Le logement

Distant Shores is one of four homes known as the Mendocino Coast Dunes Retreat. It is an excellently maintained and updated two-bedroom, one-bath 1950s Mendocino vacation rental home that is perfect for two couples or a small family.

It boasts a spacious kitchen, a deck with room to enjoy the outdoors as well as privacy to soak in the spa or sit and enjoy the fire-pit (firewood not provided). Both of the queen size bedrooms have a sliding door directly to the deck & spa area. The complete bathroom also houses the washer/dryer and is near the back sliding doors.

The path leading to MacKerricher State Park and Beach is just around the corner. Once you make the trek (15-20 min.) through the dunes, you'll be greeted by the panoramic view of pristine beach and ocean views - great for quiet walks, picnics, and communing with the natural beauty of your surroundings! You can even bring your dogs, though a nightly fee applies. Call us if you wish to reserve all 4 homes for your next family or business gathering.

This was a nice and private place for my family. The openness of the home made it very roomy. It is only heated by the gas fireplace in the living room, so it can get a bit chilly in the bedrooms. The house was fully stocked, which was really convenient. There's a nice trek to the very untouched and beautiful beach, but we warned that you have to hike through a sandy dune to get there, but by 5 yo was able to do it and my hubby hiked with my 2 yo, so it's doable and very worth it. Close enough to town if you are needing items or eat out. Didn't have to do any cleaning and such like some other rentals I've stayed at, so that is a definite plus, but I did it anyways bc I'm so used to it. Having a dishwasher and washer/dryer was so convenient for my family. The property is not fully enclosed, so if you have pets or like your kids to play outside, it's not convenient to. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay.

Beautiful quiet grassy setting next to huge sand dunes at 10mile beach ! Our 3 year old loved running on the huge lawn around the hot tub. We walked to the beach and flew kites in the dunes. Totally relaxing vacation for me, my adult children and grandchild.

Great, well-equipped house near the sand dunes, ocean, and the beach.

I enjoyed my stay in this home. It is relatively far from downtown, which can be seen as a plus or minus. I greatly appreciated the home was dog-friendly and the yard was huge (although not fenced). I also enjoyed the private path through the sand dunes. The hot tub was also really a great touch. The beds were pretty comfortable with plenty of extra blankets and towels. The heater worked great. A couple things could definitely use improvement: There is very little privacy. There are no actual bedroom doors. There are these wooden slat sliding doors, like for closets, that don't really close or lock. The bathroom also didn't have a lock. The wifi doesn't work well, which I understand given that it's a very secluded area (part of the charm, I guess). It wasn't as clean as I would have liked. Just a lot of crumbs on the floors and stray hairs in the shower. Other than that, we enjoyed ourselves. Loved the Fort Bragg area. I probably wouldn't stay at this house again. Not sure it was worth the price.
