My husband and I moved to the Big Rideau Lake 12 years ago, from the charming small town of Perth where we raised our family. We love our location: a small bay just north of Portland village. Watching the wildlife is one of our biggest pleasures:
loons, herons, birds of all sizes as well as migrating ducks and geese. Occasional visitors are deer and fox. Muskrats, otter and beaver as well. Sitting on our deck, just watching the ever-changing waterscape, is our daily relaxation/meditation.
Daily walks on our small private road are especially delightful, shady in summertime and colorful in the fall. In winter, walking/skiing/skating and snowmobiling on the frozen lake is exhilarating.
My husband enjoys fishing all year round: off the end of our dock, from the boat or in the comfort of a warm ice-shack. We love to eat the fresh fish.
In the summer, we like to take the houseboat out for an over-night stay parked in a quiet secluded bay. Tubing is enjoyed by our two grandsons.
Canoe, kayak and paddle-board are enjoyed by our family and guests.
I am an avid reader. I enjoy playing scrabble and doing crosswords. Music is a big part of our family life - from classical to the 70's ( my youth) and today's pop.
With family in Europe, USA and Australia, we enjoy traveling.
