Carol made us feel very welcome and was great company to talk to! She had great suggestions for food and even supplied us with bikes to get to the Fryeburg Fair (which was a short 2 mile ride down the road!). We will definitely come back next time!

Parking a car in this driveway, off a busy main road is a challenge. If possible try to back in (during the day) to make an easier exit onto the road and try to avoid a left turn. It's easier to go right then make a visible turn. The shower (no tub) in the main bath is very small, as is the whole bathroom area for the number of rooms in this home . Cell phone use can be spotty, unless you have a "smart phone" with a good provider. If you are a sound sleeper, the noise from delivery trucks, early in the morning, won't annoy (URL HIDDEN) a very busy and nosy road all day long. The hostess offers room in the refrigerator (a nice treat) to store your personal items and is very congenial. Also, if you are a cat lover, there are 2 in residence. Just keep your room door closed to keep them out if desired.

I am very sad to read all the negative things that this person, whom I opened my home to, decided to focus on. I work very, very hard to make my home as comfortable as can be and have spend thousands of HARD EARNED dollars over the past year and a half improving the property since becoming an Airbnb host, with the hope that by remaining an Airbnb host, I can continue on this path to improve this beautifully unique antique home. Without this extra income ,as a single woman, I an unable to make any further improvements, (and frankly I sometimes struggle with affording the regular maintenance!) I saw that this guest also had a negative experience at the last place she stayed! I suggest that she stick to the homogenized hotel experience and leave the wonderfully funky airbnb style lodging to more open minded travelers. Some responses to some of her complaints: I just had a professional carpet cleaning company clean all the carpets in the house two weeks prior to her stay. The "carpet on top of a carpet" is new and I thought it was a cute way to add color to the room that is unfortunately, out of my budget right now to re-carpet. There is nothing hiding underneath. I have only lived here a couple of years and have tried to do the best I can with the (Unfortunately) dated wall to wall carpeting in this house. I don't like it either, but in the deep cold of winter, the extra insulation this carpet affords outweighs the drab colors and dated designs. I advised her of the size of the bathroom and the fact that is was shared during her inquiry. She chose the busiest week of the whole year to stay at my home, knowing it was a full house. There was a fan and an air conditioner in the room if they needed to mask the sound of the trucks. I live on a main road, and this is CLEARLY noted in my profile. I had plenty of extra towels if she wanted one or two, or five. Some are in a wooden bucket in a common area, in plain sight. A large supply of wash cloths and a few hand towels are in plain view in the bathroom, along with a basket for soiled ones so I can keep up with the washing. She never asked for any other towels. I have a large supply of maps and brochures kept on a shelf right next to the kitchen table, which I offer my guests if they are new to the area, and which I frequently give them to keep, a "White Mountains" Coffee Table Book, as well as a book about Boston and one about Portland, Maine, and a very informative book of White Mountain hikes that I offer to my guests to do research for hikes. She seemed to be here just to go to the fair, which is two miles away on the same road, so I didn't offer any of these specialty publications to her, but certainly would have if she asked. There are so many other comments I could respond to, but most of all I would like to state that she booked a room in a busy house on the main road, with two cats, during the busiest week of the year and she complained about street noise. Shake my head. Go stay at a chain next time and pay double or triple what I charged you here. Maybe for three times the money, you would find anything to complain to them about. Did I mention that during this time, my dear sweet sister was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given a really tragic and sad prognosis? I have three other jobs that I work to survive, and this week was a very stressful and sad time personally. I am sorry that the negative things you found to complain about outweighed the conversations we had at my kitchen table, when I gave you one of my special bath tablets to soak your sore feet. Please take a moment and read the kind reviews from the other guests who stayed at my house during this same week.

Wonderful house, much nicer on the inside, than the pictures show. Carol was a great host and very accommodating even for a 930 check in.

Carol is a gracious and warm host. She is an artist and the special touches in her home reflect that. There is lots of exposed wood and comfortable nooks to sit and read or think- or gaze at the mountains out the back. There is also an outdoor hot tub with a glorious view of the stars at night. The only downside is that is sits on a main road and there is traffic at all hours that you can hear at night... but the location is also very convenient to either North Conway or the lakes region at a better price. My daughter and I enjoyed it very much.

Carol has a lovely cozy log cabin with lots of Bohemian flair, great views of the mountains and lots of nooks and carnies to curly up and read. She was very nice and welcoming, the room was well equipped and the shared bath was just down the hall. Two things to note note: - she has 2 very nice cats and the house is right on RT 302 which is quite a busy road.

Unfortunately, Peter did not read my profile or my guests' reviews or he would have seen that I clearly and frequently mention both the traffic issues and the cats. He noticed the cats upon check in and when I said that they are mentioned both in my copy and in my listing notes, he mentioned that he hadn't read them. I did feel badly about the surprise to them but they visited with me and other guest for a while during the evening and his wife seemed to be comfortable enough. I do try to be thorough about cleaning but I do have carpets. My house is right on Rt 302, which is the mani road through town.

