This is going to be an unusual review because it is not about Arto's rental apartment which I'm sure would have been everything advertised in Airbnb. This is review of the host, his compassion and willingness to work with the client.
My wife and son were to fly to Helsinki on July 3 for a two weeks stay at Arto's while visiting with my daughter living in Finland. However, my other son passed away on July 2. I contacted Arto right away because we considered for them to still fly to Helsinki in order to be with my daughter after she learned of her brother's death. We went back and forth on making a final decision until the very last minute we decided it was better for them to remain in the United States and have my daughter fly back immediately.
We informed Arto of our final decision on July 3 and despite the strict cancellation policy where there would be no refund within 7 days of the start of the rental - Arto was willing to refund half the amount. He did not have to do this and we would have accepted losing the entire rental amount because business is business. However, Arto worked with us throughout this sad situation which allowed us to remain flexible in our travel plans up until the very last minutes. This was a great relief for the family while dealing with the turmoils of a sudden death. While we have the support of many family and friends - it was good to know we also had Arto's support throughout the past 3 weeks.
We intend to visit Helsinki one day and we hope to stay in Arto's apartment, if for no other reason than to meet the man who helped us during our time of need. Thank you Arto.
