We have now have completed our third cottage restoration which we are calling "Why Not? It is a 1894 completely remodeled 4 season cottage located in an 1892 cottage community nestled in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Hershey park is only 15 minutes away, and 5 minutes away from the Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair & local wineries. "Why Not?" has the Mt. Gretna charm & ambiance but with the luxuries of modernity. Lebanon Local tax of 5% is included in rental price.
"Why Not?" is a newly remodeled year round cottage in the cottage community of Mt. Gretna Pa. Tammy and I purchased this cottage and spent 1.5 years restoring it from the ugly 70's look back to the cottage charm but with the modern bathrooms and kitchen that you see in the photos. The cottage is nestled in the tall pines and other cottages that make up the Mt. Gretna Campmeeting community. Most of the cottages that make up Mt. Gretna Campmeeting are summer cottages but "Why Not?" is a fully remodeled, fully new-tech foam insulated cottage that can handle Pennsylvania's harshest winters. You'll find the warm gas central heat and the propane lookalike propane stove warm and inviting during the winter season.

Our guests can use all the areas of the cottage including the high efficiency washer/dryer. There is parking for 1 car beside the cottage off of 1st. Street. The large wrap around porch is what defines Mt. Gretna. You can walk around most evenings and end up on somebody's else's porch having a nice glass of wine.

Most of the spring summer, and fall Tammy and I are staying in one of our three renovated cottages. Yes we caught the Gretna renovation bug but that's another story which should be told over a glass of wine. We are usually only minutes away should you have any problems or concerns.
Mt. Gretna is a bustling art/music cottage community that hosts musicals & plays from NY in the Mt. Gretna Playhouse. The annual Mt. Gretna Art Show brings in 20,000 of our friends to view a juried art festival each August. Also we boast one of the best ice cream shops in PA called the Jigger Shop Ice Cream Parlor. One of our favorite things kids (and adults) like to do is go to the Mt. Gretna Lake & Beach. Going to this lake is like going back in time where you can bring your own toys/food and swing off of monkey vines, trapeze and platforms under the watchful eye of our wonderful lifeguards. 4 restaurants are within walking distance of the cottage. Just a short walk through the tall pines brings you to the Hideaway, Le Sorelle, The Timbers, or the Mt. Gretna Pizzeria.

Tammy & I live just north of Hershey and have lived here all of our lives. Tammy just retired as a middle school math teacher and I'm winding down my career as a Delta Airlines pilot. Both Tammy and I used to come to Mt. Gretna as kids. Tammy's family came for the ice cream at the Jigger Shop, I came to sit at the Mt. Gretna Tabernacle for the Methodist revivals. Guess who has the better memories! When we had kids we'd bring them to Mt. Gretna to enjoy the Mt. Gretna Lake & Beach, the Jigger Shop, the musicals at the Mt. Gretna Playhouse and bicycle ride with them on the rails and trails that goes through Mt. Gretna. After they were off to college we were looking for something to do and came up with the idea of buying a cottage in Mt. Gretna to maybe retire here someday. After 2.5 years restoring our first cottage ("One Fine Landing") the restoration bug bit us and we subsequently now have 3 restorations under our belt, "One Fine Landing," While We're At It," and now "Why Not." We now are going to take a break and just enjoy using them ourselves and renting our cottage homes to folks who want to experience the charm of this village we call Mt. Gretna. However there is this cottage on 2nd street......
