Yani's mother, Isabel, was the actual host during my entire stay. Isabel provided an exceptional service. She will go far and beyond her call of duty as a host to make sure you're safe. She makes great suggestions, and has reasonably priced contacts should you decide to travel outside of Havana. Before you decide anything run it by her. I found the convenience factor was far more worth it than trying to get it cheaper elsewhere. There was an issue on my arrival, as the other travelers decided to stay additional days, they moved me to another room. (1 set of bunk beds, and two queen beds). It was nice as I slept in every bed. After 3 days I moved to the smaller bed room, private with my own living room space that I had originally booked. It really didn't matter as the other room was locked and they will not let anyone in to sleep in your space. You pay for your own private room. Pros: The house is located in China Town, a 15-20 mins walk away from old Havana and Malecon and a 30-40 mins walk to La Rampa via the Malecon. Don't let the sketchy, ghetto, run down area scare you. It's really safe. The rooms are clean and private, and each with their own bathroom and lock. There are a few good restaurants within a 5-10 mins walking distance. There is also WIFI 100 feet AWAY from the house, you can't beat that in Cuba. Unfortunately you have to stay at the spot, if you walk away, you will loose bars quickly and you'll have to pay again. Breakfast is an additional cost, but it was good, and Isabel has two reasonably priced options. Cons: House is on a corner street and both rooms are on the first floor, facing each corner wall. The noise is unbearable. I had a very hard time sleeping. Bring ear plugs. There is also a 50/50 chance to none of hot water. Personally I live in hot water even during the hot CA summers, so It took a day to get used to, not a big issue as your body is going to crave cold water anyway. Cuba is hot! To have breakfast you have to go up swirling staircases to the third floor. If you have bad knees or injured your foot while traveling that might be a problem. The space to go up is really tight and narrow. I scratched myself a few times trying to go up. You have a street view with a nice breeze when you eat breakfast.

The Good: Location was good (Chinatown); walking distance to Parque Central 8-10 minutes. Several good eateries nearby, including a bakery literally steps away. Liked having a separate area for TV, table, regrigerator, sofa, etc., separate from the bedroom and bathroom. The Bad: Hella noisy! There are no noise ordinances so be prepared for interrupted sleep; ear plugs and sleeping pills will help.

Jany and Isabel, Jany's mother, were very nice and approachable. The room had everything you need to be comfortable (fan and ac, privacy, bathroom in the room.) They have a refrigerator right outside the room from which you can take some sodas, beer or bottled water and then pay before you leave. When I arrived I spent some time speaking with Isabel to learn about Cuba. She was very very nice and offered some suggestions about where to go and what to do to not see the touristy Havana. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
