The Pura Vida has relocated. It is now at Ezell Flats just one mile drive from the Terlingua Ghostown. The Pura Vida is a cozy Retro RV with AC/Heat, coffee machine, inside table, outside fire pit, Coleman Stove, and much more. At the moment there are a couple lights that are not working inside (we provide lanterns), and the shower is also out of commission temporarily, but we have a bathhouse on site which is where most of the RV guests prefer to bathe anyway. Price lowered!!! Come see us!

Le logement

There is no inside cooking allowed but there is a microwave inside for heating food and a Coleman stove outside for cooking. There are basic pots and pans, utensils, paper bowls & plates, nice big coffee cups etc in the Pura Vida and the Cottonwood Store just down the road has most anything you would need for cooking including a large selection of organic foods and drinks.
There's a Flat Screen TV with BlueRay DVD player inside the Pura Vida. This is not a 5 star accommodation but it is a Retro RV that has a very comfortable bed, a great AC/Heater, functioning toilet & shower & ice box.
It is a small but a very reasonably priced BNB and different from the normal everyday hotel room. Add the fact that there is a huge covered common area, shared bathroom with full size shower and toilet and several outdoor cooking stations and a fantastic area to view the stars and this Retro RV has a lot to offer for a small price.

Accès des voyageurs

The entire Pura Vida is accessible to the guest. Great for Cyclists, Bikers, Hikers and Couples headed into the Big Bend State & National Parks. If you have a larger group please view our other RVs named the Rio Grande Rambler Bunkhouse, The Santa Elena Motor Coach and the Terlingua Barndominiums.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

I'm available for any suggestions for your trip to the Big Bend even if you don't stay with us. There's lots to do out here & some ideas only locals know about. Below is a small list of places and people in surrounding cities to visit on your way out to the BB.

Autres remarques

The very comfy firm queen bed in the Pura Vida come with a protective cover and very nice new spa grade pillows with cases. We ask that guests bring their own towel and bedding (sleeping bags work great to "throw-n-go" on the bed. The Pura Vida will be clean when guests arrive and daily cleaning is up to guests. The Pura Vida is a very simple "Retro RV" that's nostalgic and very reasonably priced. The Pura Vida is more or less Glamorous Retro Camping with a warm shower, and comfortable bed in a cozy Retro RV at a great price. Running water is limited to the shower and the toilet utilizes premixed water for safe septic use.

We stayed in the Pure Vida for 4 nights on our visit to Terlingua/Big Bend. The RV itself was exactly what we expected -- small and basic but very clean with a comfortable queen sized bed, excellent AC and a bathroom. There are also chairs, a small table and a fire pit in front so you can sit out and enjoy the stars in the evening. Just a few steps away there's a common area with a lot of amenities including a full-sized bathroom/shower. While the bathroom in the RV is fully functional it is, of course, very small so we opted to use the communal bathroom the majority of the time. The property is very conveniently located to the national park and just a few minutes away from a bunch of dining options. As far as connectivity goes, the WiFi was kind of off and on throughout our stay but Jason is working to find a more stable solution (and honestly you don't go to Terlingua for the great internet connectoin). We did typically have some cell service (AT&T and Verizon), though, so were able to send texts and check email most of the time. Jason himself was an exceptional host and really went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable and got the most out of our stay in the area. Overall, I think the Pure Vida is an incredible value for the price and I would absolutely stay again and recommend Jason's listings to any friend/family traveling to the area!

I really appreciated Jason's quick and kind responsiveness, and Dave was a wonderful, friendly "host." The RV was cool, the bed was comfortable, and the AC worked pretty well. But, there were certain things I felt duped on. The location changed after I made the booking, and the change put it further away from the park. I was not offered anything for the change, I was not even told of the change; I just happened to see the listing changed. This happened regarding the check-in time as well. So screen-shot your original listing/confirmation. I let Jason know I expected to adhere to the original check-in time listed and he did agree to uphold it (but I ended up making it within the new check-in time). There was a big piece of I assume dog? poop on the carpet under the table. Lucky I did not accidentally put my feet or my belongings in it. There were also several dead bugs on the bed. The bathroom smelt bad, even more-so after trying to use it (only #1). Be aware your fully functional toilet is not far off from a port-a-pot. You have to pour water in it to flush it, and I had trouble flushing even just going #1. Was not even going to attempt a #2. So if that kind of thing bugs you, be prepared to use the community bathroom (at least there's that). Also, you are discouraged from using the RV shower, and encouraged to use the community shower (it's obviously shared and you're limited to 5 minutes.) Wifi barely works; don't count on it. Be aware the RV does not have lights. The only lighting for night-time are some candles and a couple of lamps that automatically go off after an annoyingly short amount of time. So bring plenty of lanterns or something if you're gonna want/need the light.

