With an eclectic architecture, the building offers the possibility not only to rest but also to enjoy the view of dawns and evenings of Havana City. You can also enjoy a cigar from the balcony with a nice chat, silence for meditation, drink a nice strong coffee ("a lo cubano"), or even a nice cold beer, to handle the strong tropical heat of Havana.
Our house provides great service : comfort and overall the warm affection of Cuban people, without any other intention than to satisfy our guests!

I've done a fair amount of travel in Latin America and the Caribbean, and would consider this a solid place to stay, but would admit that there are better options for the price. The upsides were Abel and his mother were incredibly warm, friendly people. They made us feel welcome and were readily available, offered us a phone to use for a good price, and answered questions about getting around, finding wifi, recommendations for good events, etc. The downsides were not having our own kitchen space, not entirely realizing how connecting the rental apartment and the main house are, disliking the low water pressure, and finding the beds on the less comfortable side. Again, I've stayed in everything from a 3$ hostel in Bolivia to very posh hotels in Panama, it's a question of how much comfort you want for the cost. After having moved around a bit in the city of Havana, I'd say this is a solidly good place, though a bit much for the comforts.

Our stay with Abel was absolutely fantastic, we could not have been happier. You really get the best out of AirBnb with this. An authentic and ideally located Havana apartment with a generous host to help you experience a local's Cuba. Some highlights. First, the apartment is great; two connected bedrooms and a nice sitting room in front with a balcony. The bedroom has aircon, the shower is hot and the toilet paper is soft - do not underestimate these; the hosts even kept us in clean towels. Second, the location is outstanding. If you want to experience Havana, definitely stay in Vedado, and Abel's apartment is in a terrific location (it's equally close to Fabrica Arte Cubano and trendy restaurants/bars as it is to a local pastry "shop"). Plus, you're only a 5-10 min walk from the Melacon for sunset and a 3 minute walk from the internet park (one of very few places you can access internet). The best part though is the host. Abel (and his mother) consistently went out of their way to make our experience great. For example - we wanted to go to the beach, so not only did Abel arrange a ride, but he accompanied us on the ride to make sure we found a good beach to go to. We ended up having two great days surrounded by locals at a beautiful beach. Had we merely followed the guide we'd have been surrounded by tourists and paid double for our room. This is one example of many similar. Abel helped us find cool bars and concerts to see, great restaurants with few tourists, and arranged rides when we needed them so we didn't get ripped off by taxis. Had we not stayed here, we would have missed out on a lot. Note that you share the front door of the apartment with Abel (the family lives in a separate part in the back so they're there if you ever need them, but they are happy to leave you entirely alone if you want). And make sure you take Abel's mom up on her breakfast, it is definitely worth it. p.s. I accidentally stole a Cuba guidebook someone had left at their apartment for guests to borrow (I forgot it was in my backpack). If you have one that you don't need when you leave...

Abel is wonderful. The house is exactly as pictured - clean, spacious, quiet, with a nice balcony. All of the perks of staying in casa with a host, while still having your own space. The location is great for getting a taste of real Cuban life, in walking distance from Fabrica de Arte Cubano, the Malecon, the Miramar neighborhood, the cemetery and many more popular restaurants, bars and attractions. Abel helped arrange transportation all around the city, including to Havana Vieja (10ish min, CUC$5) and the airport (20ish min, CUC$25). He also offers a delicious breakfast for CUC$5 every morning. When we come back to Havana, we will definitely stay here again. Our trip was wonderful, and our stay with Abel was a big contributor to our time in Cuba.

Abel was a warm and accommodating host, who provided lots of great suggestions & even took us out one night. At an additional cost, he can provide breakfast (and is a great cook), and we enjoyed lots of strong coffee and cold beers. The home is clean, tidy and well-situated near Calle 23. I would highly recommend his home, especially for the low-maintenance travel who wants to have the authentic Cuban experience. Speaking Spanish is a plus, too.

Due to Airbnb mishap (not the host) I didn't have the exact address when I boarded my flight: panicked that I was arriving in Cuba with 5 friends and no where to sleep that night (and no backup plan)... imagine how AMAZING it is to find your host at the airport holding a massive sign with your name? This is Abel. He had never hosted on Airbnb before and during the flight the website had canceled my reservation but he still trusted in me and knew I was desperate and came to rescue us all. What a relief!!! His lovely home is as described and photographed. Three equally sized and nicely furnished bedrooms in which 2 people can share each comfortably. The bathroom is kept clean and has the nicest toilet I used in all of my stay in Cuba (yes even nicer than the fancy hotels). Each day Abels' mother made us a delicious breakfast (even a veggie option for my sister) and washed our towels so they were fresh for us each day. He offers water, beer, small grocery shopping for us for a small charge which was very handy. It's a family business for sure and they do an excellent job of making you feel at home. Abel showed us some of the best parts of Havana and made great recommendations. I personally was sick most of my visit (not due to Cuba at all!) but abel went out of his way to try to find things I could eat that would make me feel better. We were treated like family the whole time and it was such a great experience. Would highly recommend. To be clear, because I'm not sure it's entirely obvious from the restrictions Airbnb puts on offerings: this is a 3 bedroom rental but abel lives in the apartment (although his space is separate). I mention this because he also did a very excellent job of also giving us plenty of space. He'd make us breakfast, see if we needed help and then leave us to do our thing. Pretty much the ideal amount of assistance we wanted from our host. Side note for US travelers; be sure to check that the full address has been made available to you after the booking. If not, message Abel immediately. Airbnb is still new to Cuba and they had some growing pains in regards to this reservation. Luckily for me (and my friends) Abel believed in us and stuck it out and picked us up at the airport even though he didn't have a confirmed booking. A bit of a nightmare but Abels house made it worth it.
