Black Bear Lodge is a 3800+ square foot knotty pine paneled log cabin comprised of two floors and a loft. It was completed in the fall of 2008 and welcomed its first guests in December 2008. The home rests at an elevation of approximately 4000' and has unsurpassed and unobstructed majestic views of the mountain ranges and valleys. On a clear day you can see as far as forty miles to the north.

The main floor contains the spacious great room with soaring ceilings, a wall of windows that open to the wrap-around covered deck that overlooks the distant mountains. The great room includes a wood-burning stone fireplace, game table, and cozy sitting area for the wall-mounted 46" flat screen HDTV with a six speaker Blueray surround sound system, as well as an Ipod docking station that will allow you to play your personal music collection.

Just off the great room you will find a commodious gourmet kitchen with honed granite counter tops, abundant cabinet space, and top-of-the-line built-in stainless appliances, including a four burner gas cook top and oven and a large prep island with built-in microwave. The adjacent dining room was designed to seat eight comfortably around a large oak farm table and the kitchen island with bar stools provides seating for an additional four.

From the kitchen, you can enter the windowed laundry room with modern front-loading washer and dryer.

Imagine yourself resting comfortably in the softness of the cushions in the great room, your favorite book in hand, the soothing warmth from the crackling fireplace, the brilliant fall color or snow covered mountains out your window reminding you of another place and time, the quiet images brought on by the surround sound stereo, the smell of baking in the nearby kitchen. It doesn't get much better than this!

Also on the main floor is a powder room and a very large master bedroom with king bed, private en suite master bath, raised pine ceiling and direct access to the covered back deck.

The second floor loft provides another master bedroom suite with a log frame queen bed nestled under twin skylights in the pine-paneled vaulted ceiling, with a very private en suite master bath containing a separate glass-enclosed stall shower and a raised Kohler Airjet soaking tub with 110 air jets to soothe both body and mind.

The lower level has voluminous 9 ½ foot ceilings and contains an additional spacious and beautifully-appointed country chic master bedroom with a queen bed and comfortable sitting area. A fourth bedroom for the kids includes a Foosball table and two sets of bunk beds, one with two twins, and the other with a twin on top, double on the bottom and there is even a trundle that pulls out with one more twin and a large master-style bathroom with double vanity and glass-enclosed tub/shower.

An enormous, deluxe recreation room with a Minnesota Fats pool table, a 52" flat screen HDTV is great for movies and sports and is adjacent to a private covered deck with hot tub overlooking the distant mountains. Who could ask for more in a North Carolina mountain retreat?

Each of the cabins' bathrooms has a granite vanity top with two sinks and rustic cross-handled faucet sets and antique barnwood-framed mirror above. Each also has an enclosed toilet room for the ultimate in comfort and privacy.

The cabins' ample heating and air conditioning systems have three separate zones, each with its own thermostat, so that each living area can be regulated to achieve the desired climate for your personal comfort.

The floors of the cabin are made of rustic wide-plank knotty yellow pine that have been carefully stained and oiled to remind you of days long gone when mountain homes were crafted entirely by hand from available materials. In keeping with this spirit of self-sufficiency the mantel over the fireplace, the sofa table in the great room, the serving shelf in the dining room and the small shelf in the lower hallway all were hand-crafted by a local artisan from a tall, regal cherry tree that was felled to make room for the cabin.

Black Bear Lodge has paved access until approximately the last two miles, which alternate between pavement and gravel.

Reviews: What an amazing week. We vacationed with our 2 children at Black Bear Lodge and could not have been happier. Our only disappointment was that we did not book the cabin for 2 weeks. Every detail was impeccable...furnishings, linens, kitchen amenities, location. But the best part was the view. We had our breath taken away when we saw it upon our arrival.

This home was amazing. The long ride up was so worth it to have the gorgeous Mountain views and privacy. Plenty of room for a large family group. Rental company was very easy to deal with as well!

We spent most of our waking hours on the deck gazing at the mountains. When inside, we kept stumbling across unique decorative touches---in a thoughtfully stocked home. This is a treasure of a property to rent--we will be back!
