This is a truly special place. The accommodation is luxurious, with generous amounts of space and privacy. Although the house accommodates easily 2 couples or even 2 families, the hosts only book in 2 parties if they are connected. Otherwise, you will have the large kitchen and huge porch all to yourself. The house is air conditioned, using a great system that makes no noise and creates no draft. The kitchen is huge, with a very large fridge and freezer, there is a braii area and the most beautiful outdoor shower area on subsaharan africa.... you'll see. The hosts live in the main house on the other side of a small hill, so you will have total privacy if you wish, but if you need anything then help is just holler away. If Cobus offers to take you on a drive around the property I strongly recommend you go, it's an experience you will remember forever, especially if it includes a sunset overlooking the river.... There is much more to be said about this very, very special place, but let's not give away too much, discover for yourself. One word of warning: this farm is SERIOUSLY remote, the nearest shop is hours of driving (mostly on dirt roads) away, so bring your supplies. Also, this is DEFINATELY not a suitable "stopover" on the way to somewhere else, with the possible exception of the nearby (about 30km) Augrabies falls. Do yourself a favour and make Daberas your destination, spend at least a few days here, learn about the geology and natural history of the area, and marvel at the dedication and love the hosts have for this land. You will not regret your time here.

This is a very special place. It is important to note that the farm is: 1. Very remote - at least another hour from the Augrabies Falls National Park (although it shares a border with the park) Hence, take enough food for self-catering for two-three days so you do not need to restock for a while. 2. Has wonderful track for 4X4 - the top farm is accessible to smaller vehicles, however to truly experience the incredible scenery, I would say a 4X4 is a must although we managed fairly well in our Honda CRV (despite one flat tyre). 3. That is would be best to book the whole cottage - both rooms for privacy. That said, this is perhaps one of the most spectacular natural landscapes I have ever seen. The farm has an ancient riverbed running through it - which is the access to the 4X4 trails. The natural desert bush is beautiful and the farm is teeming with wildlife (dassies, klipspringer, baboons, springbok, mongoose, leopard, gemsbok and so much more, not to mention a wonderful selection of birdlife. We found 3-4 days was perfect and that this location would be a wonderful addition to a tour of the greater area. Stopping here for one day would definitely be too little - you could never soak it up). We went in December and the temperatures reached 43 degrees Celsius. The accommodation is fairly well cooled although one night we opted to sleep under the stars - cool night breezes and an immense and beautiful sky. The farm also has old pink quartz quarries and quiver trees - both worth a visit. Strangely the pink quartz fits this landscape of yellows and greys and is beautiful. A definite must see - but be prepared for the drive, bring enough food and be open to sleeping outside.

I love nature and it is great to share it with people who can also appreciate this unique landscape and most of all that we need to preserve and protect the little bit we can, for the future generation. Here you will experience true South African hospitality, good food, big skies and the stillness of the desert.
