Country house with beautiful view in Oaxaca´s Sierra Norte hosted by a lovely Zapoteca family that cooks amazing traditional food for a small price in their family run comedor "Casa de Piedra" which is right next to the house that they rent out. Many hiking options start right from the house. The family is very helpful, the house has two bedrooms, a hot shower bathroom, kitchen and a beautiful balcony.

Le logement

We warmly welcome you to our beautiful house in the hills of Benito Juarez!

The ca. 60 m2 house has a spacious kitchen area with a wooden table, six wooden chairs and more seating options. You can cook your own food on a gas oven and enjoy a stunning view on green bloomy fields and the mountains of the Sierra Norte in Mexico. The kitchen is fully equipped for at least six persons. Plates, cutlery, cups and a pot are stored in the kitchen wardrobe.

The great, unique terrace of the house is directly located in the woods and invites for quiet moments of reading books after an exciting hiking trip.

Two cosy bedrooms with double beds offer space for four people to sleep. However there are three more mattresses stored in the open upper floor. Either you can sleep upstairs under the roof or you can add mattresses in the two main bedrooms.

Each of the bedrooms is equipped with wardrobes for your clothes. For entertainment you will find some family games.

In the bathroom is a shower with gas heated hot water and also a water toilet.

About us, your tenants and your neighbors: We are a three generation Zapoteca family consisting of two grandparents, José, Maylet, four children and a friendly dog. The two older boys go to school in Oaxaca. So most of the time we are six people living here. We unfortunately speak very little English. This text has been written by our international volunteers, who stay with us from time to time. Please excuse, if we use an online translation program to answer your request.

Apart from carpentering and farming, we run our small “comedor”/ restaurant “Casa de Piedra” directly in our house. Here we cook traditional regional food from scratch. The corn from the tortillas grows in our fields, some of the vegetables are picked in our or our neighbor´s garden. You are always welcome to eat with us, just let us know, so that we can prepare you a fresh meal suitable to your taste. We mostly offer vegetarian dishes.

Accès des voyageurs

The house is surrounded by hills where we grow our food. You are always welcome in our small family run comedor and cosy comedor living room which has an oven. In the comedor kitchen our family meets in front of the warm cooking fire, where you are also welcome to join us.

Be ready for a bouncy ride to get there, but it is well worth it. One of the most lovely places I have ever been in Mexico. The host family was warm and welcoming. I would love to return.

We loved this beautiful spot. The house is brand new, built by jose. It has two double bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen and great shower with hot water. The road up to the house is a little steep. The views from the farm are beautiful. Jose and his wife maylet and their two children are friendly and welcoming. We walked to the mirador and took a guided tour to la neveria. We needed a kitchen as we have a baby and this house worked perfectly for us as the other cabins in the village do not have kitchens. It is worth bringing food supplies as the village shops are limited. We hope to go back one day.

Beautiful and private cabin with a lovely family in an inspiring community - life at it's best! Jose and his family made us feel at home while accommodating to our schedule and needs. It was a highlight of our trip to Oaxaca. We had an amazing time walking trails within the community, met wonderful people along the way, which ended with great views of the surrounding valleys from the mirador. Thank you Jose and your family for everything, we hope to visit again!

This is a wonderful place to stay for a couple of days or a couple of months. If you are an adventurous hiker or prefer to sit back and read a good book, Jose and his family's house is just perfect. This is a very remote location so be sure to stock up before heading up the mountain and bring some extra pesos for the zip lines and horseback riding. The house has a full kitchen if you wish to cook for yourself or, and we liked this option, eat with the family in their super homey restaurant for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. Meals are roughly 80 pesos per person (that's just $4) and its all you can eat of the tastiest food in all of Mexico. Jose is easy to communicate with and his family is so much fun to be around. Up in the mountains can be much cooler so, bring your warm clothes for the evenings. We highly recommend this airbnb and will stay again soon.
