My parents always make every effort to make our guests comfortable and to give our renters complete privacy. My mother was finishing final cleaning details when the first couple arrived early. Yes, conversation was made as she welcomed them to our vacation home. Shortly afterward, and before any other clients arrived, my mother took over with a house gift of maple syrup that she had previously forgotten.
No other visit was also made until the morning of departure. My mother had noted, from the automobile traffic going by, that, while only four people were booked and paid for, at least six to eight people were actually staying in the house. It was recommended that she document that there were extra people. Only when everyone was packing the remaining vehicles to leave, did my mother go over, ask for and receive permission to take pictures of at least six of multiple people that had stayed the two nights. The renters did leave monies, as a tip, for the extra cleaning needed for the house - that was appreciated. They did not leave monies, either directly to my parents or through AirBnB for the extra occupants.
This is our very first experience of people slipping in more people than booked and paid for. We handled it as best that we could. We work hard to give our renters, a great home to visit, with lots of privacy, at a very affordable price. Although it was discouraging that we were taken advantage of, we will continue our efforts to make a wonderful vacation experience for everyone coming to our home.
