My place is 45 minutes from Glasgow and 20 minutes from Lanark, where family-friendly activities include a visit to 'New Lanark' and the Clyde falls. There is public transport to Douglas village, Lanark , and Hamilton; from these latter two bus or train take one to the night-life in Glasgow. You’ll love my place because of the peace and the bohemian atmosphere. My place is good for walks in the valley park, for couples, cyclists, business travellers, and families with one child.

Le logement

My home is one of a group of former farm worker's cottages, part of an old 'home farm' whose solid cottages are now let for housing.
The guestroom has a double-bed, to which I am happy to add a small floor-mattress for any children up to the age of twelve for free.
Breakfast can be served to you in the privacy of your room, or in the kitchen downstairs.
Downstairs is a bathroom with shower unit, while upstairs there is one with a bathtub.
Your room looks out over what used to be a busy farmyard, but the farm is no longer operating.
Parts of it are however let to local farmers, so that at specific times of the year one partakes of the seasonal background of cattle or sheep making their music.
My cottage has a garden allotment, where I grow fruit, vegetables and a variety of herbs and flowers. I make wine and preserves, and will be delighted to create special dinners including organically grown produce for guests who are interested.
This location is situated near the main bicycle route North to South, and cyclists may therefore find it particularly convenient.
This location has historic links to the Covenanters, the Cameronians, and the Black Douglases, whose lands this area includes, and of whose ruined 'Castle Dangerous' only part of one tower can still be seen in the valley park of the Douglas Vale; a recreational outdoor park including the Douglas Water, which is the name of the local river; a string of fair-sized ponds stocked with ducks and swans; and, at the eastern end, river meadows pasturing Highland cattle during much of the year.
The village of Douglas contains the ancient sanctuary of St. Bride, a part ruined church sited in a lovely old graveyard, containing in its intact parts the mausoleum of the above-mentioned noble family.
In the nearby (ca. five miles) village of Coalburn there is a well-appointed swimming pool with leisure suite and sauna.
The nearby old market town of Lanark in the beautiful Clyde valley gives access to the Museum of New Lanark, an industrial model village and works, and walks to the Clyde falls, impressive when there has been some rainfall and the river is in spate.

Accès des voyageurs

Our Guest(s) will be conducted to their upstairs room, where they can refresh themselves in the adjoining bathroom, and rest, if they so wish.
An old stone cottage with massive walls, this upstairs location is often the best part of the house for a mobile phone connection.
In the winter, guests may be invited, if appropriate, to relax in the living room with the extra warmth of a wood-burning stove.
I would like to remind people who are acclimatised to centrally heated urban living, that they may find it hard to become adapted to being out here in the cold season. Therefore it is a good idea to take extra layers of warm or woollen clothing along, as well as waterproofs and wellies.
Seasoned Scotland travellers will be accustomed also to provide themselves with midge repellent for the warm season; when the indoors will ultimately provide a safe refuge. With this qualification, my back-door patio offers a pleasant outdoor-space during the summer for relaxation, with a view of garden and surrounding strip of woodland.

Bon séjour chez Eilidh mais un peu petit pour 2 personnes. Très bon petit-déjeuner

Réponse de Eilidh :
My response is already contained in my review, but I will explain: I could foresee a slight problem when two young men booked one double bed - perhaps it was a communication problem. I would like to stress that my listing is accurate with regard to the issue in question - one room with one double-bed. I can put up a small mattress free of extra charge for children under twelve years of age. I hope that has clarified things a bit!

Eilidh was very friendly and helped me drying out my cycling clothes after a long day out in the rain. There was space to store my bicycle safely inside the house The breakfast was great and was a great way to start out the day.

Eilidh's place is just as she writes.... welcoming and warm.... as is the host herself. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Eilidh.
