My husband and I arrived to the house on Saturday morning, after driving through the night. Margaret was very accommodating in letting us check in early. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very excited dog. That was unexpected, but he was a friendly dog. We were given a very spacious bedroom on the second floor. She does not book more than one party at a time, so we actually had the entire upstairs to ourselves.
Margaret showed us her lovely quilts, which she makes herself. She also makes hook rugs by the way. The house itself is exactly what you would expect from a farmhouse. A porch that spans the front of the house, with casual seating adorning the various sides. Antique furnishings with proper China displayed throughout. There was a stained glass window when you got up the stairs, and plenty of wallpaper from room to room.
The bathroom was more recently put in, which was a plus. The tub was new and clean, although quite small. Granted, I am six months pregnant, and I still fit with the door closed. There were plenty of towels and blankets if needed. Given that it was still hot out, we were comfortable with the air conditioning on and a fan.
The land itself spans very far. We got exactly what we wanted, which was being surrounded by nature, and some peace and quiet. We traveled for all of Saturday, from the top of Seneca Lake to the bottom, and back. We returned to the house around 10pm, exhausted. We had a good nights rest. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a bit far, for someone who has to go multiple times through the night. The hallway is rather dark, too. But I don't think most people would need to walk back and forth as much as I did.
We woke up to a lovely breakfast of eggs, strawberries, juice and coffee. And best of all, it was all served on lovely China. We had great conversation with Margaret on her past in the city. I thoroughly enjoyed her company, and insight on farm life.
Check out was at 10am on Sunday, but by the time we had breakfast and conversed, we must've left an hour later. We were happy with the flexibility.
Seems like a good stop on the way to Canada, so we hope to stay here again soon.
