David and Karen are truly extraordinarily seasoned in hospitality matters. They save no effort in ensuring that your stay in their home is really enjoyable. Their knowledge of the area and their tips very much allow their guests to make the best of a visit to this wonderful enclave of the Appalachian mountains. As an added bonus, if you are keen of it, you can be exposed to their efforts in the caring for their farm animals and their organic vegetables garden. David recommendations allowed me to challenge Roan Mountain uphill bicycle ride as well as the old railroad trails. They even invited me to an after eclipse gathering for food and drinks of their friends in the area. I will recommend 100%, without hesitation, to anyone wishing for a clean, cozy and affordable place around Roan Mountain to go to David's and Karen's place.

David's place is primarily for AT thruhikers and has the cool vibe that goes with that. I stayed here with friends to hike in the gorgeous areas around NC & TN and felt very comfortable in the "glamping" accommodations. No for everyone, but perfect for those of us with incurable wanderlust! LOVED the breakfast with fresh eggs & the barn visit with goats, chickens & horses. David is very knowledgeable about the area and we enjoyed chatting at breakfast and evening time. Highly recommend.

We took your advice and renovated the kitchen. Painted all the walls, finished painting all the cabinets with new hardware and performed a deep clean. Will post pictures shortly.

I loved being at this Hikers' Haven! The location was excellent, the hosts were conscientious, kind and so friendly, and the place was perfect for a solo lady traveler, even not being an AT thru-hiker but just there to hike in the area. Thank you David and Karen for going out of your way to make my stay there so special!

My boyfriend and I were traveling from Raleigh, NC to Kingsport, TN and thought David's place would be perfect for a nights rest. David is so friendly and knowledgeable about the area and always willing to help you or connect you to someone who can assist you with anything. The animals were a major plus so definitely check them out. Would recommend David's place for friends and fellow hikers.

Great place to stay if you are looking for a "hiking hostel" (hosts words). Excellent host. Off of the beaten path unless you are on the Appalachian Trail. There are several different rooms available, so there could be several other guests present too. Excellent host!

David was a great host. Super hospitable and welcoming. The place had the essentials. No frills, but a simple, relaxing place to get some shut eye and meet some fascinating folks hiking the AT. Fun place!