I am an artist and educator who loves to travel and explore new cultures. I have traveled extensively through Europe, Central America, the Caribbean, as well as up and down the East and West coasts of the USA. I hope to explore more of Canada and the Maritime Provinces, the Southwest and Northwest USA.
I think I enjoyed Italy most of all, with the amazing art and history, as well as the wonderful people I met, and certainly the food was incredible, as expected.
I couldn't live without Lobster and fresh veggies, and without seeing the ocean once in a while. My homemade Salsa is a staple in my fridge year round!
I need music in my life and I need to be creative at some level most of the time.
Reggae music, classic rock, blues and jazz fill my airspace at home or in the car. Stone Mountain Arts and Meadowbrook are nearby music venues that have some great acts coming up.
Netflix is one of the best things! I catch so many indie movies and foreign movies that I would not otherwise take the time to find. I have basic cable in the common rooms for guests who desire a little down/tube time.
I hosted foreign students for the summers when my children were growing up, and I have couch surfed in Amsterdam, as well as hosted here. I enjoy sharing food and stories with locals wherever I travel and try to teach children stories and songs in every place I visit.
As a host, I really enjoy letting guests know a little history of the area, telling them where my favorite restaurants and nature spots are, as well as sharing the comfortable home I have created, while throwing in a few extras to make them feel welcome and special!
My 1930's log home is just the place to kick back and enjoy a cozy fire with amazing views of the Presidential Range, either in the wood stove or outside around the fire pit. Warm wood interior and a cozy vintage kitchen make it a great home away from home. Should you choose to venture out, the quaint nearby villages in Fryeburg or North Conway Village and Jackson gives lots of opportunity for exploring classic New England. There are unique shops, great "Valley Original" restaurants as well as tax-free outlet shopping just across the border. Portland and Old Orchard beach are just 50 miles away if you want ocean and a real coastal town experience, but the Saco River and a public beach, are just a couple of minutes down the road. Bring your kayaks and canoes or rent from one of the well-run outfits nearby.
There is a paved, 4 mile biking/walking trail just across the street and, of course, miles and miles of world-class unspoiled hiking trails in my backyard. The AT crosses the Presidential Range.
Summer is a great time to experience the Mount Washington Valley and the coast of Maine. Why not enjoy it from a home away from home?
I am not fluent in all the languages I listed but I am working on it and do enjoy the chance to learn more.
This last bit is my response to a recent guest's feedback about my home: I hope it will help future travelers decide if my home is a good fit for the experience they are hoping to have!
Kathy and her group wanted to rent just two rooms for two couples, and to pay for a fifth guest who would sleep on the floor of one of the rooms. They paid the $20 extra person fee, but since I had an empty twin room, I let their friend use it with no extra charge, though I did have a cot and an air mattress that he could have used. I want my guests to feel like family and I would have done this for a family member!
I asked Kathy and her husband if there was anything I could do differently to make their stay more comfortable. They had a few suggestions and since these things are not clear on my listing, I thought I would address them here.
My home is on the main road, (There are only two main roads in Fryeburg!) and though there is a small commercial area across the street with trucks conducting business, there is absolute quiet between cars, and shouldn't be portrayed as a constant, city-type, noise situation. It is quiet at night for the most part, but since we are in the mountains, there is still commercial traffic that must pass here to get to and from all the shops, hotels, and restaurants in North Conway and beyond. It's how supplies get here!
I bring the center of the house to the rear, where the non-stop, serene mountain views and comfortable furnishings are designed to help keep guests relaxed. The Adirondack chairs out back are situated to watch the beautiful sunsets or star gaze!
The kitchen is quaint. I live here with my two dear cats. I love the way the kitchen is rustic but full of cool, funky things, and also good quality cookware, knives, and antique dishes, appropriate for the age of the house. I open my refrigerator and spice cabinet to travelers who choose to cook. These are things you will not find in an over-priced, impersonal hotel room. This is part of the draw to Airbnb for me! I like to spoil people!.
I do not pay for a cable upgrade. I do not watch tv personally and feel that basic cable and High Speed internet is more in tune with the travelers I have hosted for the most part. The local channel "Outside TV" has been a favorite for my guests, as they have mostly been outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, Skiers/boarders.
Kathy mentioned an idea that I should have locking door knobs on the bedrooms, but that is the exact opposite of the feeling I am creating here. It is a safe place, and I do not want to promote a false feeling of insecurity. I believe that people are good, and I trust the system that Airbnb has created. I don't believe that an Airbnb traveler, who goes through the system of being verified, wants to travel here, pay to spend the night, and then steal from me or from other guests. I am sticking to this idea and my belief that people are good. My things are here too, and I don't lock my bedroom door.
