A peaceful retreat (near Moncontour) with quick, easy route to beaches, river walks & fishing on the door step.
Very close to ancient forests & beautiful lakes, with plenty of walks, cycling, mountainbiking & kayaking, etc. Under half an hours drive to the northern beaches, an hour from the southern Brittany coast, conveniently located for touring the numerous delights of Brittany. Our own stretch of river, and in a very quiet and peaceful position with lovely unspoilt views.
Though we've only just joined Airbnb, we have been on another site and have full 5* reviews, with ALL of our guests enjoying their stay, and many returning.
You can expect to enjoy a tranquil stay, being able to unwind, and enjoy (the same as everyone else makes a point of commenting on) a full and restful sleep whilst here. Evenings can be spent enjoying your food and/or drinks outside, and with the lack of light pollution, on clear nights, the benefit of extremely clear views of the stars. We have extremely friendly cats that love to curl up on guests laps whilst they relax :)
The elevated position, of our home, offers stunning views, which we appreciate, whatever the season, every day. We love the feeling of being very rural, yet being within a couple of minutes drive or walking distance to the nearby friendly village.
The Gîte sits between what used to be two farmhouses, all built from granite with oak beams, the first house believed to date back to before the 17th century. The Gite was originally housing for the animals, and faces what was originally old granite stables. Ironically, the original farmhouse is now used to stable our two horses during the winter. The Gîte has recently benefited from updating, though has been used as a home for many years. It is tastefully furnished in a traditional French farmhouse style, & has solid antique beds, exposed beams & plenty of character. As the walls are very thick granite, the Gîte stays nice & comparatively cool on very hot days.
The balcony terrace to the front is the perfect place to sit & enjoy breakfast, lunch or supper, as the whole property faces south & benefits from day long sunshine.
There are 2 grand Cypress trees at the entrance of the drive, which leads out to the main paddock area, beyond that mature oaks lead down the hill to the tranquil river.
There is plenty of space for your car too.
We love living here as it is so unspoilt, in fact the place has changed little since it was built before the 17th century. It is so tranquil, but all we need is still so accessible. The friendly local village is just a couple of kilometres of picturesque walk, or drive away & has a small supermarket & filling station, a boulangerie, patisserie, post office, bank, doctors, vets, garage, hairdressers, florist, bar, restaurants, a beautiful church, picnic benches & gorgeous river walks.
Far from the maddening crowd, we enjoy safe & scenic walks straight from the house, on foot, on horse back, by road cycle, or mountain bike on many VTT routes.
My husband is a very keen moutain-biker, and it's heaven for him here, and he will happily show you where to find the best trails, from the easy to the very extreme, all within easy access from here.
He also kayaks on the river, and local lakes, as well as the sea, and collects wild oysters and muscles, and will happily direct you to the his favorite spots.
We own a stretch of river, which is pretty & completely unspoilt, just a short walk down the bottom of a pretty & quiet valley, perfect for a picnic or fishing.
