Although I hate writing negative reviews, I feel that I have to do this time. I have stayed in more than 200 different places around the world and I can say that this is definitely the worst one. Where do I start: - the listing is inaccurate, the photo is not the actual accommodation - the is no wifi, although the listing includes it - when asking the hosts about the non existent wifi they blamed it on the weather, while other guest (returning) admitted that it had never worked - the house according to the host is basic. In reality it is horrible: the bed is extremely uncomfortable, the water is barely coming from the taps and the towels have disgusting marks on them - the house is next to the common area where other guest drink and sing loudly well past midnight - some guest staying in the fales are like homeless, pissing in the sand seems to be ok for them -as for the food, its ok but barely enough especially if you consider that some guest living in the fales for months and this their only meal of the day Overall 145 AUD for this is a daylight robbery, consider yourself warned!!!

Thank you Steve for your review. Your comments is hard for me to respond, because it is the first time, we received a` negative feedback from a guest of Matareva. I want to apologise for not meeting your expectations, in some of the areas you have mentioned. We are a beach fale provider, not a 5 star hotel or resort, and our prices is worth and very cheap compared to other beach fales in Samoa. Let me start with our listing on AIRBNB, we did not put any false information on our listing, we accomodate many guests from AIRBNB and you are the first one, who complained about us, the uncomfortable beds and unclean towels, this is something that we always checked before the guests arrived and its our first priority to give our guests the best to make them feel comfortable, so its our mistake if we missed out on that. The wifi issue also becomes our problem with the digicel company, we report the problem many times, and still no change has been made, you also told me that it was ok, dont worry, but I came twice looking for you to offer you our paid office wifi from blusky, that most of our guests used, but could not get hold of you, because you always went out during the day after breakfast, you only came back at dinner time. Guests shouting and singing at the bar past midnight, I agree with you, it only happens twice, so we put a stop to it, because sometimes its out of our control when people get drunk. I also agree with you about the water issue in your cabin, we had a talked with your partner, and letting her know that we are working on fixing the problem and find out what caused the slowing down of water, and then refer her to the outside showers which is OK as always. Regarding our food, Matareva offered the best food on the island, barely enough, thats not true, we are the only beach fales who provides buffet breakfast and dinners with many choices, and the guests get to fill their plates 2 to 3 times with free dessert, and we are so proud of it, thats why most of our guests returned to stay with us before heading back to their home countries. If you read through our previous reviews you will find out. Lastly, you were a bit harsh when you refer to other guests as homeless, we treated all our guests equally, and they were not just guests, but everyone is part of our family and our community, we w`ere also not aware of any guests pissing in the sand next to their fales, only a drunk person would do something like that, but thank you for saying that, we will take it into account and looked out for people like that. Therefore, we are sad that you did not like your 3 days with us, and I feel that you did not have enough time to experienced the luxury of sleeping in a beach fale and listen to the waves at night, talking with us and other guests, maybe it was really a bad timing for you to come at Matareva, but hopefully you will find what you have expected in all the other places you will be going. Kind Regards Matareva Team

Mat areva is a village community-owned beach fales, run and managed by Togialelei Tavita’s family, one of the village chiefs. The family and the chiefs are working together to create job opportunities for the village youths, who are being trained in hospitality.
