Inoubliable.

Federica and I were guest of Diego and Valentina for six nights. Their house is no less than an architectural masterpiece that was built one year ago in Solor, 4 km from San Pedro de Atacama. At night, when everything around is dark and the lights inside the house are lit up, it looks like a starship that has just landed in the desert after having travelled through the amazing star-filled sky above. Outside, the house is made of adobe. Inside, the floor, walls and asymmetric ceiling are covered with white wood. We, as hosts, were given a "wing" of the house consisting of a small room that was the entrance, a large bedroom with an extremely comfortable bed and a private bathroom. There is an electrical heater that warms up the room very well. In our room, one windows allowed us to enjoy the view of the yard and at night we could see some stars outside of the partially glass made ceiling (!). The guest also have access to the main room of the house, that is shared with Diego and Valentina This space is again magical, with the light penetrating from the numerous windows, several couches and a stylish heater that is able to increase the inside temperature in the cold nights of Atacama desert. The house is full of charm and decorated with taste and class, both reflecting the charisma and personality of Diego and Valentina, and is decorated with paintings, bolivian aguayos, old european furniture, carpets, design chairs and porcelain cups that all add to the glamour of the place. We had also access to a library full of new and ancient books, of note a 1776 edition of Homerus two masterpieces. We felt blessed and privileged to be able to stay there. Diego has a degree in Philosophy and is a writer, editor and owns his own bookstore that is adjacent to the house. It is the only bookstore within the radius of 100 KM. It might seem like a big (crazy :-) ) bet to open such a business in the desert, but Diego certainly won that bet, as I saw several customers during our six days stay. You can read a full report on the library here (URL HIDDEN) Valentina is an accomplished archeologist and anthropologist working in the SPA branch of Antofagasta university. Communication was very detailed before our arrival. We were welcomed warmly. We were always put at ease. Breakfast was delicious and the time of breakfast could be adjusted to our needs. When we went high on the mountains, Diego and Valentina borrowed us their ponchos, and this was highly appreciated. Valentina sat down with me to carefully plan our week. She also gave us hints on what to see and where to eat in Santiago. Every day, when we returned from our activities, it was great to have someone to talk to and share impressions and thoughts. Every afternoon we were offered tea as we were good old friends....

A brief note on activities:we did rent a Peugeot 208 at Calama airport and with that we were able to go to Piedras Rojas, Lagunas altiplanicas, Valle de Arcoiris,Valle de la Luna,Valle de Marte,Pukara de Quitor. The only thing you can't do on your own is Salar de Tara, and in this case you need to go with an agency and a 4x4.For all these activities you will need the "German map". Diego and Valentina lent us a copy during our stay, and of course you can buy one copy in the bookstore.

Diego and Valentina are absolutely wonderful people, they made our stay so easy and we're so helpful; they provided a beautiful breakfast every morning (even when we got up at 4 to see the geysers!!) and plentiful information about what to see and do. Their home is a real gem, beautifully designed and totally unique. A 2 minute drive away from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro, their home is in a great location with the most beautiful panoramic views. If visiting San Pedro, this is the place to stay!!! Thank you both so much for welcoming us so warmly into your beautiful home! X

A peaceful and beautiful home in the Atacama desert, close enough to San Pedro to have access to lively restaurants and activities and far enough from the town to enjoy the beauty and silence of the desert and stunning sky views. The property is a beautiful home with a unique architectural design that blends with the natural beauty of the location. The hosts, Valentina and Diego, are amazing. They have a deep connection with the people and life of the desert and gave us all sort of valuable information that made our stay much more meaningful. The bookstore, La Librería del Desierto, next to the house, is a welcoming place to read and find unique books. If in doubt, Diego will guide you through the collections to make the right choice. Valentina with her archeology background was always available to give valuable insights to plan visits and make the best of our stay in the area. The room was lovely and we had access to the full house to enjoy, for example, tea at night by the fire. Breakfast was also delicious. Highly recommended!!!You will make better use of the location and facilities if you have a car, though taxis can take you back and forth to San Pedro.
