Just 3 miles from Glastonbury, Upper Crannel has 200 acres of grassland with the river Hartlake running through the centre of the estate. It has a handsome flock of sheep and the fields are delightful to walk through. One is surrounded by wildlife and there is no noise of traffic. The accommodation is utterly contemporary and luxurious and the views towards Glastonbury Tor to the south and the Mendips to the North are superb.

Le logement

The Barn at Upper Crannel was designed by London architect Richard Paxton. It is on the meticulously run small estate of Upper Crannel. The huge kitchen/dining room and the living room are full of interesting art work and books and are generously equipped.

Accès des voyageurs

The estate is open to visitors to enjoy and there is a garden with benches just by the Barn. Walking in all directions and cycling to Glastonbury is only a matter of 15 minutes.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

Being a shepherd I am around on the estate most of the time and am more than happy to give what local information I can.

The Barn has the most amazing views across the meadows to the Tor. It is so very peaceful there and quite special. Phoebe is such a lovely lady and full of information. You couldn't ask for a better host. Plenty of food left for us, milk, bread, eggs etc. and even dairy free alternatives. Very quirky and different place to stay and a short hop from Glastonbury.

An amazing airbnb. A gem of architecture, beautifully furnished, in a stunning rural location, with a really great host. I thoroughly recommend for a relaxing retreat. We'll be back.

A very relaxing, private, beautiful place to stay. There are plenty of things to do in the area, but to be honest we loved having the chance to relax and feel at home in a wonderfully designed and comfortable house, with a great host, friendly cat, and green fields as far as the eye can see.

We had such a wonderful weekend at Upper Crannel Farm. The house is beautifully decorated and designed: from our bedroom, the large windows offered sweeping views of lush farmland, Glastonbury Tor, and lots of wildlife. Our host Phoebe, who could be seen working on the farm, couldn't do enough to accommodate us. The farm was only a few minutes drive from Glastonbury town and offered us the perfect combination of rural tranquillity and all the joys of Glastonbury. Phoebe very kindly allowed us to stay on until Sunday afternoon so we could enjoy as much time on the farm as possible. We will definitely be back. We are already planning our next visit and want to bring friends. Phoebe tells us that second bedroom in the Barn can be rented for a reasonable £75 extra per night!

This is perfect if you're searching for some peace and quiet in an inspiring setting. You feel like you're inside the view here – great big windows look out almost 360 degrees over the Somerset Levels, and the movement of the birds and weather can be spectacular. Inside, all is warm and welcoming – there’s a clean modern kitchen, interesting books and works of art everywhere, and some really unusual features (we loved the grand fireplace strung with glass decorations). Phoebe was a friendly, knowledgeable host, but hard at work on the farm, so we were left in privacy – and it really is private here, you wouldn’t believe you were only a couple of minutes from Glastonbury. We were invited to stay on all day on the Sunday which made for a properly relaxing weekend escape.

I'm passionate about organic sheep farming and creating habitat for wildlife on my land. Having travelled and trekked in many countries around the world, what drew me to this special site in Somerset was the uninterrupted, tranquil landscape with long views. Here I surround myself with interesting objets d'arts, pictures, books, rugs and classical music.