We enjoyed having you Kelsey. I wish we could have been made aware of any issues you might of had while you were staying with us so they might have been addressed and resolved then...I certainly want everyone happy and comfortable with their stay. There is an electric fluorescent light that lights the entire RV under the kitchen cabinets / above kitchen sink I assume you weren't able to see. There are three battery operated camping lights, one touch sensitive light in the bedroom and one motion light in the bathroom. I checked that all were in working order. I checked your Ac and the thermostat was set at 5 which is medium cool setting which could have been increased to a much cooler temperature. The AC in the Pura Vida is cold enough to hand meat at the higher setting so I assume the last guest set it at the medium setting, my apologies. The RVs were relocated in January and I have been sending the new location as well as a gps coordinate (since many places don't even have addresses out here) to all incoming guests and double checked that I had sent that to you prior to your visit...If that was not received I apologize. I've listed these coordinates and a detailed description in the description when the RVs were moved to the new location. I also had in the description the new location and its pluses one of which is even though the new location is only 4 miles further from the National Park it is 4 miles closer to the State Park which centers it almost exactly midway between both parks now and gives an incredible private and much roomier area for guests to view the stars and Milky Way without lights and RV Park guests right on top of you. Regarding the bathroom smell neither I nor the cleaning crew could detect a bathroom smel. Regarding the dog issue the only thing we found under the table was a black plastic handle that went to the broom that had apparently fallen off, my apologies. All RVs do have holding tanks for gray and black water and as I listed in the description we use a septic solution for flushing to combat any odors that may arise from holding tanks....even the most luxurious and expensive RVs can have a periodic back gas smell no matter how hard you try to address it which is why we use a special organic chemical flush in all the RVs which I assume might have occurred when you used it. I made several attempts to recreate the smell without success. The RVs are cleaned 3-4 times weekly and no dogs have been here since early February but I did address your concern with David and Matt and they both said they had no knowledge of this issue. Regarding the showers, all RVs here have fully functioning showers in them but we do encourage guests to use the much larger bathouse shower due to its larger size. Everyone thus far has found the bathouse shower and restroom to be a huge asset not a liability. We suggest (never to demand) 5 minute showers to remind guests that this is a desert where water is a very precious resource and difficult to come by. WiFi is a common problem this far out I agree as is "cell coverage" as you noticed when you had no WIFI nor cell coverage from Alpine all the way to Terlingua. I will list this in the description so all guests will know that unlike the city this can be a challenge in most places this far out of the city. Again we appreciated your staying with us and hope you had a safe trip home. Sincerely Jason

This place is wonderful! The trailer itself is very authentic we loved to stay there. The courtyard with table/chairs and grill is nice too. Trailer is situated at RV park along with two more trailers, very quiet and nice place. Jason is a great host, very responsive and friendly, he helped us a lot. One problem there - very sketchy wifi connection, and since we didn't have mobile network (AT&T) in Big Bend and Terlingua at all, we could only use paper maps, but it is totally fine, we get used to it. Also, there are enormous number of stars at night! We saw even Milky Way which is impossible to see in most places. Thanks Jason, we will definitely come back sometime!

The Pura Vida had the most comfortable bed. Perfect after a long day of hiking in Big Bend (which is really close by). And the stars out there are amazing!!

Traveled with a friend for a girl's weekend, Jason went above and beyond to make us feel at home. We loved the rugged feel and privacy of staying at the RV site while still having basic amenities of bathroom, running water, power, etc. He had many recommendations of spots to visit in the park, which was absolutely beautiful. He was a great host and we had an awesome weekend!

Though I didn't meet him, Jason seems like a nice person. He is very friendly in his communication. But a few things his listing doesn't disclose that I will: The door doesn't lock on the outside (and if it locks from the inside, you got me - I didn't see how it did). There is no refrigerator. It's an ice box, as in Jason will deliver blocks of ice to the RV's refrigerator. It keeps things cool, but it's not a fridge as the listing improperly indicates. The bathroom isn't fully functioning. You're encouraged to use a bath house, which is so close it's not inconvenient though you're sharing one tub/toilet with an RV park community that would rather use city water than their RV's supply. Here's my outlying concern: Before I figured out the shower and toilet don't work like they do in a regular RV (as in, at all) I had GI issues. No big deal ... until you realize that you can't clean up after yourself. How gross ... for the next AirBNBer! And if I couldn't clean it up, how could someone else? It's just not sanitary. So bring your own 409, I guess. I also - and this isn't my host's fault, of course - experienced a brown out. This is Far West Texas, so be aware that the rural power grid is very often (even in late February) ground down to a nub and you won't have AC. I imagine, but don't know for sure, that this is an even bigger issue in warmer months and at peak season (late fall). In short, if you're game, go for it. The location is tops. The taco shop within the RV park is great. There's a grocery immediately across the way selling ice and water and just about anything else you'd need (eg., smoked farm-raised salmon and gouda!). But if you have ANY sort of health issue or are easily skeeved out, research other accommodations. I'll be looking at the El Dorado the next time I'm in the area.

Sorry about the troubles Juliette...the water had been turned off outside by management because a new septic line was being installed. Sorry we both werent informed. The brown outs do happen down here unfortunantly ...weve had them last for several days and we just have to fire up generators, I wish you had called I could have had your generator started and power back on shortly. Regarding the issue of your food poisoning, im very sorry that happened ...I had the cleaning crew totally disenfect the entire RV thoroughly. All cleaning products are under the kitchen sink. We went ahead and ordered a new refrigerator but yes it has been used as an ice box for the longest as the description listed. Sincerely

A buddy and I stayed at the Pura Vida while we visited Big Bend for a weekend trip. It was definitely an off-the-grid experience, but we were ok with that since most of our time was spent in the park or grabbing some food in Terlingua. Although we didn't have a chance to meet up with Jason, he seemed nice and accommodating. We enjoyed our time out there in the desert and sleeping in this Breaking Bad-esque RV was a unique experience in itself.
