Our home is on the shore of Loch Etive - 15 miles (24 kilometres) from Oban - and close to the Highlands & Islands. Your bedroom and bathroom are at the back of the house, so very private. The price includes a cooked breakfast and this is the place for you if you love nature. There is a slipway for launching kayaks and swimming. The house is old and a bit knocked about the edges. The house is Victorian - as are the plumbing, electric and heating systems! - but the welcome is warm.
Ben Duirinnis House is half an hour's drive from Oban and was built in the late 1880s. The gardens include lots of wilderness, a woodland and a loch front 'promenade'. The house makes a great base to use for trips, walks or just chill and let life pass you by. Please note that there are no shops or restaurants in Bonawe. Restaurants are available nearby in Appin, Oban & Connel.
Your room is upstairs at the rear of the house looking up to Ben Duirinnis mountain. There is a TV/DVD player in the room and two comfortable chairs. You have a private bathroom with a huge, old, enamel bath. Be aware, the hot water gets very very hot and the plumbing here is somewhat erratic!

There is a downstairs room "the snug" with armchairs, sofa, maps, books and games for your use and where you can make tea and coffee. Breakfast is served in the dining room and our cooked breakfasts will set you up for the day. We can provide vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free versions if you let me know when you book, as well as a regular English or continental breakfast. If you want to have a cooked breakfast, I can provide these between 8 am and 9.30 am, otherwise I can leave out a full continental-style breakfast, including homemade bread.

Come and ask us anything - if it's legal and we can help, we will. David is an experienced climber/mountaineer who is happy to give suggestions for walks and outings. Fiona is always looking for guests who will come and swim in the loch with her - so far, a few guests have had a plunge!
We are both quite sociable, so happy to chat. However, we are aware some guests like a bit more privacy, and we respect that, too.
There are lots of activities in the area including walking, bird watching, sea kayaking, visiting Oban distillery, Castle Stalker, boat trips and easy access to the Isles by CalMac ferries. We are well placed for mountain activities with Glencoe 45 minutes away and two skiing areas just a bit further.
Please pick up after your dog in the grounds. Please clean up in the kitchen if you make tea or coffee.

I am very lucky to live in this part of Scotland. I enjoy swimming in the loch at the bottom of our garden and walking our springer spaniel, Mabel. I share the house with my husband, David, who is a member of the local mountain rescue team and teaches Physics at the high school in Oban. We love sharing our home with Airbnb guests from all over the world. I relax by playing the piano, baking and watching boxed sets! I have just enrolled on an OU degree in German & Spanish
