We sleep 2-4 in each cottage and are close to The Lake District, with easy access to Penrith, Carlisle, Scotland and many more places worth visiting. There are several local pubs and cafes that serve great food too. You’ll love Gamblesby because of the outdoor opportunities/wildlife, the peaceful village, the comfy bed, the fully-equipped kitchen, the views and scenery. We are good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets).

Helm and Herdwick Cottages are perfect for couples, featuring a character beamed ceiling, en-suite bedrooms and in Helm exposed red sandstone walls.

Autres remarques

We do offer Wi-Fi for guests, but as we are in a rural location the signal can be variable from day to day. (It is usually fine for checking e-mails/(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) etc, but not good enough for downloads or the use of You Tube/Spotify etc)
We are dog-friendly, and happy to welcome well-behaved dogs along with their owners, but request that guests don't allow their four-legged friends in the bedrooms or on the furniture.

We visited in December this year and stayed in the Herdwick Cottage. We had a pretty dissapointing visit. On arrival we were shown in to the property and told not 'to fiddle' with the storage heaters. She also asked for our card detals so that she could take the money for the electricty we would be using after we had gone. we said we would pay cash instead because we had seen reviews saying she had tried to take extra money for damages. The property itself is nice, but was let down by a number of issues. There was only 4 lightbulbs working out of 10 downstairs! The bedding in the room we had was very dated. The general cleanliness of the cottage was quite poor with there being large amounts of dust around the property. The property is in a nice enough location if you are looking to go 'off grid'. You will have to travel a good 4 miles to find your nearest pub or restaurant. We had the feeling we were being watched whilst we were there, which is probably because the cottage is right next to the owners property. We both had a terrible nights sleep- the matress topper didnt even fit the bed. The bed was small and uncomfortable. When we were leaving she said we had used 36 units of electricty costing an extra £9 pounds, even though most of the lights werent working and we were out all day and turned everything off. Lastly, the £22 service charge baffles me as we were asked to strip the bedding, empty the bins and clean the property before handing the keys back. We only saw Ruth once on arrival and the welcome pack consisted of out of date crisps, a packet of cous cous and some random stir fry sauce (probably things left behind by other guests).

I am a mum, grandma, wife and general good friend. I always try to have a positive outlook on life and help people where I can.
I am a volunteer with St John Ambulance and a Community First Responder for the Ambulance Service.
I have lived abroad for many years in Spain, Germany and the USA, and have met some fascinating people along the way.
I love exploring new places. I really appreciate those little extra touches that make a stay special - I'm not really one for "roughing it" (I did that in my youth) ! I have holiday cottages myself, so am always conscious of looking after other people's belongings and leaving things in a good state.
My motto in life would be "Enjoy what life throws at you, and appreciate the little surprises along the way"
