First - the setting. Garton is a small quiet village in picturesque rural surroundings, situated on the road to between Driffield and York, and is around a 30 minute drive from York, and 5 minutes drive from Driffield itself. You are very close to Sledmere which is a well-known local landmark open to the public. This property is in an ideal location for any events on either at the showground (Driffield Show, Traction Engine etc), or at Sledmere House itself. Or just take it as an opportunity to surround yourself with the gorgeous scenery in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds.
You'll be staying in one of 2 rooms in a farmhouse which is just off the main road up a short private drive. The owners also operate a independent campsite at the same location which also looks excellent, but was not in use at the time we stayed.
There are two different rooms available in this old farmhouse, one is a spacious double with en-suite and adjacent sitting room, and the other is a seriously HUGE king-size room. Both rooms are on the first floor, and the owners do have pets (dog and cat, both very friendly!).
We stayed in the king-size suite. This is comprised of a sitting room with comfy chairs for you to enjoy that morning cuppa you just made once you managed to climb out of the luxurious king size bed in a seriously freaking HUGE and well-equipped bedroom, complete with TV, plenty of storage and sink, and a separate modern bathroom finished to an incredibly high standard, with a powerful walk-in shower. There's also a baby cot in the room too, tucked away under one of the windows.
Breakfast was a revelation. Farmhouse special, with fresh... everything. Simply awesome, served with toast, fresh coffee, and orange juice. Locally sourced produce, and a great start to the day, whatever you end up doing.
Would happily stay again. Thanks for the hospitality!
