Media freelancer host, glad to recommend quirky London places.
I live a short bus ride from Crystal Palace with its abundance of cafes, restaurants, pubs, retro/antique shops, staggering views of London and enormous park famous for its giant dinosaurs! Equally close is Croydon (#The Cronx) the growing 'tech city' with soon-to-open Box Park - a container village of restaurants and loads of street art.
Trains to London Bridge take 11-20 mins. Catch the 'ginger line' to Shoreditch (33 mins). Or take the tram to Beckenham (Bowie's childhood home) or Wimbledon.
On the doorstep are Norwood Country Park and Norwood Lakes. You would never imagine such expansive green spaces could exist in the city! My area is not chi-chi - it has edge and character and having grown to love it, I wouldn't live anywhere else!
Norwood Junction is a 30 min train journey from Gatwick Airport so may be useful as a stop off point!
No drugs. Smoking in the garden is welcome. If you're staying during the week please don't come back too late!
