Accès des voyageurs
The Sunroom :Guests have 2 options to come and go; through the kitchen door or through a private door in the sunroom itself which leads to the lawn and driveway.leads to the shared kitchen and bathroom. Guests have their own refrigerator and I leave out on the counter breakfast every morning.
The Library: There is one entrance to the Library; one enters the kitchen and finds the Library up one step and to the left.
The kitchen: Guests both in the Sunroom and Library can store food and drinks in the kitchen refrigerator. The kitchen table serves as our 'dining room', where you can eat your own home-cooked meals, or the breakfast put out for you each morning, or where you can do computer work.
Outside: guests are encouraged to sit outside on the two decks or in the lawn chairs, to breath in the beauty of the surroundings.

Guests can access the grounds and the chairs on the lawn and have the use of the Adirondack chairs on the pergola on the east side of the house and the lounge chairs on the west side. I invite guests upstairs to see my studio if the guest has interest and time. I paint large watercolors, and also acrylics, and oils. Guests who would like a lesson with free supplies, the price is $35. for an hour.

Autres points à prendre en note
Whether you are in transit to another place, or here for the local scenery, you will find the White Barn Sunroom or Library a comfortable home away from home, surrounded by fields, woods, and streams. With luck, you might even witness a flock of turkeys crossing the local roads from time to time. (Callicoon is Dutch for turkey!). More common an animal sighting is opening your eyes in the early a.m. to see families of deer out the window munching on the lawn .

Rural is what we are here at the White Barn Sunroom and Library. There is a working farm at the foot of the hill, with cows, chickens, pigs, and an occasional horse. The country road we are on winds up the hill to another farm and several homes of the Fulton family (thus the address of Fulton Hill Rd.) where one can get a view of the rolling hills of the countryside, and then descends into Kenoza Lake. Word has it that Fulton Hill Rd. is one of the prettiest in the area. I agree, but then, I am prejudiced.

I am an artist, originally from New England but I spent 30 years in New York City, teaching k-12 in the public schools, and later after I did my Ph.d., at college at School of Visual Arts, and exhibiting my art work here and abroad. Recently I have returned from teaching and directing parent and child art festivals in the Middle East, the most recent one as a Fulbright Specialist in Abu Dhabi. These jobs allowed me to see much of the Middle East and come to know their cultures and to make friends there. Now I am back in my reconverted barn upstate in Callicoon, surrounded by lakes, woods, and sky. Nature here forms a part of my art, not only in pleine air painting but by acquiring a reverence for the complexity and fragility of our home here on earth. Besides making art and teaching, I love traveling. As a solo traveler, I always meet wonderful people, especially when staying at airbnbs abroad. Airbnb is the best way to travel, as one can meet locals and get inside tips on where to go and what to do. I also travel by reading. Guests can avail themselves of my own private library that focuses mostly on art history, cultures, history, travel and of course fiction. If guests wish, I can give lessons in my 1,250 sq. ft. upstairs studio at $35. for 1.5 hr sessions, materials included. (website: (Website hidden by Airbnb) I am looking forward to meeting guests and am ready to advise them on places to go and things to do in the area, as I have lived here for 30 years. Writers, artists, and musicians have formed a community here, vitalizing the rural culture. In the summer especially, these artists provide many cultural events. Winter is quieter, when having company is a wonderful counterpart to the quiet and birdsong here in the country. My life motto is 'volere, potere' which translated from Latin is 'to do, to be able', or, as the Regee song says "You Can Get it if you Really Want", with a proviso that one can change what one wants at will. Flexibility is essential in mottoes as it is in life.

Durant votre séjour
I am always happy to help guests with any recommendations for places to eat in Jeffersonville, Callicoon, or Narrowsburg, or where to rent a canoe, for example, or where the best swimming in the Delaware River is (Lander's, at the Milanville bridge), or the best mountain hike (Jensen Ledges). Also I can help find cultural events happening in the area. Or, guests can lounge on either of the two decks, one a pergola with grape vines, the other looking west to the sunset. Adirondack chairs on the lawn allow a downhill vista of the East Branch of the Callicoon Creek, one of the best trout streams around.
