Please do not leave food out as ants will easily come inside the cottage.

As stated in the amenities section, "Essentials" are not provided. Thus, when deciding what to bring, please remember to pack bed linens (inclusive of duvet cover, fitted sheet, pillow case, and flat sheet), towels (for body, hands, feet, and the beach), and kitchen towels. There is no need to pack pillows or duvets as those will be available. There are 3 queen beds and 2 single beds. Bedding of those sizes will be needed.

Feel free to use the condiments and spices in the cabinets but not the food or alcohol. If you use any substantial amount of products, kindly replace them before you leave.

Only toilet tissue in the toilets as we are on a septic system!
No outdoor fires and smoking outdoors only!

Do not drink the water from the outside tap as it is well water.

Please take all garbage with you when you leave. The closest dump site is 15 min drive west on 35 County Road 14 (Sophiasburgh). They are open on Saturdays 8am-4pm. The 2nd closest dump site is 18 min drive at 37 Church St (Picton). The Picton location is open Wednesdays & Saturdays 8am-4pm. Both will cost $5/bag for garbage. For more information, please do a web search for "Prince Edward County Garbage Dump".

There is recycling pickup every other Tuesday - Just let your recyclables accumulate in the recycling bin near the carport entrance. Our neighbours can take the recycling down to the end of the driveway on Tuesdays if you don't mind.
The natural compost found by the carport can only take vegetables, fruits, coffee grind, leaves, and eggshells. It is not a city compost so please do not dispose meat, bones, oils, cheese, baked goods, compost bags, or bleached paper products in there. If you are not sure, safest is to treat it as garbage.

If you move outdoor furniture, kindly return it to its original location.

Be careful walking on the pathways as they are very uneven. There is poison ivy and Wild Parsnip on the property, so stay on the pathways to avoid them.

Please only adjust the temperature on the main Nest thermostat on the main floor. Please do not adjust thermostats in the other locations as we cannot shut down the system remotely if so. We have in-floor radiant heating and it takes time for the house to come up to temperature. In the cooler months of April/May, we find the house to be sufficient if set to 19 degrees. If more heat is required, please start a fire. We do not have air conditioning so even if you adjust down, nothing will happen.

When leaving, please:
1) Close all windows but keep drapes open
2) Turn off all lights and switches inclusive of the power bar switch for the TV behind the shelf
3) Ensure all fires are extinguished and close both flues and air intake door on masonry stove
4) Lock main, back, and front patio doors
5) Return kayak to carport
6) Take all garbage with you
7) Ensure BBQ and propane line to BBQ are both shut off
8) Clear the refrigerator and freezer of any items you brought with you
9) Return key to lockbox

This cottage has it all: a great location, beautiful viewing areas, a crystal-clear sound system, an open and spacious kitchen, and enough beds and washrooms to give all cottage goers comfort and privacy. All for a great value. Catherine, even while on vacation, was surprisingly prompt whenever I had a question about the cottage. Our stay was a peaceful, restorative retreat to say the least. We'll be hoping to go back again in the near future!

Catherine's house is beautiful & unique--the property is secluded but is right on the water & in close driving distance to a lot of restaurants, wineries & other attractions around Prince Edward County. Well equipped & with lots of perks--like the rooftop deck, beautiful gardens, kayak & telescope for checking out the night sky, this was a perfect home base for our family reunion in beautiful Prince Edward County. Catherine was a very helpful & communicative host.

I stayed here with my family this summer and overall our stay was fantastic. Not only is the house well designed, spacious and comfortable, but the grounds and garden are absolutely beautiful. What's more, there is a patio on the roof and access to a kayak if you are interested in taking a paddle around the bay.

This is a lovely cottage and provided us with a relaxing weekend get-away in wine country. You will need to bring your own linens (bed sheets, towels, etc.) but as long as you have a spare set handy this isn't much of a hassle. The garbage disposal rules in PEC are quite restrictive and the nearby landfill sites are only open on Saturdays (and Wednesdays, in summer), so you need to plan a bit ahead for disposing of your garbage if your check-out is not on a Saturday or Wednesday. All in all, a great value and very enjoyable. Host was very responsive to questions.

Réponse de Catherine :
Thank you for your feedback. The cottage is our vacation home and with it being off-grid, it is very difficult for us to deal with the garbage and the linens (no dryer at the cottage as it is an electricity intensive appliance). Thus we have made both these items very clear in our listing to minimize confusion - "Essentials" were not check off and full details were provided about the garbage disposal in the House Rules section. We would never want to mislead our guests to think otherwise before booking. We will definitely look into how we may provide such services in the future.

It was a pleasure hosting you and and your family. I hope we have left you a good impression of the County despite the poor weather that particular weekend. This will just mean you need to come back again when it is not rainy!

Catherine & Nick's place is a little slice of heaven. We came for a long weekend with friends and had a perfect stay. The home is GORGEOUS. Beautiful, modern design on the inside, landscaping that highlights the natural beauty on the outside. While it is "off the grid", we weren't missing any of the comforts of home. Everything was as shown in the photos, if not more beautiful. A highlight was the unbelievable 360 view from the rooftop deck, which made for the perfect spot to watch the sunset while drinking a glass of wine. You can also get a good view of the living roof, which is so cool! We enjoyed cooking most of our meals together, and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was nice to find sharp, high-quality knives and beautiful serving ware (We've found that vacation home kitchens sometimes end up with all the dull knives and dated serving ware - not the case here!) It was our first visit to PEC and we found the location convenient for wine tasting and checking out the local towns. It took around 30 minutes to get to the wineries in Wellington and Hillier. It was a pretty cold and rainy April weekend, but the home warmed up nicely when we got a fire going in the masonry stove. There were plenty of duvets to keep us cosy. We also appreciated that the home is dog-friendly, as our pup loved exploring outside! Catherine & Nick were very responsive and lovely to deal with. We had a couple of questions through the weekend and they were quick to respond by e-mail or phone. As we were their first guests, Catherine gave me a call at the end of the stay to ask how everything was and if they could improve anything for future guests - clearly a good sign! A few small tips: bring towels for the floor outside the shower. We brought towels for our bodies and hands, but forgot about our feet. You'll also need duvet covers in the cooler months. Thank you, Catherine & Nick! We'll definitely be back!

Mom to two boys who fell in love with this beautiful property on the Bay of Quinte in 2013. We decided on this place in hopes that our family can grow with an appreciation for nature. There's nothing quite like enjoying a glass of wine while taking in the beautiful County sunset.

We love taking our two boys traveling. As a family, we have been to Hawaii, Mexico, South Africa, San Francisco, New York City, and Ottawa. My husband and I have been to Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London and many parts of United States and Canada.
