NO PETS. This is a PRIMITIVE Cabin. Peaceful & quiet. 4 cots (NOT BEDS). Outdoor (not private) rain catchment (no freeze months) system for washing up. Porta John. NO heat or A/C. One electrical outlet in cabin. Fan fine, no heaters allowed. Bring ext cord. Wood stove works but is not to be used as a raging hot heat source in winter. Metal roof & dirt floor w/ indoor-outdoor carpet/rug sections.
This is NOT a sealed cabin, open soffets and no window screens. This is a stay with Mother Nature!

Le logement
Access note: 4 wheel drive is NOT needed to reach the cabin, 2wd vehicles make it just just fine. HOWEVER, in Winter months the possibility of snow or freezing rain here in the Smoky Mountains is ALWAYS present, and may make the driveway dangerous or impassible for non 4wheel drive vehicles.
Although the cabin can be rented throughout the year, we consider it a "three season" cabin as it has a limited heat source with the wood stove and as pourus as the cabin is, shall not be used as a raging hot heat source. NO electrical heaters allowed! A fan is fine in warm months, but bring your own extension cord. We do have a simple strand of lights in the cabin for just enough light during dark hours if needed.
Please be aware this is an "outdoors-ey" stay. Along with the beauty of Mother Nature we enjoy, also comes seasonal critters such as possible snakes, spiders, and other flying stingey and/or ground crawley thingeys... we do our best to mitigate their arrival in and around the area, but of course can't stop Mother Nature completely (and quite frankly don't want to). If critters of this sort make you uncomfortable or if you don't feel up to wiping away spider webs when needed, as an example, this site is probably not for you. If you arrive here and need assistance with any of the aforementioned 'critters', please just get a hold of us and let us know what the issue is and we will offer assistance.
We live here on property on the other side of a ridge line and try to be ready for immediate assistance but far enough away to offer guests space and peace and quiet.

Accès des voyageurs
Nearby is the pavilion 'Saloon' where you may use electricity, picnic tables, fireplace, charcoal grill, etc. HOWEVER this is a common use area, so we ask that you do NOT permanently occupy the pavilion with your things.
In non-freezing temps, we have two large water catchment barrels for use in hand-washing / showering (not a private bath house area, but 99% of the time guests are the only ones around the immediate area) or general use, but not for drinking.

Autres points à prendre en note
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Search the internet for Outdoors in the Smokies and utilize the Map/Written directions PDF file we have listed on the site. With this aid, you should be guided in without trouble.
Guests will use the address:
(but please see the map and written directions as stated!!!!)
462 Middle Creek Rd.
Cosby, TN 37722
but PLEASE make sure you utilize MIDDLE CREEK RD only. Some GPS systems like to bring folks "the back way" which is a DEAD END. If your GPS begins to bring you to LOWER BOGARD RD and then EUGENE RD, please stop, look at the GPS map, find Middle Creek Rd, backtrack, and proceed to 462 Middle Creek Rd.
Guests will then follow signs to Outdoors in the Smokies and at the top of the hill with metal farm gates (Welcome sign) take a LEFT and proceed to the Outdoor Event Area where you will see the Bear's Paw Primitive Cabin!

This is a NO PET facility, but we DO have dogs of our own. They roam the entire property and are friendly with guests. We have a three legged hound mix named Tina and two 11mo old Great Pyrenees pups named Bert & Ernie. They are still figuring life out, but they respond well to guests. Since we live in the country, we also get an occasional visit from unwanted critters such as Black Bears (very uncommon), Raccoons, Fox, and neighbor dogs... so PLEASE always keep food and trash picked up and secured!

FIREWOOD: Following the National Park policy, we have a 'No Outside Wood' policy as well. Accidental spread of wood boring insects and/or disease is no joke.
OPTIONS: You may bring in CERTIFIED kiln dried wood bundles (available at various stores/gas stations). Or, you may use our honor system $5/crate cut, split, dry and seasoned wood that is located very close to the cabin in 'Hammerin' Dan's Blacksmith shop' (small wood structure). Or, you may collect up any deadfall laying on the ground and burn that, free of charge.
There are two places you may burn a fire: Next to the Cabin in the fire pit, or in the Saloon (pavilion) in the fireplace. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
