Motunau is a sleepy fishing village, peaceful & a beautiful area. Be great to welcome you to this special place. Sandy Bay is our wee gem of a beach a great spot for swimming(summer), walking and having a picnic. Motunau is a known area for fossil hunting and fossicking.
We are about 50mts above sea level so we have good ocean views.
As it's colder months we can loan a small TV with a usb port if you want to hunker down and watch a movie or two.

Autres remarques

If you have bikes and or kayaks its a great place for that. Lots of cyclist and kayakers take advantage of the good roads and river access to the sea. Motunau Island is just a short paddle away. We have Hector dolphins, seals, and one of the few homes to the white flippered penguin. Sandy Bay is a safe swimming beach and is great for walks and taking a picnic/packed lunch and snacks. Its less then 10 minutes walk down the track from our place or you can park your car in the Sandy Bay car park. Have a check online of the tides as low tide is best.

Wow. Cozy, rural, secluded and elevated view of the ocean and an amazing clear night sky. When it's clear you can see all the way to Banks Peninsula near Chrch. The place was clean and tidy with decent cooking supplies and a warm wood burning stove. The Beach is accessible at low tide but is still nice at high tide with a quiet inlet where small fishing boats put in.

We spent 5 nights in this nice place ! It's a little place, but it really worked. Everything you need is there. The beach is 5 minutes walking, beautiful and quiet area. Unfortunately for us, the weather was really bad. Lots of wind, so it was not the best in the caravan. But when the weather is good, it's a really nice place ! Jo is such a great host. Thanks for your kindness !

We had a fantastic stay at Jo's charming sleep out. My husband and I just moved to South Island from New York, so we've been exploring as much as possible. Jo's made for the perfect stay with a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy space to read and spend time together by the fire, and a comfortable bed with heated blanket for a peaceful sleep. The views are incredible and we watched both a beautiful sunrise and sunset next to the ocean with green rolling hills just behind the sleep out. The beach access is five minutes down the road on foot, and we enjoyed strolling down it very much. It is a bit more remote, but that was the appeal for us. Jo greeted us warmly with all of the information needed. She also thoughtfully left us fresh eggs, muesli and milk for the morning. She was absolutely wonderful with communication. If Jo will have us back, we will absolutely be there! Thank you Jo!

Had a lovely stay, nice wee place to go to get away from the city for a night. Good service and everything was as expected to be. Would definitely recommend to others.

Lovely peaceful spot to stay if you are wanting a relaxing break away. Cosy fire and comfy bed with lots of homely touches. Quirky wee bach with attached caravan for sleeping in. Despite grip tape on the ramp be wary of in winter as slippery on a frosty morning! Thanks for sharing your delightful place Jo.

Hello & Kia Ora ( good health), I'm Jo and have lived @Motunau and the Hurunui area since 1989, so a good while now. I grew up in Lyttelton and seem to end up living by the sea which is great as I really enjoy swimming, beach walks with our faithful mutt Stella. I also really enjoy getting out on our boat and seeing the beautiful ocean we have hector dolphins, penguin's, seals and when passing orca's are migrating we know we are in very special and wonderful place. We fish and when time allows play golf at our local Scargill Golf club. I work part time in Christchurch and travel in for that as required. Apart from above I enjoy reading, cooking ( and eating!), watching quality movies and enjoying music and the occasional concert/gig, exploring and always learning new skills and having adventures. I am very family/ whanau/ friend orientated and love being with our now adult children, we have 5 and two grandchildren/ mokopuna. They are Mark and my finest achievements' and I'm incredibly proud of them all. We have some very lovely friends and when we get the chance we like to have a good catch up with them and there is always a lot of laughter!. My aim for this year is to learn new skills ( sailing a yacht is on the agenda!) and do some more travel if possible. I have a great love & respect for this land, sea and sky and still find a lot of joy in exploring it and meeting new and interesting people. I hope you can join us and enjoy it too,
