You are viewing The Country Suite. Our circa 1832 mill in a most unique and picturesque setting on an island only 6 minutes from the 401, is the perfect location for a tranquil getaway in any season. This large suite is on our second floor. You enter through the main mill door and proceed up the original stairs. Beautifully decorated with kitchenette and ensuite . We are on an island between 2 waterfalls, 10 min to Prince Edward County, 30 min to Kingston and 20 min to Belleville.

Le logement
Along with our already unsurpassed cleaning protocols, we have now implemented a chemical free steam sanitizing protocol. To help ensure the safety of our guests and to give adequate time for preparation, we are leaving ample time, as guildelines recommend, resulting in slightly later check ins and slightly earlier check outs.

Our circa 1832 stone mill is uniquely situated on an island in the Salmon River between two one lane bridges and two waterfalls just 6 minutes from the 401 in the tiny picturesque hamlet of Lonsdale, the subject of many artists and photographers. We are only a 10 minute drive to the County and a 30 minute drive to Picton.

During the fall and winter months enjoy the outdoor all season hot tub by the river and waterfall. There are several nearby cross country ski/snowshoe locations and walking trails, first class performances at Belleville's Empire and Kingston's Grand Theatre and many other seasonal attractions in our area during the cooler months. Check out each area's websites for more details.
The mill is accessed by a one lane bridge on and off the island.

YOUR PRIVATE SUITE is a lovely, 575 sq. foot open concept suite on the second floor of our home, a converted circa 1832 flour/grist mill. My husband and I also reside here, however, the building is very much like an Inn and The Country Suite on the 2nd floor is completely private. The stairs leading to the second floor are the original mill stairs and therefore, are a little steeper than normal stairs. It is a large 4 storey building with the main entrance to the mill being shared with us. You have open access to come and go as you wish.
There is plenty of room outside under a covered pergola by the river for dining, or other seating around the garden, by the waterfalls and on the front porch as well. Hot tub, boats and bicycles are all included in your stay free of charge.

The suite has a self catering kitchenette. We do not provide meals, however, a selection of teas, coffee and cream for beverages, sugar, spices, cooking oil and honey are all provided in your suite and we are happy to help with any other little necessities. There is a living area with a flat screen t.v., electric fireplace, dining area and private bathroom, and bedroom area. The bed is a comfy queen size with a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress and top quality bedding. We provide all towels, toiletries and linens. We encourage you to bring your own food and prepare light meals in your private kitchenette as the closest restaurant is 6 km away and there are no stores in the immediate area. You may also use the outdoor bbq. There are lots of dining options in Napanee, Picton and Belleville and Kingston. Napanee is 15 minutes east and the other towns are 20-30 min.

Accès des voyageurs
With waterfront on three sides, you'll likely want to spend some time on the river or even swim in the waterfalls. You have full access to our canoe, kayaks and peddle boat as well as 2 touring bicycles with helmets for seeing the countryside. A waiver must be signed prior to using the facilities due to the inherent dangers of being near the water. Relax and dine in comfy swivel chairs under the covered pergola on the patio which has a barbeque/fire pit area and hot tub beside the waterfalls. Feel free to pick some fresh, organic herbs and greens from our vegetable gardens to add to your meals. There are also sitting areas on the front porch, at the waterfall and in the garden.

FREE ONE DAY PASS TO PROVINCIAL PARKS from May 1-October 31. INCLUDED WITH YOUR STAY SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY

Autres points à prendre en note
Minimum two night stay. Longer stays also welcome. A waiver must be signed before using our watercraft. WIFI is available for checking e-mails etc. Due to our location, we are unable to offer our guests unlimited WIFI and therefore streaming of live media is not available. There are movie channels on the t.v.
Guests must be able to climb stairs. We have a cat and a lovebird. Neither of our pets go into the suite.

Enjoying nature is the main occupation here. Sitting under a willow tree beside the waterfalls or paddling up the river can really eat up a day. The river is part of an historic canoe route and many enthusiasts brave the rapids in May. The river quietens come June for relaxing paddles. It is the river that gives this place it's magical vibe and brings the wildlife for our pleasure. Great Blue Herons, Eagles, Otters, Beavers, Muskrats, Geese, Ducks, Swans, Turtles, song birds and many others are all happy to call Lonsdale home. You never know who is going to drop by next. The grounds are full of flowers and birds and the sound of the waterfalls makes this an idealic spot to just kick back and enjoy.
Prince Edward County and the surrounding area is a lovely place to visit all year long. Make lasting memories with country drives, walks or bicycle trips and canoeing or kayaking on the river for as long as the weather stays fine. The county also offers many fine restaurants, shopping, beaches, and a wide variety of attractions. Great places to cross country ski at nearby recreation areas in the winter months. Nearby Menzel Nature Preserve is 10 minutes away for a hike, Vanderwater Park is 30 minutes away and Frontenac Provincial Park, one hour's drive is a huge park with many and varied hiking trails for the enthusiast. Our pass provides you with free entrance.

My husband Jerry and I bought The Lonsdale Mill just after we were married, 35 years ago this Spring, thinking that someday we would turn it into a bed and breakfast. After many years of converting the old stone building into a home and raising two children here (who have now left for pastures not necessarily greener), we have decided to share our home with others who could benefit from some beautiful scenery and peace and tranquility. Our first Country Suite opened in April 2014 was such a success that we opened our second suite, The Miller's Retreat in April 2016. We do not offer breakfast, however, each suite has suitable cooking facilities. The Country suite with it's neat little kitchenette and outdoor bbq and a full kitchen and outdoor bbq in The Miller's Retreat. My husband and I have both tirelessly devoted our every weekend and more to making our island home a place too beautiful and restorative not to share with others. We are a very laid back couple who love music, dancing and cooking new and exiting dishes, especially Asian and all things spicy. We have one little cat and one lovebird. For years we travelled with our kids through Canada and the U.S in our Volkswagen camper van. We've recently retired in 2017 and are starting to do a little more comfortable travelling during the winter. We both look forward every day to working on new projects to further enhance the property for our guests as we want every one who comes to enjoy themselves here and wish they didn't have to leave. Hope to see you soon.
