Hermanus is South Africa's premier seaside and whale watching resort and is a short drive (1h30 mins) from Cape Town and the International airport (1h15 mins). It is well known for its quality and gourmet restaurants. The wine farms in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley are famous for its Pinot and Chardonnay grapes. Hermanus has pristine beaches (Grotto beach has Blue Flag status) and 15km of cliff paths, perfect for whale spotting. Shark Cage Diving and Whale Watching tours are available in the vicinity. The Fernkloof Nature Reserve is one of the richest floral kingdoms in the world and offers hikes of different lengths. Hermanus is also well-known for its craft and food markets as well as its wine and art shows. The annual October Whale Festival is a star attraction. Hermanus can also be used as a base to explore many quaint towns in the Overberg area.
No overnight guests.
Quiet after 11pm.
Please arm the house and beams whenever you are not there. Check all doors are locked before going out and before you retire at night. No smoking please. Use of candles must be monitored. Only use fireplace in winter and check no lighters or matches are left on the top of the Morso. We recycle garbage - the bins are in the garage.
Gerald can answer any questions you may have. Or contact Margot, the host. The gas fire in the sitting room is tricky to operate. If you think you will need it, please make sure you know how to use it before Gerald leaves for the day. Please be warned not to put your face too close to the fireplace when operating. Use the Nespresso machine for coffee or use the bodums provided to make ground coffee. Please do not throw coffee grinds down the plug hole in the sink as they clog the drains. Rather use the dustbins provided.
I am married with 2 girls, one of 24 and one of 19. I am married to Patrick and Vivere is our holiday home. I love reading, keeping fit, the French language, cooking and travel. Our motto is the name of our house: Vivere, which means Dare to Live!
